EXCLUSIVE: Sum Of All Fears On Set Pics!

May 8th, 2001 @ 5:21 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • An anonymous source sent us a few close-up shots of Affleck and crew on the set of “The Sum Of All Fears” in Canada from a couple weeks back. They were taken at Mirabelle airport near Montreal, and at St.Jean-Sur-Richelou, an old militarybase outside of Montreal. Shooting of the film continues in Canada, though no futher set details or release information has been leaked on the flick lately. Affleck’s certainly been keeping busy and working on a lot of flicks, though, that’s for sure. All the pics do enlarge, by the way, just click on ‘em.

  • Your second chance to win a Chris Bailey-signed Clerks cartoon DVD print is now up over at animationondvd.com. Surf over, answer the question, and good luck.
  • For those of you keeping track of Matt & Ben’s Project Greenlight, Zentertainment reports:
‘STOLEN SUMMER’ CASTINGS

Aidan Quinn (Practical Magic) has committed to starring in STOLEN SUMMER, the PROJECT GREENLIGHT drama written and directed by nline contest winner Pete Jones. Kevin Pollak and Brian Dennehy also star in the film, about a young boy searching for a way to get his dying Jewish friend into Heaven. The production of the MIRAMAX film will be documented for a 13-part HBO series.

  • Speaking of Affleck, he’s featured on the cover of the new Newsweek, which features a story on the upcoming Pearl Harbor. The only question is, will the flick take in as much as The Mummy Returns did last weekend? Our coverage of the film here, which will surely have a TON of press, will be limited due to all the other stuff going on more closely relating to View Askew.
  • In the liner notes of the new album by Blues Traveler, “Bridges” (which comes out this week,) buried in the middle of the ‘thank you’ section, it reads:
“…it only remains for me to take off all of my clothes paint myself bright purple climb to highest spire in town and cry for all to hear, I love you Amy Greuter… Kevin Smith was right sooner or later we will all be ‘Chasing Amy.’”
  • All this month the Emerald Theater in Mt. Clemens, Michigan is showing one of the View Askew film every Wednesday night. Last Wednesday was Dogma, this Wednesday is Clerks, next Wednesdat is Chasing Amy, and the following Wednesday is Mallrats. The shows all start at 9 PM (they’re also showing an episode of Clerks TCS before each of the movies, by the way). Tickets are only $2. More info can be found HERE.
  • Finally today, a fan has made 2 MP3 “mixes” of sorts titled “Silent Bob Bio” and “Bodie Bio” which you can get respectively HERE and HERE. I can’t listen to or test these from work, so listen at your own risk!

EXCLUSIVE: Three New Pics From The J&SBSB Set!

May 7th, 2001 @ 7:18 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Once again, thanks to Jamie Anderson, Scott Mosier, and Kevin Smith, we’re happy to present three never before seen photos from the set of “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” for ya on this Monday morning. The first shot above features one of (if not THE) first looks at Affleck reprising the role of Holden, as Jay & Bob follow him into the loft. Note the cool new Nails artwork done by Ratface, Scott & crew towards the center as well (guess it’s kinda hard to miss). Next is a shot of Eliza, though honestly we’re not sure if this one’s in the context of the film or just some goofing around off camera. Finally, one of the Mosier classics, an outdoor scene featuring Will and the other police. That’s AD Tim Byrd to the front and right of him, by the way. Thanks again to View Askew for the photos, and we’ll see ya next Monday with three more.

Commentary…

  • Just a quick word today…With all the news happening and the bigger stuff surrounding the movie starting to come around, don’t forget to check the site for multiple updates from time to time. For example, tomorrow morning we’ll post the new set pics for the week, then likely be back later if there’s more news to report. Don’t miss out! Today we’re very pleased to bring you the menu screenshots from the upcoming “A Better Place” DVD (it won’t be long now, folks) as well as a few other odds and ends, including that scoop that a lot of you saw, Kevin’s new plug in Ebert’s Answer Man column, and more. Check out that new poll topic, as well. Here we go:

First Look: “A Better Place” Menu Screens!

  • Thanks to Vincent, we’re happy to present 4 menu screens from the upcoming Synapse DVD release of “A Better Place: Special Edition”. Note: On the final version, “Cassese” and “Skywalker” will be spelled correctly. Click the thumbnails above for a better look at how the chapter selections, special features, introductions and more are organized. It’s nice to see that the deleted scenes will indeed be viewable both with and without a commentary track, a feature often lacking from this area of most discs. Enjoy, and pick up your copy on or preorder before June 19th!

  • Today’s most popular scoop, by far, is Kevin’s quote in this week’s Answer Man column by Roger Ebert. He manages to answer the question AND get an early plug out there for Jay & Bob this August. Check it out:
Q. While watching the DVD of ”Dogma,” I noticed that in the scene where Linda Fiorentino’s character is trying to convince Jay and Silent Bob to accompany her to New Jersey, Jay says ”I feel like she’s Ben Kenobi, I’m Han Solo, you’re Chewy and we’re in that [bleeped]-up bar!” Aren’t Jay and Silent Bob inspired by C3P0 and R2D2? One is tall, slender and speaks at great and annoying lengths while the other is short, fat and hardly utters a word.

