• Check out this lovely trade ad for the upcoming Clerks II DVD. It streets (along with “Evening Harder”) on the 28th of November — A very happy day for View Askew fans everywhere. If you look closely, you’ll see the full official specs of the disc. We’re stoked about the “Back to the Well” documentary after the brillaint doc on the Clerks X disc. We’re sure it’ll be worth the price of the disc alone. Oh, and you get a fantastic movie, too.
• Kevin’s “Bottoms Up” cameo is confirmed and showing in television ads for the DVD. In the ad, he can be seen pushing photogs out of the way as Hilton and Mewes enter a glitzy event. The disc was released on September 12th.
• Wanna meet Jason Lee, Ethan Suplee, and Jamie Pressly and get your Earl season one DVD signed? Meet all three of them TODAY at Best Buy, New York City (5th and 44th) from 7-9 PM for the signing. Or, try the NBC Experience Store in NYC this Wednesday from 3-5 PM!
• Jason Lee (kind of) graces the cover of the latest MAD Magazine in their spoof “My Name is Earlfred”. Hook us up with scans if anyone nabs the issue!
• And finally today, showing what a good sport he is, Matt Damon appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live , playing along with the running joke that has him gettimg mysteriously “bumped” from every episode. Enjoy, and we’ll see ya next time!

• Those of you on the fence regarding a trip to Los Angeles may have just had your decisions made for you — There will now be back-to-back events at Cinespace to celebrate the DVD releases of Clerks II AND Evening Harder. Clerks II’s event has just been announced, and will take place Sunday, November 5th from 6 PM until Midnight. $55.37 gets you into that one. And then, the previously-announced “Evening Harder” watching party happening Monday, November 6th from 6 to midnight for $55.00 as well. Much like the Evening Harder event, attendees will receive a free signed Clerks II DVD with their purchase. Please note: You MUST buy tickets separately for each event. They will go on sale MONDAY exclusively for board members and readers of this website. We’re expecting a quick sell-out to both events (the free signed discs make the deal even sweeter). Kevin will be on-hand to host both events, perform Q&A, talk about the segments, and the like. Best of all, you’ll be seeing the stuff on these discs WEEKS before everyone else does. And of course, both events take place at the awesome Cinespace, so you can eat and drink all night long while the discs premiere.

Kevin posted full details as well as some FAQ on the shows, which we’ve got for ya right here:

1) There are 250 slots per night. Tix go on sale on Monday (offering ‘em up here first, to VA Boardies; after one week, any unsold tix get offered to the MySpace crew).

2) Entry fee to each event gets you a signed DVD, though not at the actual event itself. Once “Evening Harder” and “Clerks II” street, then you get your DVD (or DVD’s if you’re going to both events), which you can either pick up at the Stash, or have sent to you on street date..

3) If you’ve already ordered “Evening Harder” from the online Stash, you can’t cancel it to go to this (you’d be creating a nightmare for the online Stash folks). If you’ve already ordered “Evening Harder” from the Stash, AND you want to attend this, you’re gonna have two copies of “Evening Harder” (though, with Christmas coming, I imagine you can unload the second copy)..

4) No bitching about #3..

5) Cinespace also runs a bar and grill, so you can eat and drink while you watch four hours of “Evening Harder” (food and drink not included in entry fee)..

6) These events are gonna be pretty fucking cool/fun, and worth the trip for out-of-staters (I’m talking to you, East Coasters).

The events are not over a weekend due to the impossibility to reserve a theater on popular attendance days. So these days were picked to make it as close to a weekend as possible.

These events will not likely be repeated on the east coast.

• View Askew vet Alanis Morissette will guest star on the 9th episode of Nip/Tuck’s new season on FX this year. She’ll play girlfriend to their anesthesia expert, Liz Cruz, described as “an athletic and perky woman who is into health and fitness”.
• In case you missed the mention above, the “Evening Harder” US DVD release date has indeed been pushed up — It’s now November 28th. That’s right, the exact same day that Clerks II hits shelves here as well. Get those orders in now, folks — And clear your calendars, we’re counting close to 10 hours of new View Askew footage you’ll have to go through once you’ve got both sets.
• The guys who make the Angry Gamer Podcast have released the latest episode of their weekly video gaming podcast – Episode 29. It includes a variety of mock television shows, one of which is full of Clerks and Clerks II homages. There’s gaming versions of Clerks II’s “Ass To Mouth” conversation, a Dead-Rising themed version of Mallrats’ seeing eye picture, and plenty of Clerks references.

• We heard rumblings about it last week, now the news is confirmed — Kevin’s announced the official “Evening Harder” DVD viewing party at Cinespace for Monday, November 6th, from 6 PM to midnight ! The $55 entry fee gets you admission into the beautiful location in Hollywood, CA, your own signed copy of “Evening Harder” on DVD, and 4 hours of fun with Kevin himself. Cinespace is a great place to throw a party, complete with a full bar and grill in addition to its screening room. Here’s Kevin with the full details:

So, imagine this — A full grill cooking up yummy burgers, chicken, and other stuff – A full bar (so you can get a little buzzed while you watch the hilarity), a room full of crazy View Askew fans, and Kevin Smith, live and in person. In other Earl news, a few fresh scans today — The come to us from the UK DVD magazine “DVD Review”. First, an interview with Jamie Pressly about Season one set, and second, the review for the actual discs. It’s rated a ‘must see’ with 5 stars for the show and a 4 for extras! And finally, look for the cast pairing we’ve been waiting for – THE Burt Reynolds guest stars with Jason Lee in Season 2!

