  • In case you haven’t been watching our countdown ticker, you may not know that “An Evening With Kevin Smith” is due out on DVD in a couple of weeks. We’re hoping to have an advanced review up for ya soon, but in the meantime, here’s what the IMDB ran today regarding the disc:
The Kevin Smith Lectures — On DVD

Controversial director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) says that his real “bread and butter” comes from appearing on the college lecture circuit. His remarks during question-and-answer sessions at colleges have proved so provocative that several of his lectures are due to be released on DVD on Dec. 17 under the title An Evening With Kevin Smith (Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment). In an interview with Video Store magazine, Smith said that after a recent showing of Chasing Amy, “a guy came up to me after it was all over and said, ‘The movie’s fine, but the Q&A is brilliant.’”

  • What happens when comedian Steve Belanger spends a day as an extra on the set of Jersey Girl? Well, he creates a parody film to celebrate the day! The short, called “Chasing Kevin” (not to be confused with the Scott Kramer short of the same name that’s been around a few years) can be viewed in Quicktime at his official site. Keep in mind, though, it’s a HUGE download (20+ megs) and it may take a while depending on the amount of News Askew traffic.
  • More multimedia: It’s hard to find online these days, so if you’ve yet to see the “Build Me Up, Buttercup” video from Mallrats (featuring Jay & Silent Bob), you can watch it HERE. Keep in mind, the video’s in MUCH better quality on the Mallrats Special Edition DVD.
  • Australia’s Empire Magazine has named ViewAskew.com as one of its Six sites of the month, and also celebrates Holden’s famously improvised “It’s Your Birthday” dance in Chasing Amy as one of their Top Six Dances in film.
