Ghigliotti, London To Appear At FXI International

December 22nd @ 3:31 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Attention, Florida! The FXI International show, taking place in Orlando from Jan 25 to Jan 27, 2008 has a very impressive guest list this year, including two View Askew vets – Marilyn Ghigliotti (“Clerks”) and Jeremy London (“Mallrats”). A complete guest list is available. This show is different from many cons, as they use a virtual ticketing system, sort of like a “FastPass” type deal, so you don’t have to wait in long lines to get your autographs. Pretty nifty.

We’re sure that Marilyn and Jeremy would love to meet some of their View Askew fans and sign some stuff for you. Jason Mewes was scheduled for this at one point, but unfortunately had to cancel. We also heard rumblings of a possible Brian O’Halloran appearance, but that’s still up in the air. For a fan of the Askewniverse though, this is certainly a great chance to meet two icons from the first two flicks, and a spectacular chance to get that DVD or poster signed.

Speaking of Marilyn, her new horror film “Dead and Gone” is going through the contract stage, and set to hit video sometime in 2008. We’ll let you know when it’s available.

  • So we now know the leads…But what other faces are in store for “Zack and Miri Make A Porno”? Kevin confirmed that show regular, the very funny comedian Jim Norton will have a speaking role in the flick. Norton’s a funny, raunchy dude, so we’re expecting a cool cameo, at the very least. We’ll keep you posted, of course, on all the breaking casting news with the film over the next few weeks.
  • And speaking of those leads, some silly stuff going on at the IMDB — The page for “Zack and Miri Make A Porno” has happily been title-corrected, but now they’ve got the leads mis-matched. Rest assured, Zack remains Seth Rogen, this isn’t some wacky experiment.
  • We’re all for the great films of View Askew on the big screen. So, if you’re in the Missouri area, check out the “Moolah Clerksfest”. Next Thursday, November 29th, they’ll be showing Clerks and Clerks II, along with contests and giveaways. Event proceeds will subsidize the purchase of land for a new hostel in St. Louis. Sounds like something well worth attending to us.
  • Anyone catch Clerks II cameo-stealer Kevin Weisman on NBC’s “Chuck” last week? He played a gymnastic villian. Pretty evil one, too. Good stuff. We’re not sure if NBC has their stuff On Demand though we’re betting you can stream it down via NBC’s website if you like. It’s a good show, too, worth a weekly watch if you’re so inclined. After all, we gotta enjoy new TV while we can, right?
  • “Southland Tales” is now playing in limited release here in the US, and as you may have heard, generating mixed reviews. It’s one of those love-it-or-hate-it flicks, it seems. It hasn’t hit the PA heartland here, so we’ve yet to see it, though we do want to continue some small coverage on it, given Kevin’s small role. For the intrigued, like us, there’s a new interview with director Richard Kelly over at Rotten Tomatoes giving more insight into the long-awaited film. No mentions of Kev in here, but an interesting read if, like us, you’re waiting to check the flick out.
  • We want to throw a small plug up here for Eric Wilkinson, whose View Askew claim to fame was designing the “Drawing Flies” cover many years ago. He’s now producing movies and has a new film, “Jerome Bixby’s The Man From Earth”. It hit DVD last week (11/13) and is now available at all the major retailers: Wal-Mart, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. Support another New Jersey filmmaker and check it out.
  • And last, but certainly not least, take a peek at some new work from Marilyn Ghigliotti (“Clerks”), a short film called “Roadkill” that she did earlier this year. Enjoy, and we’ll see ya back here next time, undoubtedly with news from the world of “Zack and Miri” and much more. Thanks for stopping by.

The “Boring-Ass Life” Book Tour Is Coming…

August 18th @ 8:45 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin will travel from coast to coast to promote his new book “My Boring Ass Life: The Uncomfortably Candid Diary of Kevin Smith”, by visiting both Stash East AND Stash West – Saturday, September 29th from 12-5 (EAST) and Monday, October 1st from 5-9 (WEST). You MUST buy a copy of the new book ON SITE to qualify for getting anything signed. Kevin will sign your book, and up to TWO additional items that you bring along with ya (or buy at the store as well). The item limit will allow everyone in line a chance to get their swag signed (you don’t wanna be that guy/gal with the pile of 15 things anyway, trust us). Lines tend to be very long for these things, so we can’t urge you enough to ARRIVE EARLY and stake out your spot — Better to wait early and get your stuff signed than wait all day and not make it to the front.