• In a massive David vs. Goliath battle, the band “Supernova”, whose “Chewbacca” track won them fans when it appeared on the Clerks soundtrack and in the film, have won the rights to maintain exclusive ownership of their band’s name — This announcement just on the heels of the Tommy Lee band project that touted that very group name on “Rock Star” all summer long. That new band tours in a few months, though it looks like they’ll need to do it under a totally new name. The decision, in short, bars the CBS-created rockers from touring, recording and selling merchandise as “Supernova” once the order takes effect. Some articles on the big news:

• Kevin brings the happy news today (via his blog) that super-producer Scott Mosier tied the knot with his girlfriend Alex “Cookie” Hilebronner on September 1st. We’d like to offer our sincerest congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple — We know Scott’s been one of the biggest lurkers here at News Askew since we started, so we’re sure he’s reading this right now. That being said, for the rest of us, here’s Kevin’s personal congratulatory post as well:

A day none of us thought would ever come…

Uber-Producer Scott Mosier is legally off the market.

On Friday, September 1st, Scott Mosier married Alex “Cookie” Hilebronner in a small, Van Nuys courthouse civil service. The pair met on “Jersey Girl” (proving to the critics, once and for all, that something good came out of that much-maligned flick), and tied the knot on the fourth anniversary of their first date (i.e. – the first time they boned).

For anyone who knows Mosier, the news of the nuptials was akin to peace in the Middle East: it’s something we thought we’d never see. Scott had long maintained a staunch, “I’ll never get married” position – so much so that it would’ve been less shocking had Mosier announced “I’m suddenly turning gay,” than “I got married.” That Cookie was able to change Mos’ mind is nothing short of miraculous, and speaks volumes about her charms (both emotional and, one would suspect, sexual).

Join me in extending a hearty “Congrats” to the happy couple.

• DVD Bits runs a new report from a fan in attendance at Kevin’s recent Australian appearance at the Astor Theater. A few new photos are attached as well as a nice summary of the evening’s questions. A snippet:

• Lots of Lee in the news today. So let’s kick off the newsbites — First up, the “My Name Is Earl” season one DVD gets a mention in the new issue of FHM, page 86. They have a picture of Jason and Ethan, along with a couple of words about the DVD. If anyone wants to hook us up with a scan, we’ll post it up (our scooper didn’t send one).

• We DO have a scan of this wonderful A-rated review of the Earl Season one disc from Entertainment Weekly. Very high rankings especially for the extras, including the commentary track for the disc and that Alterna-pilot episode that we just can’t wait to watch.
• And rounding out the Lee news, Nancy Cartwright (who is best known for voicing Bart on “The Simpsons”) is hosting an auction at her home in Northridge Sept. 30, 5:30 P.M. Money is being raised to fund the Devenshire District Youth Center as she is the honorary mayor of the city. She mentions that there will be Lee-signed items as part of the auction. • The New York Times ran a piece on VA Alum Matt Damon. It’s a retrospective on his career (with a few bits about upcoming films) and it also mentions his recurring involvement in View Askew projects. You can check out the electronic version HERE.

• Ok, first up — Kevin officially confirms that the street date of the Clerks II has been moved up to November 28, 2006. Just a couple short months away until this gem can be a part of our collections! The cover we previously posted, he reveals, is also incorrect, as a Chicago Sun-Times quote will appear on the cover.

Kevin also confirms that the disc will indeed be packed with features, including an ironic 37 minutes of deleted film footage:

• We’ve been telling you about Affleck’s turn in “Hollywoodland” lately, and now a major film festival has backed up that claim — Ben’s been awarded the “Best Actor” trophy from the Venice Film Festival this weekend. Major congratulations to Affleck, who channels the late George Reeves to perfection in the flick. A much-deserved award for a guy who’s been a friend to View Askew for many years.

Ben Affleck is seeing something that has eluded him for a long time — good reviews. There are plenty of them for his performance as actor George Reeves — who played Superman in the 1950s’ TV series — in Hollywoodland. Gene Seymour in Newsweek writes: “Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Reeves epitomizes the movie’s solicitousness and grace. Affleck gives his all to his star-crossed character, evoking Reeves’ vocal inflections and physical presence (even his creeping middle-age puffiness) with startling precision and affecting sympathy.” Chris Kaltenbach in the Baltimore Sun writes: “The scenes featuring Reeves, played with just the right mix of professionalism and exasperation by Ben Affleck, are the best things about Hollywoodland.” Susan Walker in the Toronto Star comments, almost in amazement: “Somehow Ben Affleck is perfect as … Reeves.” And Philip Wuntch in the Dallas Morning News concludes: “Affleck’s thoughtful performance reflects the despair of a natural-born charmer who discovers that charm isn’t enough to reach Hollywood’s heights. Those who insist that Mr. Reeves’ rise and fall mirrors Mr. Affleck’s career trajectory are entitled to their opinions, but Hollywoodland definitely is an upward step.” Several critics agree, however, that Affleck is better than the film itself. As Manohla Dargis writes in the New York Times: “Ben Affleck has packed on the pounds, slipped on some tights and given this exasperating film far more than it gives in return.”
