Kevin Breaks The “Zack & Miri” Silence…Sorta!

  • After his opening days blog for “Zack and Miri Make A Porno”, we thought Kevin might be checking in all of the time — As the shoot continued, we started to theorize that there might be a new strategy from Camp Askew this time around. What we love about this new blog from Kevin today is that he explains the silence, promises he’ll be back, but also lets us know very little about the flick’s plot (keeping with the “less is more” strategy this time around). We dig it. Here’s a snippet from Mr. Smith:

      Making Porno, Pt. 2: Climax

      It’s been a long time since the last update, I realize; over two months, to be precise. My apologies for that and the total lack of SModcast during that period. I was preoccupied. Rest assured, SModcast will return the moment the recording gear gets back to L.A.

      Around two in the morning Wednesday, we wrapped “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”. Poetically, it snowed right before we rolled for the last time… just after we’d laid a bunch of fake white stuff for an exterior shot at Zack’s job. It nicely summed up the uncooperative nature of the weather we’d grown accustomed to over the course of the production.

      Some folks have asked why I’ve been so stingy with the details on this flick, as opposed to flicks we’ve made in the past, during which I was blogging and posting pics galore. There’s no conspiracy behind it, really; I just wanna try something different this time. I want folks to discover the flick for themselves, instead of me jamming it down their throats. I’m also gonna try to keep from over-selling it with hyperbole and absolutes. I’ll let you guys apply those (good or bad) when the time comes. Just know that we had a problem-free, productive shoot in which everyone was firing on all cylinders and the result was THE FUNNIEST FUCKING MOVIE WE’VE EVER MADE!!!

      * ahem *

      No more hyperbole starting from this point on, I meant.

    For the full post, surf your butts on over to the Myspace Blog or the Silent Bob Speaks site. We can’t wait to hear Kev and Scott wax philosophical behind the SModcast mic’s once again, and welcome the return of both that and the most insightful blog on the web. Welcome back, Kevin.

    Take note, there’s also been some Z&M cast updates over at the IMDB – It looks like Zack’s full name is “Zack Brown”. More character names have also been revealed (Jeff=Deacon, Craig=Delaney), as well as some new supporting cast members. Mostly extras, but one we haven’t heard before — Gerry Bedknob also from “The 40 Year Old Virgin” is now listed. We’ll keep digging up what we can, but like the man says, this one’s going to be a little less present on the web than a few of the past flicks. But hey, that just makes our scooping job a little more fun and challenging, right?

March 14th @ 10:06 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Eric D Wilkinson

  • Hey, all you Jersey Askewers, listen up! Brian O’Halloran and Jason Mews will appearing at the “Monster Mania Con X” in Cherry Hill THIS WEEKEND! The guys will be meeting and greeting fans, as well as signing autographs. Brian’s there to promo the hilarious horror/comedy “Brutal Massacre: A Comedy”, and will also participate in a Q&A tomorrow (Saturday March 15) at 1 PM, along with the film’s producer and director. Fans can stop by the Anchor Bay booth for more info. As far as Mewes goes, no definitive promotional ties are listed, but this being a horror convention, you might want to get copies of “Feast”, “The Tripper” & “Scream 3” for him to sign. Jason will also be participating in a Q&A on Saturday March 15 at 7 PM in an event named “Got A Jay?”.

    Both these guys are incredibly gracious to their fans, and would love to meet you and talk shop, whether it be about their new projects or their View Askew family. If you’re in the area, stop by and meet these two View Askew icons, who have been with us from the very beginning with “Clerks”, and all the way through.

    Our thanks to our scooper, Eric Wilkinson, a local Jersey filmmaker and View Askew fan, who will be attending the show to promote his film “Jerome Bixby’s The Man From Earth”. His flick now coincidentally shares the same distributor as Brian’s new movie, the great Anchor Bay. Drop on by the Anchor Bay booth for more information, and tell them News Askew sent ya.
