Duchovny Out For Jay & Bob…

January 17th, 2001 @ 10:44 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Rich McCarthy, Roy Opochinski & Scott

  • Aint It Cool News broke this scoop just this evening, ending the rumors flat. David Duchovny will not be involved with Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back due to scheduling conflicts, but from the sound of things may want to work with Kevin in the future (so it’s not all bad). Here’s the story, with thanks to AICN:
“One bit of news from the visit, though. David Duchovny told us that he is not going to be able to work his schedule out for JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, the new Kevin Smith comedy. He’d been heavily rumored to be playing a small role in the film, and regrets not being able to make it work. Mr. Duchovny (who I was just told is “yummy” by the pretty-darn-yummy-herself Marla Singer) said that he would love to work with Kevin Smith at some point, and he seemed genuinely irritated at the way his EVOLUTION schedule is going to take him right up to his return to X-FILES later this spring.”

“Jay & Silent Bob” To Go Against “American Pie 2”?

January 17th, 2001 @ 8:02 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by The Drunken Cossack

  • Lots of rumblings are going around regarding the proposed August 10, 2001 release date going around regarding “American Pie 2”. As many of you know, and Kevin himself has joked, the flick shares a LOT of actors with “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back”, and presently shares a proposed release date. Not only that, but with both the flicks being R-rated comedies after the same demographic, we’re almost positive that someone is going to move dates. With Jay & Bob already underway, and AP2 still just in a scripting stage, we don’t think the August 10th date is in jeopardy, at least as far as AP2 is concerned. Dimension wants Jay & Bob out on that date, and we’ve got a feeling it’s going to make it. Of course, we’re not always right, either. We’ll let you know if anything changes.

Clerks On (Anamorphic?) DVD In The UK!

January 17th, 2001 @ 8:00 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by DVD Debate

  • Lee from the DVD Debate website contacted us with some exciting news for those of you in the UK, or anyone with a DVD player that can do Region 2, really. It appears that Clerks will hit DVD this summer, including everything from the US DVD version, as well as an anamorphic transfer! We’re not sure if this means they’re doing a totally new transfer from the original elements, or if it’s going to be a cheated anamorphic, but we’ll keep you posted. As strong supporters of full anamorphic DVDs, it’s always nice to see a flick being made available that way. Here’s what Lee had to say:
We’ve unearthed a little item of news that may be of interest to your UK viewers. After a long chat with the UK distributors, Artificial Eye, we’ve managed to find out that Clerks is due for a region 2 DVD release in the summer. They hope to include everything from the Miramax Collector’s Ed plus…ours should be anamorphic 😉

The only problem may be legal clearance of the Soul Asylum video which is one of the things holding up the release but they are hopeful that it will be available.

  • There’s a short little sound bite from Jason Lee on Cinescape Online. He talks very briefly about playing TWO ROLES in J&SBSB and says the film has “a lot of chaos”. Cryptic.
  • An advanced review of the upcoming issue #1 of Green Arrow appears at Fandom.com
  • More UK News: Jason Lee’s turn in Almost Famous hits the screen on January 26th, and Ben Affleck in Bounce moves into theaters a week before on January 19th.

Also, Empire Online summarized the Psycomic announcements last week, focusing a great deal on the hopeful Duchovny cameo.

  • Quite a few folks wrote in to tell us there’s a picture of Jay Mewes and Pauly Shore on that site we mentioned yesterday for Shore’s new flick. We’ve got a copy for you above.

A Better Place & Dogma SE DVD Updates!

January 15th, 2001 @ 8:33 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Vincent Pereira

  • Well, one of the two anyway….Sadly, we’re still unable to report anything on the Dogma Special Edition DVD. We’re waiting for any info but they’re keeping it quiet for the time being. Basically, we’re still assuming there’s some content issues (similar to those issues a while back that they’d found a way around) and that the studio is working with those involved with the disc to come up with a solution. While this again seems rough, it’s a good sign. Whatever the problem is, the delay means that they’re trying to get the best product out there to the fans, rather than just settling for something inferior.

