• Well, what can we say? Once again the gang put together an entertaining and very amusing piece of media to add to the View Askew gallery. Kevin and Jay were in top form as they hung out in the Stash and introduced the bits (our favorite of which had to be the Jay’s Niece piece), showed some clips of classic MTV videos that we remembered the same way from our childhood, and of course got those rarely-seen VA videos we’ve been taking about all week on the air for yet another run.

Ming has already set up a cool page with all of the spots converted to Real Video for everyone to enjoy over and over again. Just click HERE to check them out.

Hopefully the show, and the spots (which you’ll start seeing pop up on MTV fairly often for the next month or so) will broaden the audience, so more people out there can enjoy View Askew’s flicks and become more familiar with Kevin’s work. The shorts were definitely filmed in a general way, so newcomers could see the humor in them just as well as us veterans. Kudos to the whole gang responsible…You all did a fantastic job. It was cool seeing Walt & Bry getting lots of screentime, as well.

If you missed the special, according to MTV, it will air again at 10 AM, this Saturday morning, same time on all coasts, we believe. Don’t miss it AGAIN!

By the way, on an unrelated note…this is the SECOND thunderstorm we’ve had in the middle of WINTER in central Pennsylvania this year. What the HELL is going on here?!?!?

• You’ve asked US, you’ve asked on the board, and, frankly, there was just nothing we could do for ya. Now, the information you’ve been looking for is here. Our Pittsburgh scooper wrote with the following info:

Good luck to ya! Now, we assume this is different from the extras casting day(s) that Kevin will be announcing on the board sometime next month, but we’re not certain. If you MUST be an extra, I’d take that approach, but we’re gonna take our chances and wait for Kevin’s announcement.

• Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’re probably already aware that the long-awaited special on MTV airs tonight. Jay & Silent Bob’s Video Stash features 8 (Not 11, as we erroneously stated before. Thanks, Kevin. We need to start verifying some of these sources!) shorts featuring the duo, along with classic View Askew videos (“Can’t Even Tell”, from Clerks, and “Build Me Up Buttercup” from Mallrats), some other stuff from your childhood (part 1 of Cyndi Lauper’s rarely-seen “Goonies R Good Enough” video), and of course introductions/general wackiness from crew Askew.

Set the VCRs and huddle up to the sets! The show airs at 10 PM eastern time, 9 PM central, and, we believe, 10 PM pacific time (on delay). We think the special’s gonna give View Askew some excellent publicity…Along with the spots which will air sporadically over the coming months, the special will introduce the characters to a new audience, as well as please all of us current die-hard fans. We’re sure they’ll be plugging Oni Press’s comics as well, and maybe even getting a “Dogma” mention or two in there.

• Just a reminder that Oni Press’s hilarious Clerks comic book ships tonight and goes on sale nationwide TOMORROW. Pick up a copy or two at your local shop, or order them from the Stash. You’ll love the book, for sure…When Joe at Oni Press sent us an advanced copy last month, we knew they had a winner. It’ll be nice to finally be able to discuss some plot details (we were under a “gag order” of sorts…hehe) and perhaps show you some more of Jim Mahfood’s excellent artwork.

• Mike McCarthy’s recent interview with Kevin Smith is going to be the cover story of Lollipop magazine’s new March 1998 issue. Look for it at better bookstores everywhere.
• A few of you have written to us concerning Elliot Smith, the guy who did the songs for “Good Will Hunting”. He’s been getting a lot of press since his Oscar nod for the film’s score, andhis work is pretty darn good. There’s a 22 minute show with him over at www.liveconcerts.com,where he chats and plays some live stuff. If you like him or the flick’s music, stop by andhave a listen!

• Lots of you have been wise to point out to us that the LoveLine radio program isn’t ON onFriday nights, so obviously Kevin couldn’t be making an appearance that day. Perhaps it wasjust misheard information, or totally bunk, but we still think Kev (and Jay!) would have madegreat guests on the show.

• Happy Monday, folks. Hope you had a good weekend. Things are finally getting back to normal around here at News Askew, we’re happy to report. We actually managed to get AWAY from the PC for a while this weekend (hallelujah!). You may (or may not) have noticed, but we’ve made our final move to our new server, LCO. Digiweb was just too erratic with their slowness and downtime, and we wanted a spot where we could give you the most speed and information for our money (We get 100 megs of disk space for the site now). Hope you enjoy the site. Mostly small newsbites for today, so, without further delay, let’s go…

• Entertainment Weekly had a nice little spot giving a plug to Oni Press’s new Clerks book, as well as updating the massses on Kevin’s other dealings in the comic book community. We’re convinced that these guys are tapping our site for all this info, but we’ve just got no proof, dammit! But hey, that’s alright, we’re sure they’ll come to their senses and mention us sometime…Here’s the article!

Note that our countdown has changed at the top of the page now, due to the “secret” starting date. We can only assume that filming will kick off sooner than planned, since Kevin and crew seem to be getting setup out in the ‘burgh earlier than we’d thought. Hopefully we’ll get some good on-set info from Kevin, and maybe perhaps get a chance to do a set visit of our own and give you an exclusive report somewhere down the line…We’ll let ya know if we get the invite.
