Jason Mewes, better known to most as Jay to Kevin Smith’s Silent Bob, is teaming up with Twilight sensation Kristen Stewart for a prison comedy. And if that’s not weird enough, Kristen Stewart will play a dude!

We actually first hard about this project back in November. Jason Mewes toplines the film while Stewart co-stars with fellow Twilighter Nikki Reed. Both undergo gender transformation for their roles. It’s directed by Kristen Stewart’s mother Jules, which I guess explains how they landed one of the hottest commodities in Hollywood to show up for it. The update here is that this isn’t just some crazed fantasy after all, it’s really happening.

Jason Mewes stopped by Moviehole today and talked to them about the movie, being called K11. He says their start date in January slipped, but they’re shooting in August or September. This may have something to do with Stewart’s commitment to the Twilight sequel New Moon which is due out in November and should by this time, be heavy into production if they plan to have it ready by fall 09.

As for Mewes, it’s always great to see him getting more parts outside of Smith’s View Askew universe. With his willingness to go full testicle for a role, he’s the perfect choice for any prison shower scene. Click over to MH for more on Jason’s role in K11.

2. Shannon Hamilton from Mallrats

With a shitty attitude, a pretty boy mug and a propensity for combining backdoor sex with New Kids on the Block lyrics, there are few douches that can touch Shannon Hamilton. Played by Ben Affleck — no stranger to douchebaggery himself during his J-Lo phase — Shannon has the lofty position of being a manager of an upscale men’s clothing boutique in a Jersey outlet mall. Arrogant, smarmy and trying desperately to force overpriced slacks on people, Shannon is a classic big screen tit, the kind of douche who’d stoop to almost any level to try and screw your girlfriend in an uncomfortable place — and no, we ain’t talking about the back of a Volkswagen.

Dirty talk: Silent Bob gets vocal at Mershon

Kevin Smith sure knows how to make the most of something small. In his first foray as a director with 1994’s “Clerks,” he cobbled together a movie using a shoestring budget and his workplace as its scenery. From this humble start, Smith crafted an incredibly successful writing/directing career, most recently bearing last October’s “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.” As an actor, Smith first took the simple mime-like role of Silent Bob in “Clerks” with little to no dialogue. Since then, he’s nailed down supporting parts in “Daredevil”, “Live Free or Die Hard”, “Southland Tales” and TV’s “Law & Order”. As a speaker, Smith was given a room of enthusiastic OSU students in Mershon Auditorium last Thursday. By the end of the night, he had managed to turn out all kinds of embarrassing stories from both audience members and himself, creating enormous and often uncomfortable laughter for the rest of the room in the process.

For the uninitiated, Smith’s on-stage appearances are anecdotal stand-up comedy wrapped in a guise of an open-ended Q&A with the crowd. Two mics are typically set up in-between aisles of seats, and Smith switches between fielding questions from the two, answering anything anyone throws at him. Three DVDs of these Q&A sessions have been released so far (the most recent is “Kevin Smith: Sold Out – A Threevening with Kevin Smith”), and these shows tend to get very profane and very revealing very fast.

As soon as Smith took the stage soon after 8 PM, he began the evening with a self-aware “Good morning” (apparently, his week had been pretty grueling). He then immediately took notice of the ASL Interpreter standing on the side of the stage and began asking her to sign inappropriate things, quickly creating one of the running jokes of the night. The first question Smith fielded was a good indicator of what kind of material he was best at discussing. An audience member asked a question about a character’s identity in a “Battlestar Galactica” storyline. Smith took on the question entirely seriously, and answered it in detail.

Things soon began to grow less docile. One inquiring participant spilled his guts to Smith about recently breaking up with his fiancée, with the purchase of a rice cooker apparently serving as a key point of contention in their relationship. Another asked a question and then handed Smith a map to his dorm, offering Smith to get high with him (the director was intrigued by this offer). Somebody else told a story about walking in on his deeply religious father smoking a joint, eating 20 White Castle hamburgers and watching Smith’s “Dogma” simultaneously–a story he had never told anyone before. A fourth guy somehow ended up revealing that he once kissed the male student that asked the original question about “Battlestar Galactica.” All of these odd details of the students coming out and then elaborated provided much material for Smith to work with through the evening.

