- Hey folks, it’s been a while since there was a commentary post so it seemed like a good time for one. Don’t miss the new poll topic, which should garner some very interesting results. With the news that both Jay & Bob and American Pie 2 are sharing a release date sticking around, it’s going to be interesting to see what transpires. It stills seems like one of those films is going to have to move, the question is, who, and to which new date? Other than that, it’s finally feeling like spring outside, thus the chance to actually get away from the PC, spend some time outside and, on days like today, mow the friggin grass. More From Kevin On J&SBSB Running Time…
- Naturally, when Kevin mentioned the film currently ran 2:15, there were some questions. Here’s a followup from him regarding the cuts and their desired final running time:
Just a number we’re shooting for. As a general rule of thumb, a good comedy should run closer to ninety minutes than two hours – particularly in our current, short-attention-span climate.
Less is more, as they say.
We’re probably only looking at about 30 to 45 minutes of cut stuff, when the time comes for the DVD.
But, hey – let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Vincent On ABP Info, Dogma SE Details…
- Vincent’s been answering questions over at the web board regarding the DVD for A Better Place, and it sounds like it’s progressing quite nicely:
Kevin and Scott videotaped (well, actually Malcolm taped it) not one but THREE takes of the A BETTER PLACE introduction, and rather than choose which one to use we’re going to give the viewer the option of which one to watch.
All of the elements are now finally in the hands of the authoring facility in Los Angeles, and they’re starting work on the DVD screens/navigation and authoring next week.
He’s also commented on a few of the burning questions reagarding materials on the Dogma SE. First, will that crappy generic music need to remain in the Dogma trailer like it was on the standard edition?
I haven’t seen the trailer on the new disc, but I’m guessing it’s probably the sucky new music. There must have been some sort of rights issues that led them to replace that music to begin with, and I doubt they were able to clear said issues up in the time since the release of the bare-bones DVD and the new one.
And how about the bleeps in the disc’s commentary tracks?
It’s not “bad” at all- I’ve already explained that as a part of the deal wherein Columbia Tri-Star licensed the rights to DOGMA from Beauna Vista Home Video, Disney and none of it’s affiliates could be mentioned in relation to DOGMA. So, we had to bleep any references to Disney of Miramax, and specifially JUST the words “Disney”, “Miramax”, “Harvey”, “Bob”, and “Weinstien”.

- Here’s a bit of casting information for J&SBSB that you might have missed. This appeared on the movies.go.co website:
Cameos galore. Carrie Fisher and Shannon Doherty have both filmed scenes for the film. Probably the most obscure appearance in the film happened totally by accident. Kevin Smith reported on his website that while filming at The Quick Stop which made him famous, Thomas, the roofer who discussed labor issues aboard The Death Star in Clerks, just happened to be buying milk. Smith had him to reprise his role in a “subtle but full-circle cameo.”
- Mallrats wins another DVD award, this time it’s number 5 of IGN’s Top 10 movies improved by DVD. Read the article HERE.
- If you’re a fan of local New Jersey music, like some of the bands used on the original Clerks soundtrack, check out an internet radio station called Blow Up Radio, a site dedicated to playing NJ bands, signed and unsigned.
- Finally today, we almost forgot to mention…EW’s summer preview has VULGAR listed under their “Also In August” column: The text reads: “A young man finds fame as a transvestite clown named VULGAR in the debut film from Kevin Smith protÃĩgÃĩ Bryan Johnson”.
