Commentary…

January 26th @ 11:18 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Hey folks…Got caught up in the Superbowl fever for the past few days, hence the silence here at NA — Had a very busy weekend with a lot of friends in town, lots of booze consumed, and the like…You know, the usual stuff for a Superbowl weekend. Anyway, the game’s over now and the reality of working on Monday morning is setting in…Not too pleasant a thought. Still, it seemed like a good time to clean out the mailbag, check out some scoops, and throw an update up for everyone to enjoy as you’re back at your desks at the start of another work week. Let’s see what we got today:

Vote For Kev In The Wizard Fan Awards!

January 26th @ 11:18 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • It’s probably available all over the place, but we’re receiving reports that copies of “Superman: The 10 Cent Adventure” feature a fan awards ballot which you can use to send in your picks for the best in comics for the year. Again, we expect the Wizardworld website and issues of Wizard itself will have this stuff as well (if not already) but we wanted to make you aware of this category that Kevin’s up for:
“Let the Voting Begin! The 10th Annual Wizard Fan Awards are here and it’s time for you, the comics fans, to determine what’s the bestest of the best in the comics world from the year 2002! Each little box below represents a different category. Each category contains five nominees determined through a WizardWorld.com poll.”

Favorite Writer:

-Brian Micheal Bendis (Ultimate Spider-Man, Daredevil)
-Jeph Loeb (Batman, Spider-Man: Blue)
-Mark Miller (Ultimate X-Man, Ultimates
-Kevin Smith (Green Arrow, Spider-Man/Black Cat)
-J. Micheal Straczynski (Amazing Spider-Man, Rising Stars)

The deadline is March 1st, 2003, and the address to send the ballots to us is:

Wizard Fan Awards
c/o Wizard Entertainment
P.O. Box 118, Congers, NY, 10920-0118

So, if you want a CHEAP ballot, pick yourself up “Superman: The 10 Cent Adventure” — Otherwise we’re sure you’ll have no trouble finding one in a copy of Wizard, or possibly online. Spread the word, we’d love to see Kevin win a much-deserved award for his comic writing this year.

View Askew Inaction Figures: New Photos!

  • We still consider these little guys the coolest View Askew collectibles to arrive in a long while, possibly ever — And UK Toyfair had them on display. Action-Figure.com has some exclusive new photos of them, in all their inactive glory. Let’s hope these guys sell really well so they can keep making more. We dig ‘em.

View Askew NewsBites™

  • Kevin’s Jay Leno appearance should be available online at the View Aske site tomorrow — So if ya missed it, stay tuned, we’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready to roll. Kevin was there to plug the “Evening With…” DVD, and also told a story about Jay giving him a Christmas present. Look for the full piece tomorrow.
  • Here’s a scooper who sent in a View Askew reference they caught onstage in New York City:
Saw a new musical this past weekend called “Tess’ Last Night,” and there was a mute character in it, who was constantly nicknamed things like Marcel and Chatty Kathy (others too, but those are the ones I can remember). When the mute ultimately succeeds, another character says to him, “Nice work, Silent Bob.” And it got a huge laugh, so there you go. Even jaded city theatergoers know Kevin’s films.

The show itself was very funny (went because a friend of a friend’s in the cast) and the artwork for their ad is particularly funny, www.tess-last-night.com.

  • The Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA is apperently doing a showing of Clerks & Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. The info on their site lists: “New Movie Monday” – Clerks, with Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back — MON 2/3 10:00 21+ $4. We’re actually pretty close to Lancaster here, in Central PA, so we might even head in for this one. If it’s over 21, it could be a great opportunity to have a few beers and watch the flick (maybe some of you even wanna break out that Jay & Bob drinking game if you’re feeling adventurous on a Monday!) If any NA readers are planning to head into this one, let us know. We’ll see ya back here with more news tomorrow.
