“Zack & Miri” Production Site: Now LIVE!

January 21st @ 10:00 am | 1 Comment » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • News Askew is proud to present the beginnings of the biggest “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” resource on the web – Our production subsection, dedicated 100% to the new film from Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier, starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks.

This time ’round, we’re doing something a bit different. As this is our first production site under our new database system, we’re using that very database to drive BOTH sites. So, while you’ll still see all the latest news on the front page and in our RSS feed, folks looking to track ONLY the latest news on “Zack and Miri Make A Porno” will get it all at the production site. You won’t, however, need to check BOTH sites to get the latest news. That would just be making things tough on you.

As before, we will offer a few exclusive features only available at the production site. We’ve already got an up to date cast list, which will change as each confirmed member is announced. We’ll also be collecting a nice set of links and scans taking you to all the press on the film, from production through release and beyond. Finally, as muiltimedia offerings start to appear (photos, videos, ads, tv appearances, etc), those will also be archived in one simple place.

While we’re just getting underway, take a moment to pop over to our “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” production site – As always, we promise the most complete, one stop location for all the news on the new movie. Miss a previous production site? Our Dogma, J&SBSB, Jersey Girl, and Clerks II sites are still around for historical purposes.

The First Post-“Zack & Miri” Production Start SModcast!

  • Special guest Jason Mewes joins Kevin for a brand new SModcast this morning. After taking a week off to get started on the production of “Zack & Miri Make a Porno”, we’re happy to present the first episode of the show since the cameras have started to roll on Smith’s 8th film. Appropriate, we say, given that Mr. Mewes will indeed be playing a part in said movie. The title, actually, refers to a slight lisp that Mewes has picked up due to recent oral surgery. His character, Lester, will now have a slight lisp in “Zack and Miri” as well. Here’s the logline:

      SModcast 44: Thuffering Thucotash –

In which one of our heroes is accompanied by a special guest making his triumphant return with tales of orthodontia, long distance love, the bare necessities, cultural understanding, and talk of “Zack and Miri”. Plus, a quiz!

Three days were shot last week (Wednesday thru Friday) and they’re back to work today. So far, Mewes has appeared in just one shot. An early shot of the film took place at the historic Monroeville Mall, a spot we have visited many times. This is the mall where the original “Dawn of the Dead” was filmed. We hear they drew quite a crowd inside the mall. Anyone catch it?

Day two featured Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks in a car, and actually had them fighting snowfall – Welcome to Pittsburgh, PA. And yes, as always, Kevin is already having some footage cut together to look at (though with the shoot NOT being in Los Angeles this time, it’ll be a bit tougher).

It’s looking like SModcast will be your best way to hear the latest stories from the set as shooting continues on. If you’re a fan of the “Zack & Miri” production, this will be the way to keep up. For example, we heard there are actually GUNS used as props in the film. Guns, you say? Interesting, no? Once the new episode has run its course over at QSE, we’ll also archive the interesting bits at our new production site.

You can get the ‘SMod at one place, and one place only — That’s Quick Stop Entertainment, View Askew’s exclusive portal to everything that’s entertainment on the web. The MP3 file is totally free for your downloading and listening pleasure. Haven’t picked up an episode yet? Check out our next story and see why you SHOULD be listening…

  • We’re quite proud of Brian Lynch, best known for writing-directing the View Askew rarity “Big Helium Dog” — His latest stint has him running the “show” for Angel’s new season in comic book form, as the writer of the books. Three episodes/issues have now hit the stands, and we gotta tell you, if you’re a Buffy/Angel fan and you’re missing these, shame on you. Not only are they fantastic, but Mr. Lynch’s involvement alone should have piqued your interest by now. To learn more, check out a recent interview which Aint It Cool held with the man. The interview not only covers Angel, but a TON of his other projects, including “Everybody’s Dead”, a project we’ve been talking about almost as long as this site has existed.
  • And finally today, “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” is listed in a new Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article regarding films now shooting (or shooting soon) in and around the Pittsburgh, PA area. Sounds like the city is becoming a bit more popular as an economical option to shoot in. See? View Askew Productions knows what they’re doing! Catch ya next time…

      F. Scott Fitzgerald famously wrote that there are no second acts in American lives. Then again, Fitzgerald probably never met anyone quite like Ben Affleck.

