As always, release dates are subject to change, though we can only assume that, as of today, this is the release date that Miramax has planned for the film. Some Great New Auctions Askew Items!
- We’re late getting these up this week, but there’s STILL time to get your bids in on some AMAZING new items in Auctions Askew — Our personal favorite this week has to be that Mooby restaraunt kit, great stuff to display somewhere. There’s also a rare signed poster, t-shirt, Chasing Amy pack of goodies, and more. Every item’s worth having in your View Askew collection, so be sure and stop by to look at this stuff up close. As always, best of luck with those bids.
Kevin Sits Down With Jay Leno…
- Yes, after much anticipation, we’re happy to announce that full-length Quicktime and Windows Media versions of Kevin’s most recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno are now available! Kevin appeared as a sit-down guest with Jay on last Friday’s show, mainly there to plug his “Evening with Kevin Smith” DVD, but, as always, things got a little goofy – You can watch and listen to Kevin tell a story regarding his Christmas gift from Leno, talk about the filming of Jersey Girl (with “Beniffer”), the press, buying Ben’s house, and a lot more. The reactions of Renee Zellweger are worth the price of admission alone.

- The exlcusive Movie Poop Shoot coverage of Jersey Girl is back this week, with a brand new interview with super producer Scott Mosier. There’s a lot of new behind the scenes photos, and some fantastic quotes from Scott — Don’t miss this one. Watch for more exclusive coverage at the ‘Shoot real soon.
- Wireimage has some photos of Kevin at the “Gangs of New York” premiere (from December) and the Golden Globes (from January).
- This year’s Project Greenlight winners have been announced, according to The Hollywood Reporter:
Kyle Rankin and Efram Potelle were selected over the weekend in Park City as the winning directors for the second installment of “Project Greenlight,” HBO and Miramax Films’ reality TV series and film-directing contest. The award-winning script was “The Battle of Shaker Heights,” by Erica Beeney, which beat out 7,200 other submissions. “Heights” is now slated to head into production March 10, with a budget of at least $1 million. As in “Greenlight”’s first season, Miramax will guarantee a theatrical release. The series kicks off in June on HBO.
- And finally today, Mike Portnoy, drummer for the band Dream Theater, called Kevin his “Hero of the Day” with this quote at his official website:
I am thoroughly enjoying the “Evening With Kevin Smith” DVD set. He is as engaging and entertaining with his stories and humour in these Q&A sessions as his dialogue is in all of his films.
Commentary…
- Hey folks…Got caught up in the Superbowl fever for the past few days, hence the silence here at NA — Had a very busy weekend with a lot of friends in town, lots of booze consumed, and the like…You know, the usual stuff for a Superbowl weekend. Anyway, the game’s over now and the reality of working on Monday morning is setting in…Not too pleasant a thought. Still, it seemed like a good time to clean out the mailbag, check out some scoops, and throw an update up for everyone to enjoy as you’re back at your desks at the start of another work week. Let’s see what we got today:
Vote For Kev In The Wizard Fan Awards!
- It’s probably available all over the place, but we’re receiving reports that copies of “Superman: The 10 Cent Adventure” feature a fan awards ballot which you can use to send in your picks for the best in comics for the year. Again, we expect the Wizardworld website and issues of Wizard itself will have this stuff as well (if not already) but we wanted to make you aware of this category that Kevin’s up for:
Favorite Writer:
-Brian Micheal Bendis (Ultimate Spider-Man, Daredevil)
-Jeph Loeb (Batman, Spider-Man: Blue)
-Mark Miller (Ultimate X-Man, Ultimates
-Kevin Smith (Green Arrow, Spider-Man/Black Cat)
-J. Micheal Straczynski (Amazing Spider-Man, Rising Stars)
The deadline is March 1st, 2003, and the address to send the ballots to us is:
Wizard Fan Awards
c/o Wizard Entertainment
P.O. Box 118, Congers, NY, 10920-0118
So, if you want a CHEAP ballot, pick yourself up “Superman: The 10 Cent Adventure” — Otherwise we’re sure you’ll have no trouble finding one in a copy of Wizard, or possibly online. Spread the word, we’d love to see Kevin win a much-deserved award for his comic writing this year.
View Askew Inaction Figures: New Photos!
- We still consider these little guys the coolest View Askew collectibles to arrive in a long while, possibly ever — And UK Toyfair had them on display. Action-Figure.com has some exclusive new photos of them, in all their inactive glory. Let’s hope these guys sell really well so they can keep making more. We dig ‘em.

- Kevin’s Jay Leno appearance should be available online at the View Aske site tomorrow — So if ya missed it, stay tuned, we’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready to roll. Kevin was there to plug the “Evening With…” DVD, and also told a story about Jay giving him a Christmas present. Look for the full piece tomorrow.
- Here’s a scooper who sent in a View Askew reference they caught onstage in New York City:
The show itself was very funny (went because a friend of a friend’s in the cast) and the artwork for their ad is particularly funny, www.tess-last-night.com.
- The Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA is apperently doing a showing of Clerks & Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. The info on their site lists: “New Movie Monday” – Clerks, with Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back — MON 2/3 10:00 21+ $4. We’re actually pretty close to Lancaster here, in Central PA, so we might even head in for this one. If it’s over 21, it could be a great opportunity to have a few beers and watch the flick (maybe some of you even wanna break out that Jay & Bob drinking game if you’re feeling adventurous on a Monday!) If any NA readers are planning to head into this one, let us know. We’ll see ya back here with more news tomorrow.

- More positive press for the excellent “Evening With Kevin Smith” DVD: The Lantern reviews the disc here, stating “‘An Evening with Kevin Smith’ is one of the funniest DVDs to hit stories in a while and should be on the wish list of anyone who has laughed at one of Smith’s films.”
- Click above to read a scan of Mobile Entertainment magazine’s monthly column “Artist Driven”. This month’s edition features some nice new quotes from Kevin on satellite radio, road trips, and more.
