• For those of you still wondering about the extent of Kevin’s involvement with next week’s release of “Starwoids” on DVD, this open letter came to us from Jonah Loeb, president of IndieDVD (yep, the same company working on releasing View Askew production Drawing Flies to disc this year):

• Until October 5th, J&SBSB is showing at the Rio Film Festival. Shows are continuing to sell out and play well, with applause throughout. One local newspaper, “Globo”, called Jay and Silent Bob the “Abbott and Costello of the 90’s” and gave the flick 4 out of 5 stars. The movie has been purchased by a local distributor for release there.
• We’re hearing that Amazon is writing some of you to cancel your pre-orders of the “Bluntman & Chronic” book. They’re claiming this:

Don’t worry, folks, as far as we know Amazon is just cancelling the item due to delays, and the book will still see a release, there’s just no current release date scheduled at this time. We’ll post more as soon as we can find it out.

• Good news, folks: After some delays, we’re now hearing that the long-awaited Beserker long sleeve and short sleeve T-shirts are shipping this week to all comic stores from DIAMOND. Here’s the prices and item numbers from their catalog:

• Even after its theatrical release has come and gone, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back are still in front of the hottest flicks poll at Rolling Stone. Check that out HERE.

• In the November issue of “Maxim Presents Blender” magazine, there’s a page where they ask different people (doctors, authors, celebs, etc.) their advice for Suge Knight now that he’s out of prison. One of them is this:

• And speaking of Affleck, rumors are running rampant regarding the fate of his “The Sum of All Fears” given the recent world events. Page Six ran this story today:

• Attention MAC Users: These sweet new icons are done and available for download HERE and soon at Files Askew. They are compatible with Mac OS 7.5 right up to the new Mac OS X. Look above for a screen shot of some of them in action.

• And finally today, above you’ll see a panel from DC Comics/Vertigo’s new release “I, Paparazzi”, which details the adventure of a celebrity photographer as he reveals the hidden secrets that a vast alien/freemason/government conspiracy exists, using our celebrities to lull us into submission so that the world can be taken over. By way of proving this theory, he finds himself in a party where a couple of familiar faces can be seen (check out the far left of the frame). The hardcover released this week is carrying a $30 pricetag, so you may wanna wait for the softcover on this one.

• Hey folks, just wanted to pop in for a sec and let you know why we’ve been silent the past couple days! Chris is out of town this week but usually does help get the updates up on the site – Starting with the Monday update, he had some technical difficulties and I do believe we might have lost that update completely (not sure yet). He couldn’t get back up on Tuesday either, so that update I’ll likely get to later today, along with a new Wednesday update. Sit tight, we’ll have some catching up to do but we’ll have it all back in order as soon as possible. Hopefully when Chris returns later this week we’ll be able to salvage that Monday update, also. See ya again soon.

• On Friday night, the CAB Film Festival from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY took place. Brian O’Halloran and Jason Mewes were on hand for the event. They showed Clerks and Dogma, had 2 Q&A sessions with the guys and they stuck around to give autographs to everyone in attendance. Here’s a brief summary that we received on some of the information that might be of interest to you:

• According to www.spawn.com, Kevin wrote a POEM (not a story) for the comic book “Heroes” to benefit the NYPD, NYFD, and Red Cross. The poem will accompany an image drawn by Joe Quesada and inked by Todd McFarlane. The artwork for the piece, along with a story about it, can be seen HERE.
• Here’s another article on Kevin’s recent Cornell appearance, from the Ithacan at Ithaca College.

• With the Daredevil movie becoming a reality, one fan took some Askew folks and placed them into his dream characters: Matt Damon as Daredevil, Ben Affleck as Bullseye, Shannon Elizabeth as Elektra, and Ethan Suplee as Kingpin.

• We’re receiving reports that Best Buy is carrying Malcolm Ingram’s “Tail Lights Fade” on DVD for just $12.99. Something to hold ya over until his Drawing Flies arrives later this year!
• Looks like there’s plans to re-print all the Fletch books in 2002, (Amazon has placed “Yet to be released” tags on the books). It’s no doubt a tie-in with the release on Fletch Won, similar to what’s being done with the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings books currently.

• A couple guys in the UK went to a costume party dressed as Jay and Bob…Check out a scan of them above.

• A fan read the recent Kevin Smith interview on Wizardworld.com and couldn’t resist creating an animation as the result of this comment:

While not exactly a porn flick, it’s one of the first flicks to star the Silent Bob figure (aside from the goofing around Kevin himself has done with them in the past). Check it out HERE.

• This article about Kevin Smith’s appearance at Cornell University last Mondaynight was published in “14850 Today,” part of “14850 Magazine.” It’s well worth the read, and an excellent account of what it’s like to attend one of Kevin’s big Q&A sessions, from start to finish. Be sure to check it out.

