- Here it is, our diary covering our trip to the Dogma premiere and post party from this past Monday evening, complete in usual long-winded, overly detailed format. Kick back and read it if you so desire. Once again, we think we’ve given you a pretty good recollection of all the stuff that happened, so hopefully you can have a better idea as to what it was like to have been there. The start time of our show (the second that night) was too close to the Festival showing’s, and about 30 blocks up the street, so we missed the protesting and the big celebrity entrances, sorry to say. So, this story pretty much covers the day, as we saw it, from start to end, including the few hours we spent in the city, the Lions Gate screening, and that way cool post party. Enjoy.

- Remember how we brought up the possibility of Affleck hosting Saturday Night Live sometime this year? Sources now tellus that he has indeed signed on to do just that…Perhaps he’ll get on board around November 12th for an extra Dogma push?
Oh, and speaking of Affleck, he’s scheduled as the big interview for next month’s issue of Playboy Magazine. Oh gosh, shucks, darn, guess we’ll just HAVE to go out and buy that now. Twist my arm.
- We hear that Entertainment Tonight will run a piece on the Dogma premiere tonight, so get those remotes ready.
- An interesting post gathered from the Kevin Smith newsgroup allegedly from someone “in the know” states that Alliancemay have actually had rights to distribute those Amy DVDs with the extras intact, after all. No idea if this guy knows what he’s talking about, but we thought we’d run it just out of interest, not that it does any good since Alliance hasagreed to release concurrently with the U.S. version of the flick now:
You might be a little misinformed there. Alliance Atlantis already “owns”the supplemental material for both titles, since the company distributedthe special-edition laserdiscs of “From Dusk Till Dawn” and “Chasing Amy”in Canada.
As I’ve been led to understand, their license of the supplements on thosediscs in Canada are absolute, and would allow Alliance Atlantis’ DVDproducers to lift the desired material from existing street product if theyso desire; it wouldn’t be legally necessary to contact the contentproducers, though it’d probably be bad form not to.
In the past, Alliance Atlantis has repeatedly gone the extra mile toproduce exclusive special-edition DVDs for the Canadian market. It’s hardlytheir fault that this is no longer an option.
Dogma Soundtrack Due November 2nd…
- ZENtertainment reports the good news that the Dogma soundtrack will be hitting the presses and ready for an in store date of November the 2nd, less than a month away:
MAVERICK Records will release the soundtrack to Kevin Smith’s anticipated new film DOGMA on November 2nd. The recording features the exclusive Alanis Morissette song “Still,” as well as several tracks composed and conducted by Howard Shore(Seven, Silence of the Lambs), performed by the LONDON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA.
And an excerpt from the Alanis piece over at RC states:
Apart from Morissette’s song, the “Dogma” soundtrack features music composed and conducted for the film by Howard Shore (”Philadelphia,” “Seven”), performed by a scaled-down, 30-piece version of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Titles include “Dogma,” “Behold the Metatron,” “The Last Scion” and “Stygian Triplets.”
No word on what other vocal tracks may be included, though possibilities seem to be the Mooby tunes or maybe even that classic 80’s track that blares during Salma’s opening scene. It’ll be nice to have Shore’s score on a disc though, it sounded great in the flick last night.
Benefit Tix Sell In Record Time…
- It seems that some of you were a bit confused about how the whole Dogma benefit tickets thing was working, and we apologize for that, but most got the picture fairly quickly, since they sold in record time yesterday. We spoke with Kim and Vincent about the craziness yesterday. When the e-mail address to send to for tickets was posted, it got SO overwhelmed that, even though Kim had checked with the server company ahead of time to make sure it could handle it, some mail got bounced back. Rest assured though that the problem was quickly corrected, and that all mail was received. Kim will now start to sort through the mess, and get the ticket order forms out to you on a first-come, first-serve basis. Due to the overwhelming demand, everyone’s not gonna be lucky enough to make this screening, but thanks in advance to all who tried. We appreciate the support. Please be patient as Kim and the gang have time to get back to all of you.
