- Due to the traffic on the site last week, we were just plain unable to post these puppies as promised, so here they are just a little bit late. Three more sketches, courtesy of artist Mike Oeming, of the upcoming Bluntman & Chronic graphic novel this summer. Click the thumbnails for full shots of these, the first they’re seen on the web!

Latest Post From Kev…
- Kevin weighs in on thoughts on the Internet trailer, and reveals that the flick’s already down to 110 minutes, likely to be down by 10 more, putting it at about 1:40, pretty average for a comedy flick. Don’t worry, though, they gotta be saving all the cut stuff for the DVD that’s been thought about since even before the movie started filming. Here’s Kevin:
First, Scott. He cut the trailer with me. Originally, I wanted to put out on all dialogue trailer. It would’ve looked exactly like the trailer you guys have seen, but it wouldn’t have had any music, or that little montage after the “Ladies! Ladies Ladies!” line. Mosier suggested we pump in some of Jim Venable’s sweet-ass score, which lead to adding that little montage of shots up front as well.
Speaking of music, thanks to Jim Venable, who provided not only the trailer, but the whole movie with a kick-ass score.
After those cats, I’ve gotta thank Phil Benson, who not only mixed the dialogue so you can hear what everyone’s saying, but also labored like a mutt to get the trailer compressed and insisted it be available in more than one size.
Ming, too, rushed over after putting in a ten hour day at LivePlanet, just to make sure we had the whole thing ready to go. Not only did he guide Phil through the compression options and uploading process, but Ming also designed moviepoopshoot.com, the site that’s hosting the trailer (for the curious, that site also plays a large role in the flick itself).
Vordo gets a shout-out, too, for mixing the music so that you hear and feel it, but it doesn’t intrude on the dialogue. Kudos to mix-master Vordo.
And lastly, to all of you guys and gals that log-jammed our sites for three days. It was one of those nice problems to have, because it meant you were all dowloading like crazy, and getting to see the first sneak-peak at what’s in store for you on August 24th.
When the theatrical trailer’s realeased, don’t expect the same kind of free-for-all. Those things are governed my the MPAA, and in order to get a green band trailer (which means you can screen at the head of any movie in the theater, not just the ‘R’ rated stuff), there’s no cussing allowed (I doubt we’d even get away with saying “clit” in a green band trailer).
That being said, the theatrical trailer will be far more spoiler-ific than the teaser is. That’s where they’ll tell the story of the flick, and show you footage I hoped wouldn’t be seen until late August.
They’ll probably put far funnier stuff into the theatrical trailer, too. That’s what I was most proud of with our teaser: we didn’t include any of the really funny stuff. Don’t get me wrong, it’s all good; but we were able to fashion that taste of the flick without even using the strongest material.
Which simply means the best is yet to come…
In light of how well this all went over, we’re cooking up another little something to share with you guys in about a month or so. I think you’ll dig that too.
FYI: The movie’s down to 110 minutes. That’s what we’re testing at. The release length will probably be at least ten minutes shorter than that. Which means that the jokes come even faster and more furious, though not at the expense of the story.
Oh, who am I kidding? Like there’s a story…
From the sound of things they’re going to give up some of the bigger surprises (maybe even Hamill’s character, which would be a real shame) in the theatrical trailer, but let’s hope not. Guess time will tell!
Final Two “A Better Place” SE DVD Screens!
- Vincent was kind enough to hook us up with the final two screenshots from the “A Better Place” DVD, which reveal some cool stuff about the release. First of all, the deleted scenes not only have scene by scene access (thankfully), but also a very nice menu system for getting around to re-watch your favorites. Even cooler, they’ve packed the disc with even more by adding a comparison of the original sound mix to the new Skywalker 5.1 sound mix. You won’t believe the difference that a remix can make. Anyway, check out the screens, and don’t forget to order your disc from the Stash to get all the signatures and film clipping! Street date is June 19th.

- Check out the poll at the Yahoo Movies site regarding the film you’re most looking forward to this summer. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back of course made the list…So…You know…choose wisely!