• Clerks is screening at the Palace cinemas in Brisbane. Australia on Monday night at 7 PM as part of a double billing with the also enjoyable “Welcome To The Dollhouse”. Details can be found HERE.
• Universty College Dublin, Ireland (UCD) is having a Kevin Smith week in October. They are showing all his films in a theater, with the exception of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which hasn’t been released there yet. You have to be a member of the Science-Fiction Society in the College. Membership costs about £1 and it’s easy for people who are not students in the college to join, so if you’re in that part of the world, there’s a fun opportunity for ya.

• Green Arrow continues going strong, but a few remaining projects are still nearing release, here’s the latest on a couple of them, thanks to recent AICN reports. We ran a recent story that Kevin would be involved in the “Heroes” book that Marvel’s releasing in the wake of the recent tragedy. However, his name seems absent whenever other sites have mentioned the book, so things may have changed. However, this AICN report seems more promising, and it says Kevin is working on a December shipping book called “Moment of Silence”:

Sounds like we’ll be waiting still a bit longer for that one.

• Variety is reporting that Ben Affleck has landed the role of Daredevil in Regency/20th Century Fox co-production of “Daredevil”. Vin Diesel passed on the role so he could make the sequel to “Pitch Black”. Shooting is scheduled to begin in the spring. Here’s a piece from Mr. Showbiz on the announcement:

And, from today’s Hollywood Reporter, this story uses the word “negotiations” about the role, and doesn’t make it sound finalized, though we expect it’s only a matter of time:

And so, the big question is, with Affleck wrapped up in this project, who will assume the lead role in Kevin’s upcoming “Jersey Girl”? It’ll be interesting to see. Coincidentally, yes, we’ve also considered the “Girl” in that title might be the daughter, since it’s a flick about fatherhood and Kevin’s learned a lot from daughter Harley. Guess we’ll find out soon enough!

• This event sounds like one NOT to miss…And here we thought nothing ever happened in Kansas! The Landmark Starlite Drive-In (Wichita, Kansas) will be having a “Kevin Smith Triple Feature” this Friday and Saturday, with Clerks showing at 8pm, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back at 9:45, and Dogma at 11:30. Admission is $10 per carload. Sounds like a FANTASTIC deal, and worth the drive if you can make it in. Their website is www.starlitefun.com.
• In other screening news, “Clerks” will screen at the University of Dayton, Ohio this Friday night at 8 PM.
• Kevin comes up a big winner in this massive Empire Magazine “Ultimate Movie” poll. First, he took honors as the #19 director , and even cooler, placed #5 in the screenwriter competition. Check ALL the results of the poll online HERE.
• And in other UK news, this small piece on “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” from Total Film:

• The latest issue of Inquest (the sister publication to Wizard that focuses on games) has a “Twisted Toyfare”-ish 2 page spread titled “Jay and Silent Atog”. Basicly it’s Jay (or a Jay action figure) chilling on a sidewalk with an Atog (from the card game Magic) while various characters (again-from Magic) walk by and Jay makes comments to or about them. It’s 11 panels total. If someone has a scan for us, send it on in and we’ll post it up.
• A View Askew reference has popped up on one of the many Bin Laden flash games out there these days. If you play the game HERE , and choose the nuclear weapon, the nuke’s got a picture of the Buddy Christ with the text “Whos Your Buddy?” on there.
• When J&SBSB is released in Australia on November 15th, it will go up against “Evil Woman” (”Saving Silverman” in the US) and “Don’t Say A Word”.
• With the Halloween season upon us, theme parks and cornfields around the country are setting up their big Halloween scare fests. Jay & Bob’s popularity must be soaring, as we’ve already received reports of them appearing at two of the country’s largest.

In Southern California, there’s a little amusement park known as Knott’s Berry Farm. At Knott’s Berry Farm, they transform the park into “Knott’s Scary Farm” – The Halloween Haunt for the month of October. This event has been happening for 29 years now. One of the main attractions of the Haunt is “The Hanging” show. The Hanging has evolved through the years from an old-style witch hanging into a current spoof of pop-culture. This year, two of the characters in the Hanging are Jay & Silent Bob. The set up for their arrival is a Planet of the Apes lead-in. The Apes are looking to take over two areas of the park, The Ghost Town & The Gauntlet. Jay & Bob arrive on the scene to “Save the park for the stoners”. Hilarity ensues with a culmination to our boys dressed in Bluntman & Chronic garb & having a light-saber duel with the apes! (One of the apes is actually using the “Green Destiny” sword (from Crouching Tiger fame) against Jay as he is wielding his dual ended light-saber. The Haunt runs for 21 days this month in Buena Park, CA. It all starts tonight, October 4th!

The duo also have large parts in this years Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure and Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights. The guy playing Bob is like a smaller version (both shorter and skinnier) but other than that good, and the guy doing Jay reportedly “pretty much nails it”. Check these shows out if you’re in the area!

• Finally today, this interesting tidbit from Wizard that contained a reference to Mallrats:

The Wild Ride, by the way, has been turned into a new Winnie The Pooh ride, and lines for it have been VERY long at the park.