However, Smith was certainly more than willing to share a lot about himself as well. In unnerving detail, he told stories about his current sex life (it’s going pretty well), one of his earliest sexual experiences (involving his partner being disgusted by his body’s actions), how he recently broke a toilet in an L.A. video store (he was extremely overweight at the time), how many times he has seen actor Jason Mewes’ genitalia (“more [times] than [his] own”) and how his break-up with actress Joey Lauren Adams went (she wanted to date Vince Vaughn instead). It should also be noted that he leapt into renditions of the “Family Ties” theme song and A-Ha’s ’80s hit “Take on Me” at varying points.

In terms of news regarding his upcoming projects, Smith didn’t offer any info that a die-hard fan would have not heard before. The two projects he is currently working on are “Red State” (a horror movie about ultra-conservatives) and “Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers” (a big-budget sci-fi movie). He’s also deep into a “Batman” mini-series for DC Comics (a snippet of a day in the life of Smith: “I wake up, get really fuckin’ baked and write “Batman comics”.). Issue #2 is currently on the racks, and the series will be completely published within the next month or two.

When all was done, the Smith experience was both incredibly profane and incredibly funny. Smith’s literal “tell all” approach to comedy/Q&As takes a lot of moxie, and there’s some kind of intangible comfort to be found in a major Hollywood player getting on-stage to spill his guts, and then leaving two-and-a-half hours later as someone everyone knows a little too intimately.

– Miri’s screen-used wristwatch, from “Zack & Miri” worn by the lovely Elizabeth Banks – $81 and this round’s most unique item.

– Deacon’s tripod from “Zack & Miri”, also a bargain currently at $46.

Finally, a stylish and RARE “Bean ‘N Gone” hoodie offered only to “Zack & Miri” cast and crew, currenting trading at a big $202.50 (so this one’s quite coveted).

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO

The title was ZACK AND MIRI in the copy I bought at Target – but on AMAZON they seem to have the full title. Or is that an outdated graphic? I don’t know, but god damn this is a funny movie. Though upon reflection of the Blu Ray… I found myself wondering… Is it just me, or does the film feel awfully short. I never really look at running times on films. I just don’t obsess on that sort of thing, but I really wanted a longer film here. I think it is that I loved these characters and wanted to spend more time with them. Kevin done good.

CLERKS II (Blu Ray)

I know most people tend to feel CHASING AMY is Kevin’s best film, but honestly… I love CLERKS II. It is just fucking great. Rosario? OHMYGOD! She’s just the girl you must love. And PILLOW PANTS? Genius.

Behind the stage, indie-movie icon Kevin Smith, a.k.a. the Most Famous Fanboy in the World, parks himself in front of a closed-circuit TV, a happy grin on his bearded mug. “You have to understand, I’ve been waiting for this moment for years,” says Smith. “This is it, man. This is the pinnacle. You have no idea how f–ing pumped I am.”

First up, this flash-based game is NOT safe for work, visually and especially with the audio, but it sure is fun. It’s a stick-figure sex game based on the drawings from the U.S. poster for the film. You just gotta go give it a try.

In the press, following in the footsteps of the U.S. battle against censorship, The Age runs a nice article that summarizes the battle to get the film out intact stateside, though it didn’t face any new challenges for cuts in Australia. We believe these are quotes are from a new interview since they’re listed as chatting with AAP. The info is similar to what we’ve seen before, but it’s always nice to see a new interview and new quotes, like this one:

“…Just before filming was set to begin, Rogen was coming off worldwide promotional trips for Knocked Up and Superbad.

“Seth wrote me an email that said ‘I always wanted to work with you, I don’t want to work with you under these circumstances where I’m exhausted. I just want to sit on my couch, play video games and get high for three months’,” Smith chuckled.

“I was like ‘Can’t argue with that’.”

He really holds his own against her (Elizabeth Banks as Miri) and drama is her forte, that’s for sure. You buy that relationship. They did a fantastic job.

So it was kind of weird being here, yes the scale was bigger, but when you’re on set it’s almost like being on set of Clerks. So even though the scale grows and you walk around and you see the trucks, you’re staying at nice hotels, when you get to set it always feels like you’re going back to the same set. So yes it feels bigger but no it doesn’t, if that’s an answer.

Smith used family loans and leveraged his income to help pay for the black & white movie, which he shot in and around the shop he already worked as a perfect free location.

The Warning: If you run up a huge debt, the closest you’ll get to “blockbuster” status is working there to pay it off.