New Articles & Reviews At Dogma RC…
- We’ve gotten lots of scoops featuring Dogma in the press yesterday, namely that wonderful New York Times review, as well as Yahoo’s article on the Dogma protests going on at the premiere (funny how those that were protesting were still crying foul on Disney and Miramax, who really have nothing to do with the flick anymore). There’s also a couple more reviews and a new piece on Alanis and the music in the film. Surf over to Dogma RC’s press page for all the latest, as always.

- We’re back from the big city!!! In fact, I’m writing this update after a mere three hours of sleep, so please excuse any strange flubs or spelling errors, it’s a struggle just keeping my head up to write it! New York City and the Dogma screening were fantastic, we didn’t want to leave…Alas, we had to get back to our normal, everyday lives today after that way cool evening. We’ll have a full rundown of the day’s events soon, but as you know, these things usually take me a day or two to put together due to the detail (and the need for extra sleep afterwards). Thanks again to Kevin, Scott, and all the cast, crew, and friends we met last night for the invitation and a spectacular time.
On the View Askew news front, things EXPLODED yesterday, with news on the Dogma premiere of course, a release date for the soundtrack, and more. Affleck’s in the news with some nifty gigs on the horizon, too. Be sure and check in with Dogma Rumor Control for some new reviews and articles today, they’re all over there exclusively. Kevin is listed as a choice under the greatest young directors (Under 40) section. Right now it looks like he’s listed third under Tarantino and Burton. - We STILL don’t play cuz we’re afraid to get hooked on its evilness, but we hear the Hollywood Stock Exchange seems tobe suffering some droping numbers on Kev and Dogma. No idea why it’s happening, nothing to do with the actual popularity ofthe flick, but fans of this page were hoping folks would jump over and buy up the stuff to raise their portfolios. Youselfish bums! We figured we’d help them out and give it a mention.
- According to the Official Saturday Night Live Page, Ben Affleck is in talks and is very likely to host SNL at some point during the season. We’ll keep ya posted.
- Finally, we’ve got two new pics for ya today. First, the publicity keeps on coming for Kevin’s latest flick “Dogma”…And what better way to make everyone sit up and take note of this film than to show the beautiful Salma Hayek in her full glory. The picture comes courtesy of The Sun, newspaper. Affleck, Damon, Hayek all get a mention, but alas, no mention for Kevin again.
Also, remember the supposed backstage pass from Lee’s upcoming Cameron Crowe flick of the band? Turns out it wasn’t theactual one that was used in the film. We’ve got a scan of that from an actual source that was an extra on the flick –Just click the thumb for a better look. You can spot Jason pretty easily.
Hey, we’re off to New York tomorrow, so there will be no Monday update! Hopefully we’ll have enough juice on Tuesday to get caught up with mail, news, and all the good stuff that goes on in the Big Apple. See ya then!
Commentary
- The fall movie season has just been (and promises to continue to be with “Fight Club” & “Dogma” on the horizon) one of the best we can ever remember. Fall’s really been blowing away the summer as far as quality movies at the cineplex. Saw two flicks this weekend: One good, one GREAT. “Three Kings” was a fairly enjoyable and intriguing piece of cinema, though probably not as Oscar-worthy as the whispers have been saying, but definitely had some fantastic moments. Worth your cash. And sorry to get on the bandwagon, but “American Beauty” is just an outstanding flick. Go and see it. We just got back and the verdict is, it did not disappoint. And I had high expectations, as well. The ensemble performed well, with Spacey at the forefront with another Oscarworthy turn. Hell, it may even be worth catching again before it’s gone.
The Dogma trailer, which we saw for the first time on the big screen, appeared before American Beauty, which is a good sign. Lots of folks will see the flick and the trailer in the coming weeks.
