  • Need a good laugh? Here’s a very amusing e-mail recently sent to The Tonight Show demanding that Kevin be banned from doing his ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS segments:
To Whom It May Concern,

I am a representative/agent writing on behalf of Vice-President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynn. Included below is a petition of thousands of hardworking Americans who want to see filmmaker Kevin Smith banned from the Tonight Show. To put it mildly, we are outaged that Jay Leno allows the anti-Catholic, vulgar mouthed filmmaker Kevin Smith to appear on his show as a “Roadside Attraction”. Kevin Smith is the maker of films like Clerks and Chasing Amy where he promotes promiscuity, homosexuality, anti-American sentiment and the destruction of the Catholic church. In Smith’s film “Dogma” he calls Jesus Christ “a ni***r”, makes the lead character the daughter of Christ (suggesting Christ had children!) and makes fun of religious people everywhere. We demand that you ban Kevin Smith from every appearing on the tonight show again. If you do not then we will urge the President not to appear on the Tonight this upcoming election year. We will also do our ! best to convince sponsors of the Tonight Show to drop their sponsorship of the Tonight Show. Kevin Smith is not even a popular celebrity, so Jay Leno can drop Kevin from the show without losing any ratings. We would like to be discreet about this warning to NBC. We do not plan to go the press…yet. And if someone at NBC tries to make this an issue with the White House then we will deny that we sent this email. We hope that this nice, subtle warning reaches the right person soon so we will not have to resort to an ugly showdown with NBC. We are asking for a simple favor. We have always been gracious to NBC and the Tonight Show so I think Mr.Leno owes us this one favor. Please do the right thing and ban Kevin Smith from the Tonight Show. Included below is a sample from a petition collected by Mr. Cheney’s wife Lynn of Americans who watch the tonight show. They also want to see the anti-catholic Kevin Smith banned from the Tonight Show. They have promised on this petition t! o boycott NBC and its sponsors if Jay Leno doesn’t ban Kevin Smith from the Tonight Show.

Sincerely,

Dick Cheney

Vice President of the United States of America

“God Bless America and mother Liberty!”

  • Kevin will be appearing in the next “20 Questions” column of Playboy Magazine. Now you’ll be able to say you really buy the magazine for the articles…

  • And finally, here’s a little sidebar from the current issue of Entertainment Weekly (#753) comparing JERESEY GIRL to the state of New Jersey.

  • For those that play on the Hollywood Stock Exchange, The Green Hornet stock is very low now. Currently at $10.13 per share, this is a steal as this stock is sure to go very high, especially as production and the release dates get closer. With the announcement all over the media, the stock has gained 39% since Wednesday and is climbing very fast.
  • Here’s a story about Green Hornet with some creative casting options listed at the end.
  • Zap2it.com ran this little story about Kevin’s upcoming appearance on the CBS sitcom “Yes, Dear”:

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) – Oh, those crazy “Yes, Dear” guys. Wherever Greg (Anthony Clark) and Jimmy (Mike O’Malley) go, they just seem to run into celebrities. At the beginning of March, a visit to a Lakers’ game leads to a run-in with former Governor Gray Davis and later in the month, on Monday, March 22, writer-director-Silent Bob Kevin Smith will play himself.

When Greg skips his studio’s big movie premiere, Jimmy steals his credentials and hits the red carpet. There, he runs afoul of Smith, the film’s director. Confirming the long-held theory that “Yes, Dear” exists in an alternate universe, Jimmy gets in trouble by insulting Smith’s recent inspirational war movie.

While Smith may not actually have an inspirational war movie on his resume, he does have a movie coming out in March. “Jersey Girl,” starring publicity-shy former couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, was scheduled to hit theatres on Friday, March 19, but has been pushed back a week.

  • AICN’s Harry Knowles chimes in of the whole Green Hornet deal right here.

  • And finally today, this little item was recently spotted in the Space Mountain gift shop as Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I guess she wasn’t so innocent after all…

  • We’ve just learned that a new Kevin appearance has been added at EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY in GREENVILLE, NC on April the 5th. We’ve got details on the way, but mark those calendars now.