- Premiere Magazine‘s July 2001 issue (Jude Law on the cover) has a blurb about Jay & Bob with some minor plot details and a new quote from Kevin about Hamill’s character, so read at your own risk:
Starring Ken Smith and Jason Mewes
Directed by Kevin Smith
(Dimension August 24)”Coming off being the enemy of every Christian on the planet,” Who’s last film was the controversial Dogma, I just wanted to do something light.” In this Hollywood satire, the duo that appear in every on of Smith’s films-foul mouthed Jay (Mewes) an enigmatic Silent Bob (Smith)-are trying to stop a movie about themselves from being made. As they road trip from New Jersey to Hollywood they encounter characters from previous Smith efforts, played by such folks as Jason Lee (Chasing Amy, Marats) and Ben Affleck and Matt Damon (Amy, Dogma), and such new jokers as Jason Biggs, James Van Der Beek, and Will Ferrell, who plays a bumbling wildlife marshal who tracks our heroes and a missing orangutan. “My first scene is me pleasuring myself and reading this dirty wildlife magazine.”
May the Farce Be With You: Watch for a cameo by Star Wars’ Mark Hamill. “He has a line that anyone who has ever seen him in his other job would have loved to have heard him say,” Smith says
- Here’s a scan of that poll that Jason Lee won handily in Total Film magazine regarding his deserving A-list status. Click to enlarge.
- As you may or may not know, readers can get a free 3 year subscription to MAD Magazine by providing a picture of them w/ the celeb holding the mag. Welp, someone took a pic w/ Kevin to accomplish this. There’s a little blurb w/ the pic that reads as follows:
Alas, we’ve got no scan to include with this.

- Finally today, those of you looking forward to the flick may want to use this fan-made wallpaper for your PC, which features a ton of screengrabs from the new trailer. Enjoy the weekend, folks.
Commentary…
- Alrighty, so things are finally STARTING to get back to normal around here. The server is still receiving MUCH higher than normal traffic, which is amazing considering the trailer has been around for almost 3 full days now. We’re currently sharing bandwidth with Moviepoopshoot.com, thus any site that’s linking directly to the trailer there is slowing down News Askew as well. Again, if you’re downloading the trailer to watch it again or save a copy, PLEASE try the mirrors listed over at Scooping The Monkey first.
Believe it or not, the news is pretty slow, most folks must just be watching the trailer over and over again. Many fans are piecing stuff together from the many, many quick clips in the trailer, and the net is going crazy over this thing. Countingdown, Dark Horizons, Total Film, Cinescape, and TONS more are picking up on this story and the response has been incredible. For this reason, we don’t HAVE a lot of scoops, so if you have yet to receive a reply on a scoop, or they bounce back, please keep trying to get your e-mail through. Things should slow down this weekend.
By the way, as a result of this, News Askew and View Askew WILL be receiving a massive server upgrade…More disk space, bandwidth, memory, the whole nine. Watch for that soon. You should see faster loading times, talkback generation times, faster forums, and, best of all, a slowdown like this should not happen again. We’re planning it all out now, and hope for a seamless transition to the new boxes very soon.
Also, a couple strange requests: First of all, is there by any chance anyone here who works for a print shop? I’ve got a couple of postscript files that I’d like printed out, but very large…I’m talking about maybe a couple of high-quality gloss decals that are about 3 feet by 1 1/2 feet. If I took these things to a print shop, they’d charge me an arm and a leg, but I thought if someone worked in one, you might be able to help out. If you can, please drop me a line.
Finally, has anyone seen a copy of that Japanese Survivor-like flick with kids fighting to the death called “Battle Royale” out there anywhere? If so, again, drop us a line. Thanks, and now on with the show…Just two very very small newsbites, but hey, it helps to clean out the mailbox:

- Looks like that Pearl Habor edition of Millionaire with Affleck has been nixed, due to the fact that US Senators were involved and that it violated Senate guidelines. No replacement shows or anything involving Affleck is planned.
- Miramax really plugs the heck out of their releases…Check out this MAJOR Dogma plug on the back of the “All The Pretty Horses” DVD with Matt Damon, which announces “AND DON’T MISS ANOTHER GREAT PERFORMANCE BY MATT DAMON IN DOGMA!”.
Trailer Mirrors Available & More Details…
- A few words on server problems, the trailer, and stuff. First of all, if you haven’t noticed, News Askew has been VERY slow for the past day and a half. This is all due to the incredibly high demand for The Trailer. The problem is that we’re all sharing server space, and all of the trailer locations that were listed yesterday were basically taxing the same server and bandwidth. We’re working on new mirrors, though, that’s the good news, which should be MUCH faster and we highly recommend that you use if you want to download a copy of the the trailer. If you have a server that you can mirror the trailer on, LET US KNOW.
