Ben Templesmith. Thanks to Moviepoopshoot for the images.

  • MTV confirms that the US version of the Donnie Darko’s director’s cut DVD (an excellent version of the film, we gotta say), hits the streets on February
15th. Kevin appears in the new feature length commentary with director Richard Kelly through the entire film with comments and questions from View Askew
    fans, just like you!
  • Wanna catch up with Stroke 9, the band who did the single from the J&SBSB soundtrack (”Kick Some Ass”)? The Des Moines Register has
info on a gig coming up this Friday (tomorrow).
  • The Blog at BoingBoing posted a creation at
    Beancounters that is a
parody script posing the question “What if Clerks had been written by the staff at BoingBoing?”.
  • And, winding up the day, Kevin’s the subject of this edition of online comic FanBoyRadio.
Obviously, a big fan there. Wouldn’t it be a shock if Kev called the dude’s show sometime now? Anyway, fun stuff. See ya later.

More Jay & Bob When The 90’s Return…

January 10th @ 7:59 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • VH-1’s “I LOVE THE 90′S : Part Deux” premieres next Monday, January 17th and continues all week until Friday th 21st. And yes, you guessed it, two of
your favorite stoners will be back again for some of the fun. Starting Monday, two new episodes/years will premiere every night at 9 and 10. Monday at
9pm will be I LOVE 1990, followed by I LOVE 1991 at 10pm. Then Tuesday at 9pm I LOVE 1992 will air followed at 10pm by I LOVE 1993. And so on.

This time around, each year will have Jay and Silent Bob regaling us with “Guys We’d Go Gay For”. Just like last time, the J&SB segment will air either
just before or just after a commercial break, usually around the middle of the hour. Also, there’s of course a CLERKS segment in “I LOVE 1994”, and
a MALLRATS piece in “I LOVE 1995”. Tune in or set your Tivos, and enjoy! And by the way, if you’re not watching Fox’s “24” this year, you’re missing
out, as the initial two hours rocked the house last night, with two more hours on the way. Nice to see some of the best on TV returning (but what did they
DO to you, poor Alias?).

We’ll likely give you a reminder and chat a bit about this stuff after it airs. Thanks to VH-1 for the inside info!

Kevin’s 3 Episode Degrassi Schedule Info…

January 10th @ 7:59 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Ming

  • Ah yes, it’s a wonderful way to start off 2005 with news from Kevin on the airdates of his first major television guest appearance as himself — The multi-episode arc on Degrassi. This post features the first hints of what to expect in each of the three episodes, the first we’ve seen this info anywhere. Of course, this is only GOOD news to those of you in Canada, or nearby enough to pick up CTV, but here ya go, from Kevin, via the board:
CTV has locked in the air dates of my three episode “Degrassi” stretch. They are as follows…

Monday, January 31st: Episode 420

I meet Caitlin Ryan and she introduces me to her alma mater, Degrassi Community School.

Monday, February 7th: Episode 421

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes start shooting “Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh?” at the shuttered-for-summer Degrassi. Kevin and Caitlin get a little too up close and personal. Alanis Morissette cameos.

Monday, February 14th: Episode 422

Ninjas! Ninjas! Ninjas! And Jen Schwalbach cameos!

We imagine the episodes will show up Stateside on Noggin in a few months, or maybe not even until this summer. The schedule for that is yet to be learned. However, once we know, you’ll know. Until then, we’re sure some of the more skillful downloaders of you might be able to figure out a way to see the shows as they air on CTV. And we’re hoping to have some images and coverage here as well. Stick around. We got ya covered.

  • Clerks X has been named the #15 DVD OF ALL TIME (yes, ALL TIME!!!) by UGO:
What It’s About:

Generation X looked at Clerks as it saw itself, but weirder. Kevin Smith’s View Askew juggernaut began with this self-financed black and white indie flick that plainly displayed that mediocre filmmaking skills can be ignored if the characters are truly engaging. Dante and Randall, the titular clerks, are so wonderfully entertaining that there isn’t a whole lot of plot to get in the way of their engaging-ness. Essentially a series of unusual conversations, Clerks is just pure entertainment and Smith’s passion for the material gives it a heart that more polished films couldn’t find in a cardiac surgery theater.

Why We Like It:

The Clerks 10th Anniversary Edition doesn’t punish you for having gotten a Clerks DVD before, nor does it make you hang onto that old one for completion’s sake. The near-legendary drunken commentary from the first release is preserved here as a part of Clerks history, as is the “lost scene,” and the music video and theatrical trailers. Additionally, an entirely different cut of the film comes on the second disc with an entirely new commentary, as now the cast and crew look back on the film with a new perspective. The third disc, however, is enough for any Kevin Smith fan to lay down cash on the barrel head for this set. From the rarely (if ever) seen Mae Day documentary from his film school days to journals, question and answer session and documentary material on the film, the set is a true document of this little piece of film history. This set is definitive. We only wish all our favorite films were subjected to a set this comprehensive.

