“Thirty and under, profanity is credibility,†the filmmaker Kevin Smith has said; Smith’s movie Clerks originally got an NC-17 rating despite having no nudity, no sex, no violence – just naughty words. “It’s like,’ Hey, you’re speaking my language!’ “