Assuming most of you are like the rest of us, and want the biggest and best version of the thing, we’ve got the largest and highest quality QuickTime version mirrored at the following locations:
MultiMediaReview.com – 480 x 176 (11.8 megs)
Homepage.Mac.com – 480 x 176 (11.8 megs)
MultiMediaReview.com – 240 x 87 (2 megs)
Thanks to Bill for the new mirror up there. If you want to see the trailer, AND to lessen the burden on the News Askew server, we URGE you to surf over to these alternate sites to get the trailer. Due to the Dark Horizons mention yesterday as well as the post at AICN, not to mention our regular daily traffic and all the fans from the WWWBoard, things are REALLY busy. We apologize for any e-mails that bounced back to you, and also for the slow speeds in talkbacks, the forums, and otherwise.
Just a few words about the internet trailer – This is by no means a representation of what the official teaser and trailer for the film will be. Kevin and Scott (and maybe others) put this gem together with the die-hard fan in mind. That’s why you’re seeing all the in-jokes, references to past films, and the like. While this stuff certainly will be a highlight of the flick for many of us, the film itself is not designed ONLY for fans. The internet trailer, however, was. Hope that sheds a bit of light on why the trailer plays like it does. It’s what Kevin figured all of you would want to see the most. It’s a great piece of work.
We’ll be back with a full, regular update soon (as soon as we can get enough bandwidth to post some!). Thanks for your patience. This incredibly high demand bodes VERY well for the film.
Post Your Comments On The Trailer…
- We’d love to hear your thoughts on the “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” Internet trailer (see links just below and over at the Scooping The Monkey page. A special area at the News Askew Forums has been created for discussion of all those amazing gems that were carefully spliced together to create the exciting teaser trailer for the flick. Surf over and give us your thoughts!
By the way, our servers are getting HAMMERED with requests for the trailer today, so bear with us in regards to the slowness of everything. After the initial rush of downloads, things should go back to normal later in the day. Thanks for visiting…More updates later.
JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK – THE INTERNET TRAILER
- Alright, so we scammed ya a little bit. News Askew is proud to present your first, internet exclusive look at a trailer for “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back”. That’s right…Before the theaters get it, before it winds up on television, you’re seeing a trailer that was designed exclusively for you, the View Askew Internet fan. The trailer runs 1 minute and 22 seconds, and features some really classic lines along with glimpses at pretty much every character in the flick. You’re gonna laugh. Trust me.
The trailer has appeared at a website called Moviepoopshot.com, which is a clever site that’s basically going to play directly into the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back film itself (you’ll see, or the astute of you might even figure it out). Looks like there’s some very creative web marketing that’s going to tie into all the other promotional stuff going on as well (the site promotes an upcoming “Bluntman & Chronic” feature. At this point, we’re not sure if this site will continue to receive updates, though we think it’d be a great touch.
In the meantime, we’ve provided a LOCAL MIRROR of the trailer here for your viewing pleasure. Kev’s post regarding the site, by the way, is as follows:
I just found this new website, moviepoopshoot.com, and while they don’t seem to be very old, even THESE motherfuckers are jumping all over my dick.
Go read it and see what I mean.
Go on.
Read it.
Every little bit of it.
Closely.
Especially the fucking “shooting gallery” numb-nuts’ opinions.
I’ll wait…
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT COMING FROM KEVIN…
- Wow, it sounds like something major’s going down, and we’re going to be anxiously awaiting this post, coming in less than 2 hours…Here’s a post Kevin made just moments ago:
I’ve had it up to here, and I’m going to honestly set the record straight on how I REALLY feel about ABC, Miramax, the Catholic League, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Entertainment Weekly, Ain’t It Cool News, Wizard Magazine, Alex Ross, Peter David, Warren Ellis, the movie industry, and anyone else who’s managed to piss me off over the course of the last year or so.
The other shoe is about to drop.
Axes are going to fall.
No one is safe.
Because I’m going to finally… FINALLY… give some motherfuckers in cyberworld the bitch-slapping they’ve been begging for for months.
Spread the word. Tell your friends. Tonight, the gloves come off, and it’s no more Mister Nice-Guy. Watch career suicide as it happens!
I’m in a bridge-burning mood, folks. Grab your marshmallows.
News Askew will be awaiting this announcement and be back with comments and more as soon as it’s made. Stay close to those PCs, folks.
