Graphitti Designs has made travel safe, fashionable and holy again with the “Buddy Christ” dash-board statue, inspired by Kevin Smith’s film Dogma. In the flick, the Catholic Church rolled out a grinning, winking, “thumbs up!” Jesus as part of its “Catholicism Wow!” program aimed at modernizing the Church. Graphitti, in turn, has rolled out a five-inch version of its own.

So far, its skyrocketing sales are keeping the moneychangers in the temple happy. “We’re doing loaves-and-fishes numbers with it,” says Smith, a devout Catholic. Smith, however, has yet to convert. “I have an authentic, non-‘Buddy’ Jesus in my car,” he says. “But I’m getting ready to swap him out for one of these.”
