  • An April 2nd New York Times article on Hip-Hop found HERE opens with a Dogma mention. Here’s the paragraph pertaining to the flick:
Midway through “Dogma,” Kevin Smith’s unlikely stew of millennial theology and turn-of-the-century pop culture, Loki, the voluble, sociopathic angel of death played by Matt Damon, muses on his shortcomings as a prophet of mass taste. Specifically, he still can’t believe that “E.T.” was the Hollywood blockbuster of the 1980’s, instead of “Krush Groove,” Michael Schultz’s rags-to-riches showbiz parable featuring the rap group Run-D.M.C.

indeMON

  • Those “Indie” trading cards we mentioned a while back are featured in scans online at TNT Roughcut’s website now. You can view Kev’s card and more HERE.
  • Chris Rock is featred in a short lampooning the ill-fated show “God, The Devil, & Bob”. You can find the animated piece on the WB site. Rock’s voice is slated to appear on the big screen in the animated “Osmosis Jones”, and we hope that Bill Murray signs to play the live-action actor whose body the film’s creatures inhabit [Word has it Murray would eat a bad meatball which starts all the problems. Classic stuff].
  • Check out the latest Entertainment Weekly for a review of the Daredevil: Visionaries trade paperback. We’ll post a transcript as soon as we receive one or their website posts it.
  • Oni Press will be releasing a collection of Clerks comic artist Jim Mahfood’s “Stupid Comics,” his newspaper strip, along with brand new comics exclusive to the collection.

Towson Appearance TONIGHT!

April 3rd @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Jason Birzer

  • We’ve been getting tons of mail on this the past few days (nothing like waiting ’til the last minute, ‘eh?), but we’ve finally got the information on the appearance tonight: It’s in a building called Stephen’s Hall (on York Road), starts at 7:00 PM, free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30. Sorry this information comes so late in the game, but it seems that it was next to impossible to find anyone at Towson that could actually share this much insight. Have fun!

Latest From Kevin…

  • Well it’s nothing major, just a check-in to let everyone know he’s still alive and waiting for something to happen as much as we are. Here’s the latest from Kevin himself:
State of the Union

The Union’s good.

Thanks to all at UNCW for the show the other night. I had a good time. You were all very gracious and southern-like.

For those who follow such things, I’m speaking in Baltimore tomorrow, at Towson. It’s not that far from Jersey, I understand (two to three hours), so if you’re in the area (or live near Baltimore) and you’d like to check out the show, pop on by. I don’t think it’s limited solely to college-folk (as these things rarely are).

It’s awfully slow around here lately, isn’t it? After two years of nonstop hullabaloo, it’s kind of tepid. Short of the video release of ‘Dogma’, it doesn’t feel like much is going on. I Gotta give you guys something new and exciting to talk about. In fact, I’ll go work on that right now.

Commentary

  • Hi everyone, and welcome to another week of excitement here at News Askew! We spiced things up a bit with the weekend April Fool’s Day joke, which was a blast (By the way, if you missed it, you can still view the “modified” page HERE, and a page full of responses we got concerning the joke HERE).

In addition to that, we’ve got a new post from Kevin today which acknowledges the distrubingly quiet times in View Askew-land lately, with a promise to change all that soon. He also mentions the Towson show tonight (Which we FINALLY have a bit of info on, sorry for not getting it here sooner).

Other than that little chunk of news, though, just a couple newsbites and we’ll call it a day. Here we go:
