This Week’s SModcast Is HERE!

April 10th @ 12:59 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin lets us know via the blogs that the new SModcast has arrived, and is now available exclusively and free at View Askew’s awesome entertainment portal, Quick Stop Entertainment. Once again, Kevin and Scott dish on current events as well as some of the most random stuff you could ever imagine in the weekly edition, now up to episode number NINE. Here’s the rundown:
In which our heroes pitch Canada on a new national slogan, suck off “Grindhouse”, predict a world gone mad in which the deaf prey on the blind, figure out that “Planet of the Apes” was more than an hour long, delve further into Scott’s home(s) and garden, revisit the skittish Wolfie, tell a tale of cross-breed passion betwixt a giant Yellow Lab and a miniature Dachshund, define the human cassolette, reveal dental hygiene as foreplay in the Smith household, pinpoint the time of day they’re more likely to couple, brainstorm an exercise regiment that’s predicated on murder, and find themselves troubled by the notion of fun.

Download this and all episodes RIGHT HERE. And if you’ve yet to subscribe, you’ll find info there on how to do that, too. We love SModcast. We think you will too. If you’re not a regular listener, now’s as good a time as any to get on board. We’re certain that you’ll be hooked.

FINAL Die Hard 4 Trailer: Featuring Kevin!

April 3rd @ 6:36 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by TheLegand

  • Yippee-kay-ay! Let’s Talk Die Hard 4!

Alright, so we’ll admit — 4th movies of a series, especially so far down the line, normally aren’t good ideas. So the original idea of resurrecting the Die Hard franchise was, to fans like us, scary. We LOVE the first Die Hard as one of the best flicks of all time (quite possibly the BEST actioner ever). The 2 current sequels both have merit in their own way, never quite standing up to the original, but entertaining all the same — How can you not like John McClane? So, when the first teaser showed up, folks were skeptical. Heck, so were we. Well, folks, put all those worries aside – The final Die Hard 4.0 (or, “Live Free or Die Hard”, as we hear it’ll be called stateside), has ARRIVED, and it KICKS ASS. And yep, Kevin gets a nice chunk of voiceover and screentime right in the heart of it. Check out some shots here.

What’s gonna make this flick work? First up, let’s hope this one didn’t pull the PG-13 trick and water down the violence and the colorful language. That type of stuff is what Die Hard is all about. So here’s hoping we don’t get the “Aliens vs. Predator” of the Die Hards here. Also, let’s hope the flick is as good as this amazing trailer looks. There’s a lot of cool action going on here, “money shots” if you will — Let’s hope they haven’t blown them all to fill the seats and still have some surprises left (as there is a LOT here – choppers, planes, hand-to-hand, a badass chick, and some great callbacks to the original flick from the sound of the dialogue). So, that being said, we’re now STOKED. The one-liners, the explosions, the action – McClane is back! And he’s brought our favorite director with him! It doesn’t get much cooler than that, folks. We’ll see you in the theater seats this July.

Make Way For SModcast 8!

April 3rd @ 6:33 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Podcast downloaders everywhere are heralding the arrival of the awesome SModcast, as Kevin and Scott bless us with their 8th edition of observations, anecdotes, and current events discussion. This epic edition is by far the longest one ever, coming in at a hefty 1:18 runtime. This also marks the first time we get some Askew-like news out of the show, where Kevin and Scott talk about “Reaper”. Here’s the official rundown for this week:
SModcast 8: The Entirely Too Over-Long Episode – In which our heroes puzzle over the merits of Rich Little and Danny Gans, review a foreign ruler’s take on cinema, go on about Kev’s “Reaper” stint for awhile, discuss working for The Man, assess whether or not they’ve become whores, touch on what it’s like for Mos to be the Green Goblin’s kid’s henchman, talk about editing-for-hire on “Who’s Your Caddy?”, and wrap up about twenty minutes later than they should’ve.

As always, SModcast is exclusively available via Quick Stop Entertainment, or via a subscription on your favorite podcast downloading service. Need to catch up? Every episode’s here available for free download — None of that $1.99 per-play type BS. Enjoy.

Listen To The #5 Ranked Podcast On The Planet!

March 20th @ 4:57 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier return for another episode of the now NUMBER FIVE RANKED PODCAST ON THE NET (according to the mighty iTunes), SModcast! In just five episodes, this is quite a feat and one to be incredibly proud of. This is one podcast that’s certainly spreading across the globe, and rightfully so — The honest matter-of-factness these guys display week after week continues to entertain like no other ‘cast out there. A lot of folks keep asking us if the show will ever be used for View Askew type scoopage, stories and news — To that the answer is a “no” for MOST of the time, though you never know when the guys might drop in a hint of what’s to come, or tell a tale of Askew’s past, among all the other general random fun. That’s the beauty of the show.

The rundown for this week’s offering, which brings the ‘cast count to SIX:

SModcast 6: Inverted Nipples

In which our heroes lament the death of a cinema legend, discuss the dead and other threats to the environment, analyze where billionaire authors’ biggest nut comes from, catch up with Potise while constantly incorrectly referring to Arnold’s as Al’s, reminisce about scholastic achievements, search for insight into an ex-girlfriend’s mother’s motivation in penning a very damning note, and get steamy with tales of teenage heavy petting.

SModcast continues to offer up the FREE entertainment week after week, available for instant download for anyone with an internet connection and the skills to find it over at Quick Stop Entertainment. Enjoy this once-again insightful, entertaining, and funny episode.

J&SBSB: The Short Version!

March 16th @ 5:51 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by John Whiteaker, Kevin Dilmore, Chuck Gould

  • According to his latest blog, Kevin loves this “short effin version” of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, which takes the film and cuts it down, basically, to the mother of all words (mostly uttered by Jay). Ironically, our favorite portions of this edit are the little extra bits (aside from that big F) that the editor sneaks in. Kevin says:
For all those people who ever said “Your flicks are nothing but a slew of vulgarities.”

Apparently, they were right.

Fuck…

Watch for yourself via YouTube or Break.com.

SModcast FIVE FIVE FIVE!!!

Kevin and Scott once again take to the mic for some good ‘ol FREE entertainment that we just can’t get enough of here at News Askew. Here’s the plotline for this week:
SModcast 5: Nipples You Can Hang a Coat On –

In which our heroes talk poker and casino etiquette, analyze Mos’s frugality and greener instrincts as well as his corn-oil burnin’ car, chat about their missed moment of Oscar glory, muse about the danger of mouth-breathers at a comic book convention, come clean with tales of unsolicited homoerotic escapades from their youth, and refuse to shower in gym.

With “Heroes” off the air until the end of April, we’ve got a new Monday night tradition for ya – Listening to SModcast! Enjoy another 52 minutes of hilarity and insightfulness from View Askew’s pioneers!

SModcast Returns With Episode 2!

February 13th @ 3:49 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier are back yet again, with the podcast that oozes coolness, SModcast. The guys yet again have some up-to-the-minute discussion on current events (and anything else that comes to mind), with a totally uncensored, brilliantly-produced FREE online podcast streaming to your computer or MP3 device of choice via the Quick Stop Entertainment website. Things get right off into R-rated territory today with a discussion of one of the more profane words here in the US and then directly into the death of Anna Nicole Smith (yet again proving that these guys are recording this stuff on the fly). The creative clippage returns to accompany Smith and Mosier, along with almost constant music throughout this one’s 46 minute runtime. Other topics include sex with celebrities, the Dogma shoot, crime in the city, and more. The runtime just flies on by again; these guys could talk all day long and remain compelling.

Here’s the official write-up:

SModcast 2: A Dubious Super-Power –

In which our heroes ponder about C U Next Tuesdays, discuss the death of a human train wreck, compare amateur porn to Elmo, create a platform for Walt Flanagan’s mayoral candidacy, contemplate dalliances with the famous, do bad Salma Hayek impressions, and discern exactly how spineless the fat one is as they relate tales of criminal victimization in major metropolitan areas.

Kevin’s tease over at the blogs for this was that he “Wussed Out In Front of Alanis”. Listen to SModcast to find out how, exclusively at our own beloved Quick Stop Entertainment. FREE!

Sucks Less: The Season Finale!

December 15th @ 11:10 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • “Sucks Less”, the show that made us want to be filmmakers, just so we could take this class, has wrapped up its first season with a trifecta of Episode Six videos over at the mtvU site.

First up, a super-sized 10+ minute season finale brings us 3 new clips, including one from a winning submission that a viewer sent in — A regular Karaoke event in their hometown. You’ll also see information on a website that might help you with your problems, free of charge, and pay a visit to a real-life bullfighting school. As always, the entire thing’s wrapped up by Kevin and the Sucks Less crew at the Stash, where this week, they reference that famous UCLA video where security guards taser a student. Stick to the end for a funny montage and a fitting farewell to the cast and crew of this season.

In addition to the big finale, we’re also treated to a bonus segment at a Poetry Slam. The episode runs in its own movie, so let the Sucks Less final credits montage run through to see it.

Finally, catch a 2 minute “Behind The Scenes” reel, which gives you a look on the other side of the camera — Take a glimpse at what went into making “Sucks Less” happen, and catch a few funny outtakes as well.

As always, you can catch the show on your AMPed mobile phone, via your University’s mtvU hookup, or the Sucks Less site, for both Windows AND Mac users.

We’ll miss the show, and certainly hope UCLA continues the program with Kevin — Not only does it make a fun weekly broadcast, but it looks like a winning class for the students as well, who we must say did a fantastic job bringing the series online with its inital run. Like what you see? Let Kevin know at his MySpace blog.

Thursdays Still “Suck Less”!

December 7th @ 11:55 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin informs us that Episode 5 of “Sucks Less with Kevin Smith” is now available in the usual places, the most popular being mtvU.com. There, you can see Episode 5 of the Kevin-hosted, UCLA student-filmed and edited program of fun and odd stuff college kids can do on their weekends. After this week, just one more episode before the semester (and first season) end! By Kevin’s wording, we’re assuming this course/program will return to us in the Spring, with a new crop of young filmmakers getting their feet wet. Fantastic news, as Sucks Less continues to being a fun few minutes to look forward to every week. It’ll certainly be missed over the holiday break.

This week’s episode takes us into the Sucks Less mail bag with Kevin, along with segments on a late night bike riding tradition in LA (and across the country) called the “Midnight Riders”, getting your first tattoo, and last, but certainly not least, how to train your kitty to use your toilet as a litterbox.

And hey, best of all, all 3 segments were journaled by chicks this week. Boo-yah. Enjoy it at the official Sucks Less website!