I do have a bone to pick here before I get into the update though: Is it just me, or are people actually more annoying than ever at the movies? First of all, folks can’t keep quiet during a movie. And they don’t even whisper. They TALK. Then, we’ve got a guy in front of us who, after the first preview finished, yelled “TURN IT DOWN!!!” when things got quiet. He then proceeded to exit the theater to obviously complain, and sure enough, down goes the sound. So nice that he could decide how loud the movie should be for the other 400 or so people at the show as well. I say it’s better to play it loud to drown out the morons like him that are talking during the movie. Guess they just like it turned down so they can have better conversations. Stay the hell home next time. Man, I love my home theater. I just wish it got first run movies!
Enough of the complaints though, we’ve got some news…Pretty quiet weekend, thankfully, but we’ve got a big day ahead with the Dogma premiere in New York City tomorrow (should be a blast!). For now, some NewsBites. Don’t forget to vote in this week’s poll, too:

- Hey, everyone. Vincent posted some great information tonight on how you can get tickets to the special Dogma Benefit/Screening on October 25. Here ya go…
Okay folks, here’s the lowdown:
We’ve settled on a date, and it’s MONDAY, OCTOBER 25TH at the Clearview Cinemas in Red Bank (the same theater we had the Vulgathon at), and the screenings (one showing in each theater) will start at 9:00 PM. The showings will be a few minutes apart, as Kevin will be introducing them, so he’ll do one theater, the flick will start, then he’ll make his way over to the 2nd screen and intro that one- it shouldn’t be more than a 15 minute difference in starting times, however.
Now, on to price- as we’ve set a goal to raise $10,000 for the Diabetes charity, we had to hike our originally planned $20 or so ticket price to $30. Basically, by switching to a prefered nighttime showing rather than VERY early afternoon (like pre-Matinee), the rental price of the theater jumped as well, and we have to make up for it to reach our $10,000 goal. Don’t fret, however- we’re currently working on getting each and every attendee a special bit of View Askew swag to commemorate the event, something that will NOT otherwise be available through the Stash or anywhere else. We have a good idea of what it is we’re gonna give you folks, but have to do some final clearances to make sure we can before we announce. It’s a neat item, though, and ties in nicely with the screening, and will likely be autographed by Kevin and Mr. “Phat Buds” Mewes himself. And beyond that, it IS for a good cause, and you get to see the flick introduced by the guy who made it 2 1/2 weeks before it opens to the general public. Other possible festivities are being planned as well. Believe you me, it should be an awfully swell time. And if nothing else, this will give all the board folks who want to kill me the chance to do so.
Now, as for the logostics of buying a ticket, here’s the lowdown on that front:
On Monday (October 4th), at 12 Noon Eastern Standard Time (that’s 12 Noon here in NJ), our very own Kim will be posting on this here board- something to the effect that “DOGMA tickets on sale”- you get the picture. Said post will have a special return e-mail address- in order to secure A ticket (remember, due to the limited number of seats we’re only selling one ticket per fan- if you’ve got buddies who want to come with you they’ll have to buy their own ticket this way themselves), you must REPLY to the special e-mail address, with a valid e-mail addy of your own, as well as your name and board monikor. The first 430 folks who respond to Kim’s e-mail will be e-mailed back an order form on Tuesday or Wednesday, and said order form will have to be filled out and returned to us (via fax) with valid credit card number for payment by the end of the week. You will then be sent a confirmation, and all will be good in the world.
If, by chance, anybody among the 430 initial e-mailers do NOT fill out and return their order form with payment in a timely fassion, then however many seats become available will be offered to the corresponding folks from #431 on who responded to Kim’s initial post.
So there you have it- this post is being put up on Friday night to give everybody a fair shot at getting tickets, rather than just putting up the info out of the blue. Remember, watch the board around 12 Noon (that’s EASTERN STANDARD TIME!) on Monday for Kim’s post, and I hope to see you all (well, the first 430 respondees at least) at the screening.
