- Our scooper was surfing the web and located a page known as L.O.A.F.S. (Library Of Annotated Film Schools)…a database of surveys taken by film students to help guide future film students choose their school. While reading opinions on the Vancouver Film School (which Kevin briefly attended), he spotted the following comments:
The reason I went to this school was largely because the infamous director of “Clerks”, Kevin Smith went there. The school advertises the success of this film when Kevin in fact dropped out of the program after 3 months, and took his money that he got back and used it to make his film. The school out and out lied about him. He is far and away the most successful guy that ever went there, and there is nothing up on the walls or anything ever mentioned about him. I think seriously the school spends more money recruiting thru ads in major mags then it does on the educational quality of the program. They are taking the money they didn’t use for our class and spending it on a new building we’ll never see. It’s about time this school was investigated for false advertising, poor standards, and bad administration. I don’t see how this circus could go on much longer. Go somewhere else guys and ignore the expensive ads that former students are paying for. I wonder if Kevin knows they’re using his name…
Well, it is kind of unfortunate that schools hafta throw names around like that, but it’s going to happen and there’s not really much than can be done about it. Anyone that chooses a school solely on the basis of others who attended it needs to re-evaluate their choice, though. Go to a film school, or ANY school for that matter, because it suits your needs, not because someone famous went there.