Speaking of which, the A Better Place DVD could have been done a while ago too, if Vincent hadn’t insisted on making this thing PERFECT. And while we know a lot of you have orders in all over the place, the good news from Vincent himself is that the final blocks are being put into place. Here’s Vincent:

As for A BETTER PLACE, the deleted scenes are finally together and the commentary recorded and Don May is heading out to Los Angeles in a week to finish work on this and a few more of his titles. That means, all elements will be handed to the authoring facility and work on the screens, navigation, compression, etc., will begin. It’ll take them 2-3 weeks to do this and get us a check disc, and after we approve that, a few more weeks to press the discs, so this one is just about ready to go. When we actually have the check discs in hand and approve them, we’ll announce the firm, final date, but look for it to be late-February.

There ya go, folks. Stay tuned for more big DVD news here soon. Clerks Uncensored is still on track and we expect to see the two mentioned in the headline in the next couple of months. Keep those spots on your DVD shelves open.

  • We are attempting to confirm if Kevin and Jay will still appear at the Mega Convention in Orlando, Florida later this year. It was previously announced as happening but the new guest list has them strangely eliminated. If you have any info on this appearance, let us know. Hey Kevin, is this one still on the books?
  • Here’s an online story that was uncovered written by a fan who recently had an unexpected run-in with Kevin and Jennifer in Los Angeles.
  • HMV UK have produced a limited edition run of Dogma DVD and VHS in an exclusive sleeve. It features just Ben and Matt from the UK poster but with a bright pink background. See a shot of the cover or order it at HMV UK. Special Features on the UK edition include cast and crew interviews, teaser trailer, main trailer and UK TV spots.
  • More Askew spottings in music: A band called “The Ataris” features a Clerks soundbite on their new CD called “End is Forever”. At the end of track four, entitled “Bad Case of Broken Heart” they use Silent Bob’s dialogue: “You know, there’s a million fine-looking women in the world dude, but they don’t all bring you lasagna at work, most of them just cheat on you.”
  • Website WorldIndustries.tv, has a video titled “Blind Video Days” under their OLD VIDEOS section that features lots of Jason Lee skating stuff. Check it out.
  • Finally today, Jason Mewes in a Pauly Shore movie? Will the world be ready for this?

Roll ‘Em!

January 14th, 2001 @ 12:59 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Scott Benner

  • Well folks, it’s a most historic day, as this summer’s upcoming comedy hit, “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back”, has gone before the cameras. That’s right, folks, filming has begun! Here’s Kevin with his first of what’s sure to be many reports direct from the set…
While not the official start date, we did, indeed, start shooting yesterday. It was what’s called a ‘pre-shoot’ day, which means that the studio picks up the tab for the day, and not our budget (although, since the studio also picks up the tab on our budget, what’s the difference, I say).

Shot out both Steve Kmetko and Jules Asner. Both true sweethearts who helped make it a very easy and enjoyable first day. From now on, I’m starting all my shoots with these two.

Mewes, too, was great. We had this dolly shot in which a running Mewes gave a very funny, wide-eyed expression.

And there was another actor I’d love to wax complimentary on, but his deal hasn’t been announced yet. He, too, was quite hysterical.

Tuesday is yet another ‘pre-shoot’ day (with Jeff Anderson), and the Wednesday is the first official day of the show (with Carlin).

And although I haven’t sat in the chair for over two years now, it all came back pretty quickly.

Only fifty one more shoot days to go…

Psycomic: “The Casting Aftermath”: Duchovny Interested In Role!

January 14th, 2001 @ 12:57 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Whoops! Almost forgot this week’s column, and a BIG one at that! Finally we get the Heather Graham fiasco explained, and how Shannon Elizabeth came to be the flick’s leading lady…Not to mention news on Charlie Sheen (a no-go, sadly), and TONS more casting news: Some of which we already knew, but some additional stuff, including Ever Carradine and a bit role for…yes…David Duchovy (schedule permitting). Wow. This is the column you’ve all been waiting for, folks. Here’s a preview of one of the most tell-all editions yet:
Heather doesn’t understand why her character would fall in love with Jay.

I chuckle about this for a day or two. Granted, she’s not completely off the mark – I mean, it is Jay we’re talking about (the character, not the man himself; fuck it – yeah, even the man himself). But then, why does anyone fall in love with anyone in the movies. Shit – why does anyone fall in love with anyone in real life? After all – who can fathom the complexity of the human heart?

What are you waiting for? Get over to Psycomic and read all the big announcements!