Roy Chang, New York

A. Kevin Smith replies: ”From as far back as ‘Mallrats’ people have been asking me this question, and I have to admit it’s an interesting theory. However, I’d be lying if I said the similarities were intentional. While Jay and Silent Bob may suggest the world’s most famous droids, it’s purely coincidence. However, if my embracing of your theory makes you rush out and see ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ when it hits theaters nationwide Aug. 24, then may I take this opportunity to say that there has never been a more astute observation of my work.”

  • Look for Ben Affleck and his “Pearl Harbor” costars to begin appearing on 3 days of Celebrity “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” starting on May 20th. Contestants’ winnings will go to benefit the proposed National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
  • Finally today, Fandom’s got an article on the Comics Code Authority and in it, they talk to Kevin about how he was forced to make changes in Daredevil:
Take Kevin Smith’s recent Daredevil run for example. While the storyline is obviously not aimed at children, the series is Code approved, even though it includes scenes of Daredevil dropping a baby off of a rooftop and Karen Page catching a billy club in her chest. At the Wizard World convention in Chicago, Kevin Smith admitted that he changed at least one scene in his run, Daredevil giving Black Widow the “big beat-down,” a scene where the most violent acts were off panel. As Smith originally envisioned it, Daredevil would graphically be shown beating on Widow in his Mysterio-induced mind control.

Access Hollywood Clip Online!

  • That Access Hollywood clip that Kevin mentioned a while back is finally showing up on the program this weekend as part of their Summer Movie Preview, about 15 minutes or so into the show. The significance of the clip is that it features the first shots of the Bluntcave, as it looked exactly when we visited the set a few months back (we must have just missed these guys!). Jen, Ali, and Eliza are also featured in a quick shot, along with some words from Kevin. Want to see the clip? You’re in luck! We were able to capture a feed of the show and throw the clip up over at Scooping The Monkey for your viewing pleasure. Surf over and take a look. Enjoy!

5 Minutes With Kev @ WizardWorld…

  • That WizardWorld piece was posted on Friday as scheduled, and it’s quite good. There’s a few new bits revealed that you may not have been aware of, as well as some clues to some other stuff. In addition to the stuff about the flick, there’s info on Green Arrow, Bluntman & Chronic, and lots more from the comic realm. Here’s a preview:
Looking back, what’s the coolest scene in the movie for you?

Smith: Ummm… for me, it’s really just some really quiet, very subtle stuff. Just some nuances to Jason Mewes’ performance really make me laugh, just knowing the guy and knowing how far he’s come since we started making movies together.

The big moment for the audience is going to be Mark Hamill’s moment. Without going into too much detail, it’s Mark Hamill doing what Mark Hamill does best.

Trying to find his car like he did in “Corvette Summer”?

Smith: Exactly! You get to watch him in the ‘Vette.

Also, watching Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in very familiar roles is fun. There’s a quartet of girls in the movie who are international jewel thieves who we get to see in action in a very elaborate diamond heist scene. It sounds very hokey, but it works in the movie. It looks great.

You can read the whole thing at the WizardWorld site right HERE.

  • Heartbreakers, with Jason Lee, streets on VHS and DVD on September 25th.
  • Will Ferrell is supposedly booked for the Conan O’Brien show on the 18th of this month. Perhaps a J&SBSB mention will happen?
  • Recently on MTV during the Destiny’s Child special, Kevin and Will Ferrell appeared for a pretty funny confessional. Will sang an…..interesting, rendition of Destinys Child’s “Survivor” while Kev was laughing. Then Kevin looked to the camera and professed his love for Destiny’s Child and their music. Then Will informed the rest of America that “Orange is back in” as he pointed to his orange shirt. Some pretty funny stuff, even if it were for a few minutes of joy.
  • There’s an article in this months DIAMOND DIALOGUE (a retailer supplement magazine previewing books, cards & the like to be sold through Previews within the next few months with background articles on them) about the new issue of High Times featuring Kevin. Here’s the transcript:
HIGH TIMES AHEAD FOR KEVIN SMITH

Fans who can’t wait for the fall release of “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” to get their next dose of Kevin Smith can smoke him out in HIGH TIMES SEPTEMBER 2001, which features an in-depth interview with the comics industry’s popular director/writer/retailer. Smith first can into the public eye as the director of such quirky, successful films as “Clerks” and “Dogma,” and has since added comic book writer to his resume with successful runs of Marvel’s Daredevil, DC’s GreenArrow, and a number of Oni comics based on his View Askew-niverse films. Furthermore, Smith owns his own comics specialty shop, and his devotion to the four-color medium has earned him a pedestal position in the eyes of many fans. Given that his films and comics often contain counter-culture references, HIGH TIMES is the perfect venue for a Smith interview, and the magazine “sweetens the pot” with a three page primer to Smith’s Jay & Silent Bob and Bluntman & Chronic comic books.More than just the premiere journal of marijuana-related news, humor, and adventure, HIGH TIMES is a brand name that is well known to people who are familiar with – or even interested in – the counter-culture. Retailers can capitalize on this issue by offering it to fans of Smith or his on-screen partner, Jason Mewes (”Jay”), as well as to those who show an interest in underground comix and related material. HIGH TIMES September 2001 contains Adult Material, and is solicitedin the Magazines section of the May Previews.

  • There’s a better version of the black and white Jay & Bob pic that we posted the other day over at Scooping now.
