• Well folks, it happened so fast we didn’t even see it happen. Vulgarthon tickets went on sale at 1 PM today, and by a few minutes after 3 PM, they were gone. Kevin took some calls and dropped by the web board to update everyone on the sales:

We’ll of course be in attendance, probably the folks sitting on the floor or standing amongst the crowd, since it’s best to give the fans the seats rather than take 2 of them up ourselves. We’ll see ya there. Looking forward to meeting all of you. Congrats again to all who made it in.

• Howdy folks…We’re still around though there hasn’t been too much to chat about lately. Things have been going smoothly around here, but well. It’s great to see View Askew 5 getting so much press. There’s more below. “Almost Famous” is going wide today and will most certainly be number one this weekend. It’s a great film, with a ton of perfect performances, an endearing story, and some memorable music. Way to go, Lee. That being said, not much else too talk about. TV’s been stale with the new seasons starting later and later every year (most of the good new shows aren’t kicking in until October or even November, for crying out loud).

In Askew news, mostly Lee type stuff and a View Askew 5 story that made the rounds…We’re sure that Vulgarthon is gonna make some major news on the web next week, so stay tuned for that. The official Vulgarthon2K site is also now running strong, not as a part of News Askew but rather its very own address. This will allow the webmasters to put the maximum time into it and not bog us down with a ton to keep up with. We’ve got the info just below. And now, the news:

• The new official Vulgarthon 2K Website has now moved to its final home at Film 411. Be sure and drop by, as this will be THE place to plan your hotel stay, see who else is attending (once tickets go on sale), where the parties and gatherings before and after the event are happening, and more. The last Vulgarthon site had all that, web boards, chatrooms, and more. The Marksman and Darth Dobbin have designed and will maintain this site, and News Askew is not housing the info here, but partnering with the website. This way, we can go about our regular news routine, and they can be much more specific about stuff. We WILL still cover all the major Vulgarthon 2000 news right here, but if you want directions, maps, or to link up with other fans making the trek to Red Bank, the V2K official site is the place to be.

• Nothing too new here in this one, but it’s nice to see View Askew 5 getting more press. According to this article, no one has officially signed on yet, but we’re pretty sure Affleck and Lee aren’t going to turn this one down. Rumor has it that Chris Rock had so much fun on Dogma that he’ll be back as well, only as a different character from Rufus. Should be very cool. Here’s the Showbiz article:

• Most likely due to “Almost Famous” taking off so well, Jason Lee’s all over the place in the papers or on the tube. Here’s some various Lee bits for ya today:

• A couple chances to catch some of Jason’s flicks on your TV this weekend: “Mumford” will be playing on STARZ this Saturday night at 8:00 PM. Comedy Central will be airing “Kissing a Fool” this Sunday at 8:00 PM EST.

  Magical Music Hours: I don’t go out much–like to bars with friends. My wife, Carmen [Llywellyn Lee] might go out on a Friday night with her friends. I’ll be at home in my recording studio working on music. If I have a choice between a crowded bar and working on music, the choice is obvious for me.

  Saturday Driver: Saturday during the day, we always take drives. We like to go to this place called Dagwood’s on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica to get pizza and subs and stuff. Since we live on Wilshire near downtown, we take Wilshire all the way. Driving is just a way of being outside, and it becomes an activity all its own. We really want to buy a house, so we’ll drive around and look at open houses. And I have that new Honda roadster, the S2000, so I’ll take that out every once in a while.

  Another Spin: On Saturday, we’ll probably also go to the movies, see our friends and stop off at a record store and buy records. I’ve been collecting vinyl for a while. I’ll talk my wife into letting me do that for an hour at Moby Disk, Vinyl Fetish or Record Surplus. There’s a big selection of jazz and spoken word at Record Surplus–stuff that’s great for sampling.

  Paint the Town: On Sunday, we might go to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where we’re members, or to the Getty. We used to go to LACMA on Friday nights where you can sit outside and the jazz bands play. And the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena also has a really great collection. I’m also really into architecture. My favorite architects are Henry and Charles Greene and Frank Lloyd Wright. We’ve been to the Gamble House, where you can get a tour and then go into the book store and get a map of Pasadena and drive around the streets and see these houses.

• Last night on a radio show called Rockline, Cameron Crowe stated that he is a big Jason Lee fan, citing how much he enjoyed his performances in Kevin’s movies. Crowe also revealed that he’s a big Kevin Smith fan. Very cool to hear.
• Some new and old pics of Lee (from Almost Famous and before) can be found at Lee World.

• Kevin reports that Jeff Anderson (Randal from Clerks) is getting ready to shoot his own directorial debut, from his own script, this January. Congrats to Jeff on the big achievement!

• Newsarama reports that Matt Wagner is doing the covers for issues 1-12 of Green Arrow. Wizard elaborates:

• Almost Famous is getting some of the best reviews for a flick ever, in fact, it’s tough to find someone who doesn’t like this flick. The Ottawa Citizen has an article on Crowe that contains a new shot of the Stillwater band, featuring Lee, of course. Check out the piece HERE.
• If you’re interested in reading stuff from a Kevin Smith fan’s point of view, FanFiction’s got a section devoted to texts inspired by Kev’s flicks, written by the fans. Lots of reading material there for slow news days like today.

• We’re not sure how long it’s been around, but now that the flick’s been sold, we want to make sure that you know this. The official View Askew site has put up a Vulgar site (including some nice photos, details about the film, cast & crew etc.) There’s no official link at the View Askew homepage yet, but you can get to it directly using this URL: http://www.viewaskew.com/vulgar/.

We’ve also been sent a copy of the official Lions Gate press release announcing their purchase of the flick for distribution. It’s in Microsoft Word format, which most of you should have no problem reading or converting. Click HERE to get a copy.

• Jason Lee’s fictional band Stillwater from “Almost Famous” is up for best Fake Band in their online poll. Stillwater is running against the likes of Spinal Tap and 2Gether and is not faring well. (It had 0% of the votes.) We’re sure it’ll take off once more folks see the flick, though. Surf HERE to cast your vote.
• On today’s final Jeopardy, the answer was “On May 16, 2000 the 2 writers of this 1998 movie joined a rally to get the janitors at Harvard a raise.” All of the contestants got it right. We assume you would have, too.

By the way, Dark Horizons is also running a piece on the flick today with similar info on Lee and Affleck, and also mentions that Joey Lauren Adams has a role written in, though Kevin’s unsure whether she’ll take it or not.