See Kevin’s Myspace blog or Boring-Ass life blog for the official word and a couple nifty videos to go along with it.

ALSO, be sure and catch Kevin on the tube (that’s TELEVISION, not YouTube) promoting the book: September 25th on the Late Show with David Letterman, and October 3rd on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson. Both are CBS.

Kevin also has a Q&A coming up in Ithaca, NY at Cornell University’s Bailey Hall on Saturday, September 22nd. We all know how late those Saturday Q&A’s can go, and if it’s anywhere near as fun as Red Bank was, it’s totally worth the trip. We’ll have more details on that earlier next week for ya, as students have yet to receive the official announcement, but Kevin revealed the date today.

You can listen live to the broadcast via their website, no matter where you live. He’ll likely be there to plug the show, but you know that some other stuff’s gotta come up as well. Be sure and tune in locally or via the web.

Kevin Back To The Basie?

May 2nd @ 11:39 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Asmo Deus

  • The rumors have been buzzing around, but is it now official? We can’t call this 100% just yet as the official word hasn’t come into the offices here, but the latest mailing from the Count Basie theater in Red Bank, NJ is indeed reporting the return of Kevin, during prom weekend, on his 37TH BIRTHDAY for what we think could very well be the biggest, baddest Q&A session EVER. Last time we were in town for this show, Kevin set a new record for time on stage — Will he upstage himself yet again this year? Here’s the write-up:
An Evening with Kevin Smith on his Birthday

Thursday August, 2, 2007 at 7pm
Presented by: Count Basie Theater

Ever wanted to wish Kevin Smith happy birthday? Ever wonder what actor, writer, producer, director and editor Kevin Smith’s top 5 favorite movies are? Why the hero in his movies frequently has a best friend who wears his baseball cap backward? Why he references Star Wars in his films? This is your big chance. Celebrate Kevin Smith’s birthday with him (he was born on August 2, 1970) during a no-holds-barred question-and-answer with the audience. For the uninitiated, Smith’s films include Clerks (1994), which won the highest award at the Sundance Film Festival; Mallrats (1995); Chasing Amy (1997), which won two Independent Spirit Awards for Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Role; Dogma (1999); Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001); Jersey Girl (2004); and Clerks II (2006). He’s also an award winning comic book writer; a film school drop out; an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Illinois Wesleyan University, 2000); owner of his own comic book store (Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in Red Bank) and his own production company (ViewAskew), and he makes short films for the Jay Leno show. Come find out how he accomplished all this before age 37!

Tickets: $75, $59.50 $39.50 and $25

Click here for more info or to purchase. The show SOLD OUT last time, and with prom folks in town, along with the local fans and the NYC crowd, this WILL sell out again. We highly suggest you GET YOUR TICKETS ASAP for this one! There’s no place to see Kevin like the Basie. We hope to see you there with us.

The Kenny Gordon Foundation 2004 Fundraiser Screening of “Jersey Girl” and Exclusive After-Party

Hosted by Ben Affleck, Jon Gordon, Kevin Smith, Liv Tyler & Patrick Whitesell

Thursday, March 4th at 6:30pm

We are currently working on our second benefit to follow last December’s extremely successful fundraiser which premiered the film “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”, hosted by Jonathan Gordon, Matt Damon, and George Clooney. It was an incredible evening that raised over $225,000 for the KGF.

Reebok, Sprite, KMX, and the Manhattan Mortgage Company generously sponsored the December 2002 event. If you are interested in becoming a corporate sponsor, click here http://www.kennygordonfoundation.org/sponsorships.html.

This year’s event, which will take place on March 4th, will be a premiere of Kevin Smith’s film, “Jersey Girl”, starring Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, George Carlin, Jason Biggs, and Jennifer Lopez. Smith will co-host the event along with Gordon, Affleck, Tyler, and Patrick Whitesell. The screening will be followed by an exclusive after-party with the director and stars and feature a raffle and silent auction showcasing one of a kind items and packages. Click here http://www.kennygordonfoundation.org/prize.html to see a list of last year’s prizes.

You’ll love Jersey Girl anywhere you see it this year, but if you want to attend the cream of the crop of screenings, this is the one to see. We’ll have more details here soon. Note: The corporate sponsorship links do get you seats into the show, so talk to your companies about making a donation AND get yourself a seat.
