  • The A Better Place screening in Houston has been postponed one last time…Here’s the announcement & new date:
Due to scheduling conflicts with the theater, we were forced to push thescreening back one last time. The date is now February 25th, 1999. We havesigned a contract with the theater guaranteeing us this date, so there will beno further postponements. Our apologies to anyone inconvenienced by the delays.
  • A few weeks back they asked readers of the Comics 2 Film website who they’d like to see directing the Superman movie. The results are in: Dogmatic fans are still chasing Superman writer Kevin Smith giving him 51 votes (or 33%).Second place was former Superman director Richard Donner, with 35 votes (or 22%).
  • Here’s some release info for upcoming flicks featuring VA alumni in some capacity: 200 Cigarettes (Feb. 26th),Desert Blue (Spring), Guy Gets Kid (June 25th), Mystery Men (July 9th), Mumford (Fall), All the Pretty Horses (October).
  • Alanis finally, after several talk show appearances, talked about Dogma. She was on MTV recently and was asked a questionabout the flick by the host. Stash Location Clarification…

January 13th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Vincent & Marksman

  • Quite a few of you were interested in yesterday’s story that we ran on the new location of the Stash. A while back, we’d heard that plans were to locate the Offices and the Stash under one roof — This is certainly not the case any longer. Vincent wrote us to clarify:
1. The View Askew offices moved to 3 Harding Road- if you’ve ever seen this building it’s hardly suited for a comic book store, so I don’t think this was ever considered. In fact, I know it was not because the new location of the Stash was found BEFORE Kevin found the 3 Harding Location that he moved the offices to.

2. “The new location was not disclosed”- funny that, since there are signs up all over the front of the new location heralding the upcoming opening of Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, and telling folks to check out the Stash at 69 Monmouth in the meantime. The new Stash is locatedrigh on the heart of Broad Street (not too far up from where the oldoffices are). I can’t recall the exact address right now, but it’s no secret – anybody who walks down Broad Street in Red Bank will walk right past it and see all the signs.

We hope that this clears everything up, and apologize for the confusion. By the way, the NEW Stash address is 35 Broad Street, across from Jack’s Music Shop. This is about a block and a half (and a 60 second walk) from the original location.

Mallrats Screening…

January 13th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Richard Busch

  • Usually you see Clerks or Amy being shown in special screenings…So this one’s kinda cool. Mallrats will be screened at the University of Arizona’s Gallagher Theatre at midnight on Feb. 25-26. If you’re in the area, check it out, since a LOT of you fans apparently missed it on it’s maiden run! The online schedule for the theater can be found HERE.

BHD & Dogma Bootleg Rumors…

January 13th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Jaded

  • Rumor’s been going around that there’s bootleg copies of both Big Helium Dog and, yes, even Dogma floating around out there. First of all, NOPE, we don’t have any copies of these. SECOND, while there IS a chance that there’s a few BHD bootlegs rolling around out there (since preview copies were sent around and often do get copied), it’s HIGHLY unlikely that this has happened with Dogma, since it’s been in protected hands all along from what we’ve heard. Special precautions were also, of course, taken place during the Philly screening last month. So, in a nutshell, don’t get your hopes up on seeing either of these on the street corner anytime soon — And even if you did, you’d have more fun watching them on the big screen, anyway!

That’s All, Folks…

  • We usually don’t cover personal stuff like this, but since so many of you dropped us notes about it, we thought we’d print this story that ran on People Magazine’s Online Daily site today:
Ben, Gwyneth: It’s Over

The year-long romance between Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Affleck is kaput, reports New York’s Daily News. The two reportedly called it quits over the holidays. (Both of them star in the current hit “Shakespeare in Love.”) The parting is amicable, claim sources, while the actors’ reps decline comment.

We’re happy to hear that the parting was on a friendly basis and wish both Ben & Gwyneth the best in the future. By the way, Shakespeare’s getting outstanding reviews across the board and great word of mouth from what we’ve seen.

  • One final last minute addition today, too – DP Dave Klein will be appearing in American Cinematographer’s March issue to discuss his work on the picture he just finished: “Carlo’s Wake”. You can read more about the flick at the Carlo’s Wake Press website. See ya next time!

Kev’s Vanity Fair Episode 1 Quote…

Click Here For More Star Wars Information!

“It set up the archetype of good versus evil for me. Who didn’t want to be Luke Skywalker? Who didn’t want to strike down Darth vader? says the filmmaker Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy), an affirmed Lucas enthusiast who has referenced Star Wars in his movies, and who was six years old when the original film came out. “It was so powerful, by the time we reached the great myths in school, I thought, Well, clearly these people were ripping off Star Wars.” Smith says that when he saw the trailer for the Phantom Menace, “any insouciance or laid-back adult attitude I had was gone. I was a kid again.”

We think the guy summarizes things pretty well!

Stash To RE-Relocate?

January 12th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Marksman

  • A scooper checks in with this news about a possible location change for the new and improved Stash! Take a look:
I made my first pilgrimage to Red Bank this past weekend, and I had a nice conversation with Walt Flanagan, who gave me this interesting tidbit of news about the Stash:

The Stash will NOT be relocating to 3 Harding Road. According to Walt, the negotiations for the space went sour, so they grabbed some space “nearby” instead, but the exact location was not disclosed. Walt says it is going to be “impressive to say the least”.

We’re sure that if this is true, Kevin will confirm it in the coming days…

  • Big news with the next issue of the incredible Marvel Knights DareDevil series? Check THIS out!
DAREDEVIL HITS THE BULLSEYE

Daredevil, which has been continuingly selling out for Marvel since it’s Marvel Knights relaunch, will sell out even wuicker with it’s fifth issue. Why? Because that issue will feature a previously-unannounced 1:4 variantcover by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada that depicts what Marvel Marketing Representative Steve Warble describes as “the shocking development that will change Daredevil’s life forever. What is it? I don’t know; Marvel won’t even tell it’s own sales reps!” “This issue is a must-have for any fan of Daredevil,” Jimmy Palmiotti said. “Kevin wrote the unspeakable, Joe drew the unthinkable, and I traced it!…” Joe Quesada added, “There are a million surprises in Kevin Smith’s ‘Guardian Devil’… Everything changes for the good–and you can’t say you haven’t been warned.”

This sounds like some major goings-on in the DareDevil world! We’re certainly anticipating issue #5 as much as you. Stay tuned!
