Green Lantern Movie?
by Rob Allstetter
Filmmaker Kevin Smith said that he doesn’t think he will be part ofEvent Comics taking over four Marvel titles this year.
“I don’t think the Daredevil thing is going to happen. I’m just a littleswamped right now,” said Smith, who is following up Chasing Amywith a film called Dogma. “But there’s another long-term project atDC that I might be doing that would be a shitload of fun.”
Smith, whose Superman movie script was rejected by director TimBurton, said he has had a preliminary discussion about a possibleGreen Lantern film. “That is so premature, though, to even talk aboutit,” he said.
Sorry for the confusion, but yesterday we mentioned the Oni Double Feature hits shelves inFebruary. That was a silly mix-up. Actually, the CLERKS comic is scheduled for that time, andthe Oni Double Feature is on schedule to ship NEXT WEEK! We’re looking forward to it.
Scoopster Devin R. Clancy sends us some rare Jason Lee news abouthis stint on “Enemy of the State”. Here’s what he had to say:
I didn’t see you guys report this so I thought I’d throw it in. It’s not tooexciting, but Jason Lee was in town last weekend (here in Washington, DC) shootingEnemy of the State with Will Smith. Tony Scott directs. I walked by the set andsaw Will Smith, but couldn’t tell if Jason was there then. The excitement was allabout Smith, but the clip on the local cable news station showed Jason doing a scenewhere he runs out of a store. He was (I think, I didn’t have my glasses on) wearinga red hockey shirt that probably wasn’t a View Askew Vulgarians shirt.

In yesterday’s New York Post, an article on the Sundance festival appeared which included a guest list. Here’s what they said about Mr. View Askew himself:
KEVIN SMITH
Nobody typifies the scrappy independent filmmaker better than Kevin Smith. In 1994, Smith burst onto the indie scene with “Clerks”, a comedy about a New Jersey college dropout working in a convenience store.
The film won a major award at Sundance, and went on to become a slacker anthem. Though Smith’s subsequent film “Mallrats”, was a box-office flop, he returned to glory with “Chasing Amy”, an offbeat love story that cost $250,000 to make and took in $12 million.
Gone are the days of credit-card debts and no-name actors. With a budget of between $4 and $5 million, Smith’s fantasy film “Dogma” has real-life stars Linda Fiorentino, Chris Rock, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Alan Rickman.

DAMON HAS A DREAM DATE WITH THE PRESIDENT: MATT DAMON’s dream year has been topped off with the presidential thumbs up. Hollywood’s golden boy, whose screenplay GOOD WILL HUNTING stormed the box office and raked in nearly $11 million this past weekend, has received the ultimate invite. Damon and his co-stars BEN AFFLECK, ROBIN WILLIAMS and British beauty MINNIE DRIVER, have been asked by American President BILL CLINTON to join him at his retreat CAMP DAVID. Clinton has been eager to see the movie and Damon, and the love of his life Driver, will sit right next to the president during the special screening.

Jonah Weiland, who runs an outstanding website called “Comic Book Resources”, dropped us a line today to let us know that he just put a phone interview that he did with Kevin online in RealAudio format. Click our local link to listen to the stream, which runs about 25 minutes. It’s an excellent, VERY recent piece where the comic scene, VA flicks, and lots more get covered. Don’t miss it! Thanks also to Flack for making sure we knew the interview was online.

Click here to read a lengthy post Kevin made on the board last night, mostly responding to the Daredevil rumors, along with some more exciting info: Namely, that “Dogma” will be filiming in Pittsburgh, PA! That’s just 3 short hours away from us. Perhaps we’ll be able to swing a set visit sometime during filming? Here’s hoping…
