• A post on the web board made us aware that, believe it or not, Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier’s famous student film, “Mae Day”, is actually available online. This 10+ minute flick has been part of View Askew folklore as far back as we can ever recall. We never expected to see it, but sure enough, the internet delivers another miracle yet again. • Weekend update time. Got a couple good ones for ya today, especially our stop story, which really caught us by surprise. Also, be sure and vote on the new poll topic, it’s a bit early since we neglected to change it last week. Sorry about that. Other than that, there’s not much to say. Caught “Magnolia” last night – It certainly could benefit from some time trimming, but there’s some wonderful performances in the film, including Tom Cruise and especially Julianne Moore. Worth a watch, but count on some serious seat fidgeting during the 3+ hours you’ll be sitting there.

• Director Brian Lynch (of the still hopefully forthcoming “Big Helium Dog”) has the script for his next production, the “Single greatest fraternity vs. zombie movie ever made”, “Everybody’s Dead”, well underway. We were given a taste and, while we can’t reprint anything or divulge any serious details,it sounds like something we really can’t wait to feast our eyes upon. Quite a few of the characters had work to do in these scenes, and Lynch already has his dream cast named (though no deals have been inked yet, we’ll follow closely). At any rate, the three sections we read painted a pretty wacky picture, funny and bloody as all heck. If we get any more info on the flick at all, or perhaps can divulge a few little secrets along the way, we’ll surely let ya know. With Lynch in contact with us, we’re sure we’ll have something more. Stay tuned. And watch for this one. Let’s hope the ratings board skips this one, cuz the way it’s written, we doubt we’ll see an R rating. Sounds almost like an American “Dead Alive” to us.

• Kevin popped by the web board to refute the Another Universe article we referenced yesterday (rightfully so, since we hadn’t heard of any criticisms towards the content of the show before that, either). Looks like they’re heading to California for the finishing touches. Here’s Kev:

At that point it looks like another one of those famous cutoffs, but I think he got his point across. Good luck to the gang as they head West – Hopefully we’ll have some cool soundbites and/or shots from the series for you to check out soon. We’re dying to see some of this thing.

• Hey, look at this. Two updates in a row. Didn’t even skip a day. Damn we’re good. Actually, we’re just not feeling as lazy as we have been lately. That’s probably it. Anyway, you probably just clicked the ‘ol News Askew link expecting to see the same crap from yesterday, and found this to be a pleasant surprise. So hey, merry christmas. Or something.

Got some updates on the Dogma RC site today of all places. A couple new reviews from the Stomp Tokyo website, as well as an article about protests surrounding Dogma in a new country: Brazil. Be sure and stop over the press area of the RC site for the latest. While we’ve been slacking bigtime on the What’s New section of RC (just got to be a bit much to maintain for the past few weeks), we HAVE been adding new articles and reviews as they show up (though that’s pretty much over, at least until video release). Thanks to Buck and Jeff Stanford for the stuff.

Alright, some newsbites AND some real headlines today, too! Amazing, ain’t it?

• “Total Film” in the UK did a Top 25 Films of the 90’s in their new issue. Clerks, which didn’t even see a large theatrical release there, came in at #23. Here’s the writeup:

• Rolling Stone didn’t select Dogma as one of its Top Ten this year, but it did acknowledge Dogma’s “comic edge” as a runner-up.
• Some more UK news: There’s a feature on the Empire website (http://www.empireonline.co.uk/) called “Dogma Style” with a competition and a few other bits and pieces. Also, in the magazine, there’s a mildly amusing look at Matt and Ben in 50 years time – thanks to a few computer-generated tweaks to some current photos. We’ll post scans if we get ‘em.

• Hey folks. Nice to see ya. Don’t think we’re forgetting about the site or anything. We realize that updates normally happen on a daily basis ’round these parts, but frankly, not too much has been going on to report lately. Adding into that, the vacation time I’d taken this week turned into sick time with a 102+ fever and the shakes and all that fun stuff. Add to that the fact that Chris is working 50+ hour weeks, and you’ve got a couple of webmasters that have just been a little distracted this week. Not to worry, though, we’re doing our best to stay on top of the e-mail for the page. Those of you who shot off some personal mails may hafta wait a couple more days until things are back in order (same for the bill pile that’s stacking up).

Again, as it’s been for the past few weeks it seems (for the most part), we’ve just got a bunch of little NewsBites today. That’s it. Not what you expected from a 2-day hiatus, huh?

• Those of you reading us from over the pond (relative to us, anyway) will be happy to hear that Dogma’s currently slated to arrive on region 2 DVD on July 17, 2000 according to the Region 2 DVD Website.
• Ben Affleck stopped by his web board and made some posts yesterday, including this one, urging folks to pick up the upcoming Premiere Magazine, for which he wrote an article:

• “Desert Blue”, with Askew vet Ethan Suplee is now out on VHS.
• “Dogma” got a mention in an absolutely awful joke on tonight’s episode of “It’s Like, Ya Know…” on ABC. A character read in a newspaper that a man brought his German shepherd to see DOGMA, and is now suing the theatre to get his money back. Hey, ABC – If you need some new writers, we could always use some extra cash.
• Here’s an interesting piece. A reviewer at the Another Universe website says that bigwigs at ABC are complaining that the Clerks animated series is “too adult”. First we’ve heard of anything like that. You can check out his piece HERE.
• Good news for Lions Gate today: Paul G. Allen, Microsoft co-founder and owner of 600 other companies, agreed to invest $33.2 million in Lions Gate Entertainment through his holding company Vulcan Ventures Inc.
• Finally today, Dogma’s up for best movie in an online Wizard poll. You can surf over HERE and cast your vote if ya like.

• DVD Express has “Tail Lights Fade” available for order. In case ya missed it, the release date is 2/22/00. Preorder price is $17.49. We assume that Reel and the other sites will have it soon, if not already.
• The Magic Bag in Ferndale, MI is playing Dogma on 01/06/00 and 01/12/00 and Clerks on 01/19/00 as part of their “Brew and View Movies.” It’s not a bad place to see a movie if you like to smoke and drink while you watch your favorite movies. Surf to their URL for more info.