  • Enjoy the hype that is “Cloverfield” this weekend, folks — The flick does deliver as expected, and presents a unique new look at the monster genre. Congrats to JJ and his crew on what’s sure to be a successful weekend.

  • Via a new board post, Kevin answers/confirms the creation of a new production company for each of the View Askew films. It concentrates all liability and financial aspects for the duration of the shoot. Once the movie is done, the company is disolved [Board poster “Roger”]. Kevin responds:

Roger’s right. Each flick we’ve done from “Mallrats” on has been incorporated under a different title.

The production company of “Mallrats” was Unstable Molecules.

The production company of “Amy” was Askew Too.

      “Dogma” was Plenary Indulgence.

The “Clerks” cartoon was Toon Askew.

      “Strike Back” was Too Askew.

      “Jersey Girl” was New Askew.

“Clerks II” was Askew Part Deux.

  • Maxim Magazine runs a monthly feature where they list cool stuff happening in the next 3, 6, and 9 months. While a release date has yet to be set, they’ve got “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” in their items to watch for in 9 months column. That puts us around a late Fall release, which is what we’re speculating anyway. Good on ya, Maxim, for seeing a good thing coming and letting your readers know about it. Check out the scan above or check your February issue for the “Get Psyched For” section.
  • And more today about…what else…Zack & Miri! Video ETA lists the film as one of their “Best Movies of 2008 That You Don’t Know About Yet” (despite the fact we’ve known about this one for quite a while now, natch):

Zack & Miri Make a Porno

This movie actually begins filming on Wednesday, so how can we already put it on our sleeper list? Well, look at that title. Oh yeah, it also stars Golden Boy Seth Rogen and is the next movie from cult filmmaker Kevin Smith. Smith is known these days to cut his movies together while filming, so the film should be ready to come out by fourth quarter. The success or failure of The Pineapple Express will dictate whether they push it out this year to strike while the proverbial iron is hot or delay it until enough time has passed. October.

Labine Joins “Porno” Cast…

  • Breaking news just in! The hilarious Tyler Labine, who steals scenes on the CW’s “Reaper”, confirms via a posting on the Reaper Facebook page today, he’s been offered and accepted a role in “Zack & Miri Make a Porno”. Labine shoots in February. This hot on the heels of the news from Kevin that tells us there will be SIX new actors and actresses revealed in the trades tomorrow or Tuesday. We’re guessing that Labine’s one of them. We’ll of course have the latest casting news right here, as soon as it breaks.

With Labine already joining the two stellar leads, the film’s already shaping up to be one of the best comedic cast that Kevin’s ever put together. We can’t wait for the rest.

  • JoBlo also reports that striking WGA writers will be allowed to work for the Weinstein Company’s films due to a recently struck deal. Good deal for them, for certain — While the film industry hasn’t quite yet felt the sting of the strike, it will be in the near future.
  • In other JoBlo news, Episode #142 of their “The Bottom Shelf” column, dedicated to DVDs you may have missed, cites both “Vulgar” and “Now You Know” as two discs worth checking out.
  • We’re told that you’ll find a Mallrats poster in the background of Episode #42 of Black 20’s “net_work” web program. The episode is titled “Rockin’ Eve” — The show’s pretty amusing, to boot. Each segment runs just 5 minutes and makes for a quick dose of the funny when ya need it.
  • Finally today, wanna OWN a flying car? Only on eBay…Seems you can truly get ANYTHING there these days. Have a weekend!
