  • According to the all-knowing Internet Movie Database, “Comic Book: The Movie” will be released on June 7, 2003 in the US.
  • Kevin received a mention on Tech TV’s “The Screensavers” earlier this week. Apparently an audience member had a View Askew shirt on, and the hosts mentioned they wanted to get Kevin as a guest on the program. Kevin already appeared in July of last year, so we assume they just want him on again.
  • Don’t forget to order your Jay & Silent Bob bookends from the Stash! Our sets arrived last week and they are just fantastic. The craftsmanship that went into them is amazing, they’re solid, detailed, and just look damn funny up on the shelf. You will be very pleased.
  • “Love 101” (featuring Jeff Anderson in a supporting role) will debut on VHS and DVD on August 26, 2003.
  • Sometimes we’re just compelled to share something that’s not even Askew-related, but just well…Too bizarre not to pass on. This one you may have seen before, but apparently this website allows you to make your own rock video or workout tape featuring…A cow. It’s just too bizarre not to try. Enjoy, and we’ll catch ya next time.

  • Just a few more newsbites for ya today. First off, Best Buy stores have quite a good bargain if you need to complete your View Askew DVD collections (or have backups for the ones you wear out in case of emergency): You can get Clerks (Miramax Collectors Edition), Chasing Amy (Criterion Edition) and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (Miramax Collectors Edition), all the best versions available, for $14.99 each, or, even better 2 for $20! There’s more titles available to help complete the 2 for $20 deal, these are just the View Askew ones. But at $10 a DVD, that’s as cheap as they’ll ever be.

  • Looks like Kevin will appear in Mark Hamill’s directorial debut, “Comic Book: The Movie”. It looks like it’ll be going straight to DVD at some point, but no release deate is mentioned. Read all about the movie at the official site and check above for a new photo of Kevin and Mark while working together on the film!
  • Because it seems like we can’t go a month without one…Something Awful has another Clerks poster parody up.

  • And finally today, reality TV fans: Here’s your team to cheer for in the upcoming Summer season of CBS’s “The Amazing Race”. Yep, that’s right, go Steve/Dave! Seee yaaaa….

  • By far, today’s most POPULAR scoop: Widely read online comic “Penny Arcade” co-creator Gabriel mentions Kevin in a recent interview as the person he’d love to see direct a Penny Arcade film:
HomeLAN – If there was an animated Penny Arcade movie or TV show planned what actors would you like to see portray you?
Gabriel – I don’t know about specific actors. I never really think about that. I do know that I would like to see Kevin Smith direct it.

Read the entire interview HERE.

  • And just this one last bit: Wizard’s ToyFare website has a “Blank Shots” contest where anyone can submit a “script” for a Big Shots scene that is precreated. This one pokes a little fun at Kev. Enjoy, we’ll catch ya with more soon.

Goin’ Back To Cali, Cali, Cali…

  • We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be making another News Askew field trip later on this month…We’re headed into (hopefully) sunny California for a few days later this month to check out Jersey Girl! We look forward to checking out the film, as well as sharing as much as we can (without spoiling anything, of course) with you, our faithful readers. So watch for that excitement later on this month! Also, since we’re swapping coasts for a few days, we figured we’d try and find some cool stuff to check out while we’re in town, so if anyone’s got any recommendations for stuff that might be cool too (or if any of you want to invite us to some crazy L.A.-style parties or anything) drop us a line or throw it in the talkbacks. California, here we come!

  • DVD Angle have posted their review of the upcoming Daredevil DVD. By the way, someone send us one of these! FOX, you out there?
  • Mallrats will see a re-release on DVD on June 3rd, sites are reporting. We believe this is the exact same DVD that is already out there, so if you already bought one, don’t worry, you’re still up to date. Just looks like a newer pressing.
  • On the today’s daily crossword (Flexicon) on www.boxerjam.com, one of the clues read: “Chasing ____” (Ben Affleck film).
  • A local Richmond, VA DJ is apparently a big View Askew fan, and lists the site (as well as all of the films) as his #1!
  • More rare cast/crew items from Mallrats are up at eBay: Take this crew shirt for example. Check the seller’s other items for a lot more. Prices are great too, so good luck and happy bidding. Not our auctions though, so as always, buy at your own risk. Later!

  • Well, here’s yet another reason to go to Philly if you weren’t already planning on being at the comicon at the end of this month — Exclusive Black & White Randal & Dante inaction figures! Of course as a tribute to the film stock used in Clerks, these are the same inaction design as currently available, though in glorious black & white. They will ONLY be available at WizardWorld Philly! We’re gonna see if we can get our hands on a set ahead of time to check out, but if not, say hi to us while we’re waiting in line to pick ours up. These are a must have, for sure. The latest Wizard magazine has the photo and the announcement (click above).

  • Maxim Magazine is currently having a “hometown hotties” contest, where local women send in photos and stats, and readers choose these favorites. You’ve gotta subscribe to the magazine to see the full list at Maximonline.com, however of key note is Laura from Chicago, who under the category of “Favorite Movie/Actor” lists: “Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” and under “Favorite Sport/Team” picks: “Hockey, Philly Flyers”. Can’t help but wonder how she’d feel about View Askew webmasters…
  • Vancouver-based all-news radio station, News1130, reports that a Clerks-inspired hockey game apparently took place up in the Great White North recently:
Canucks Fever Hits YVR
A contagious disease has hit Vancouver International Airport, but don’t worry – it’s not SARS – just a little case of Hockey fever. As the city gets ready for game four of the Vancouver-Minnesota playoff series, YVR held it’s first ever “Canucks appreciation day”. The festivities included free airbrushed team logos, a superfan contest and an appearance from team mascot “Fin”. The highlight for most people though was something that looked like it belonged in Kevin Smith’s “Clerks” movie. A couple dozen employees took some time off the job, grabbed their sticks and jerseys and had a game of street hockey on the roof of the airport’s parkade – which hit a minor snag the minute someone blasted the ball over the edge.

You all have a GREAT weekend! It’s finally feeling like Spring here in Pennsylvania, time to get out and have some fun! Enjoy.
