- Chris Rock appears in the September Playboy magazine in an extended interview. The article mostly includes thoughts on his career and his new HBO special. After about 5 pages of the article, it goes into talking about “Dogma”. Here’s atranscript:
Rock: Kevin’s other movies, Clerks and Chasing Amy, just spoke to me.
Playboy: What was it like working with Smith?
Rock: Kevn holds the most intense rehearsals. When you get to the set, your lines and blocking have to be second nature. You’re prepared. You’re in shape. It takes hours-morning till night. I wanted to do it, especially since I’m not an actor like the other people in the movie: Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, Linda Fiorentino, Alan Rickman, Salma Hayek. I need the extra work and it was like free acting school. It’s definitely the best work I’ve done. It broke me out of all my movies.
- Movie buzz site extraordinaire Dark Horizons posted links to the trailer for Jason Lee’s next flick, “Mumford”, which isdue in theaters this fall. - SILENT BOB gets some kudos in an article entitled “Here Today, Goon Tomorrow” in the UK’s Total Film Magazine. We supposeyou can figure out the subject matter for yourself…
Mallrats
Granted, Jay is not really supervillain material. His personality, based on a lifetime’s intake of Ice Cube lyrics and porn movies, doesn’t quite give him the sophistication required for the job. Still, Silent Bob,(Kevin Smith), the muscle of Jay’s drug-dealing operation, is the henchman we’d all dream of owning. He doesn’t answer back, he gets Jay out of scrapes with astonishing gadget wielding panache, and whenhe does bother to speak, he comes through with gobbets of Yoda-esque wisdom. And, should anyonedare give you or your homies shit, he’ll bitch-slap their sorry ass, Wolvie-berserk style.
- Finally for this lovely Tuesday evening…Has everyone taken notice to the amazing run that The Blair Witch Project is going on in theaters? Wow! It’ll be interesting to see what happens with a larger release, as well as the inevitable imitations but, like Clerks, we think this film is going to forever be a milestone in Independent filmmaking history. Onthat note, The Clerks Witch Project comes to us. “Two convenience store workers disappear in the woods around New Jersey. A year later their footage is found”. Wonder ifthat guy from the alternate Clerks ending had anything to do with this?