Quick Hit:

Play this DVD twice a week and hold a semester-long class on Clerks. Graduate with a B.A. in the Askewniverse and indie film.

See it, and the rest of the list, at UGO.

  • The Love channel is part of the Encore/Starz package, thus Chasing Amy will indeed air there tomorrow night, uncut and commercial free.
As if there’s any other way to watch that classic!

  • Dogma alum Alan Rickman will join the cast of the feature film adaptation of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, based on the popular
series of novels by Douglas Adams. He’ll appear in voice only, as the character of Marvin, the paranoid android. Those of you from our generation may
remember playing the Infocom, Commodore 64 game of the same name. Great stuff, and the film is something we’re looking forward to seeing. Details
    HERE.
  • Chasing Amy airs on satellite and digital cable’s “Love Stories” channel this Tuesday night, the 11th, at 10 PM. We believe this
channel airs stuff uncut, so perhaps you’ll spin by it when you’re channel surfing and stay put. One of the best.
  • Catch Mallrats movie poster artist Drew Struzan at the LA Comic Book and Sci Fi convention on February 13, 2005. Details and a full guest list are up at
the event’s official site as we speak. Bring your Mallrats SE DVDs and posters with ya!

  • And finally today, because who can’t get enough of cute little kids in Snoogans hats, another fan’s daughter in similar garb. All us
View Askew fans are starting to get growns up with families now! Catch ya next time…

  • In case we haven’t sent you this way before, the
Official Site for John Pierson’s “Reel Paradise”, which Kevin and Scott exec produced,
is now up. The film, which chronicles the running of what’s considered the most remote movie theater on the planet, is
slated to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this month.

  • In the December/January issue of Razor magazine, reviewer Richard Roeper writes about the “31 Films That Changed Cinema”. Clerks is given the
disctinction of number 26. Click the scan for a look. Interestingly, Gigli took #10 on the insert list, “10 Movies That Didn’t Change Cinema”. The fact
that the film is talked about so much still tells us that it HAS changed cinema articles, though. The entire piece is a great read, and well worth picking
up the ish to check out.
  • Aint It Cool gave us a nice plug for the new Evening 2 trailer. Nothing new that you didn’t already
read through us, but it’s always a fun stop if you want to see where Kevin got all that J&SBSB ammo for web talkbackers from.
  • And finally today, wanna see the list of all the flicks Kevin watched, and even more interestingly, the ones he DUG in 2004? The full scoop from the dude
himself is up at his WWWBoard. Later!

New Lee & Affleck Projects…

January 3rd @ 9:56 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Justin McGill

  • A new year always seems to be a good time for studios to break ground with announcements on new film projects. This first one is a Jason
Lee film that we reported just a small blurb on last summer.

“I Love Your Work” starring Jason Lee and directed by Adam Goldberg. Goldberg is most notable for his roles in Dazed and Confused and Mellish in
Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan, among others. Also includes talented folk like Giovani Ribisi, Vince Vaughn, Franke Potente (The Bourne Supremacy, Run
Lola Run), Christina Ricci, Joshua Jackson, Judy Green (who co-starred in “The Hebrew Hammer” with Goldberg), and Nicky Katt.

Hollywood Stock Exchange says:

“Adam Goldberg writes and directs the psychological drama I Love Your Work. Gray Evans is a movie star with a failing marriage who suffers a mental
breakdown and becomes obsessed with a young film student. Giovanni Ribisi, Joshua Jackson, Franka Potente, and Christina Ricci star in the indie film
co-produced by Cyan Pictures and Muse Productions.”

Also, from the success of the end result of “The Polar Express”, it seems Robert Zemeckis may be doing a second screen capture film. Jason Lee is
attached as voice talent, as well as a few other notables:

Three kids learn that a neighbor’s house is a living monster in the family CG-animated film Monster House. D.J. Harvard and his two friends Chowder and
Jenny find that the house is alive and in it beats an evil heart. None of the adults believe the kids, so it’s up to the three of them to figure out a way
to destroy the dwelling before innocent trick-or-treaters are devoured. Gil Zenan makes his directorial debut.

Sounds intrguing. And finally, an interesting team-up that makes that little Jersey Girl cameo look like it might have turned into a true-to-life business meeting:

Affrimative Action

Ben Affleck and Will Smith will buddy up in the action-comedy “Affirmative Action” set in New Orleans. When a black soldier goes A.W.O.L. after committing
a crime, a South Boston cop and a FBI agent who don’t share the same racial views are teamed to find him. Affirmative Action was written by Jeffrey Abrams
and is currently in development at Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Buena Vista will distribute the picture.

We’ll of course keep you informed on these projects as we hear more.