And speaking of Q&A, full information, including ticket prices, is now avaialble at the Roy Thompson Hall website regarding the Toronto Q&A. We assume that the prices are in them there Canadian dollars, though that means it’ll be cheaper in US. Always a big win. Looks like you can get ‘em right at the site, too. Hurry before they’re history.

  • IMDB PeopleNews reports in on
Kevin Smith: Money Back If Dissatisfied

Hollywood director Kevin Smith is so confident his latest movie Jersey Girl is a masterpiece, he’s offering a ticket refund to anyone dissatisfied with it. Smith, who directs Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez in the film, claims Affleck has given the performance of his life in the forthcoming movie. But he does admit to worrying about how the critical and commercial mauling given to the ex-couple’s last film, Gigli, will affect the box-office takings of Jersey Girl. Smith says, “After Gigli, I was, like, ‘Oh man – our jobs just got much harder.’ But it’s not Gigli 2: Bennifer Strikes Back.

We’re a comeback picture. Affleck has never been as good as he is here. If you’re not satisfied, I’d be willing to stand at the door of theaters and be like, ‘You don’t have to pay.’”

  • In the latest issue of Game Informer, (#131) there’s a description of a game called “Killer 7”. This game features a man with split personalities. One of these personalities just so happens to be named Kevin Smith. The description reads:
“Although he has no relationship to Silent Bob, he does indeed move in the shadows. Since he is ultra-sensitive to light, he prefers to move in the shadows. He also has infrared vision in total darkness. He performs stealth kills, and is the only character that doesn’t use a firearm.”
  • Kevin shows up in a little snippet in this month’s Premiere Magazine (March 2004). Click the snippet to read it. We’re not TOTALLY sure that the project sequence is still staying that way, though last we heard officially, it was. Although, with this BIG NEWS on the horizon, anything can happen…

  • Those of you fine folks in Europe will be pleased to read this update from Previews on the R2 release of the “Evening With…” DVD:

  • Riley’s one of the coolest chicks we know, because she likes to rent out an entire movie theater on her birthday and watch a View Askew film on the big screen! If you’re in or near Brunswick, Maine, and want to join her for the always enjoyable MALLRATS on February 22nd, send her an email. Last year, she did Clerks and it was a blast. • The Kenny Gordon Foundation website has set up a page dedicated to the Jersey Girl screening, taking place in New York City, Thursday, March 4th at 6:30pm, to benefit the foundation. Attendees will get to see the film a coool 15 days early, AND attend an exclusive after-party with Kevin and the film’s stars. Ticket prices have yet to be announced, though we’re sure at any price, they’ll go fast. Here’s the details:
The Kenny Gordon Foundation 2004 Fundraiser Screening of “Jersey Girl” and Exclusive After-Party

Hosted by Ben Affleck, Jon Gordon, Kevin Smith, Liv Tyler & Patrick Whitesell

Thursday, March 4th at 6:30pm

We are currently working on our second benefit to follow last December’s extremely successful fundraiser which premiered the film “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”, hosted by Jonathan Gordon, Matt Damon, and George Clooney. It was an incredible evening that raised over $225,000 for the KGF.

Reebok, Sprite, KMX, and the Manhattan Mortgage Company generously sponsored the December 2002 event. If you are interested in becoming a corporate sponsor, click here http://www.kennygordonfoundation.org/sponsorships.html.

This year’s event, which will take place on March 4th, will be a premiere of Kevin Smith’s film, “Jersey Girl”, starring Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, George Carlin, Jason Biggs, and Jennifer Lopez. Smith will co-host the event along with Gordon, Affleck, Tyler, and Patrick Whitesell. The screening will be followed by an exclusive after-party with the director and stars and feature a raffle and silent auction showcasing one of a kind items and packages. Click here http://www.kennygordonfoundation.org/prize.html to see a list of last year’s prizes.

You’ll love Jersey Girl anywhere you see it this year, but if you want to attend the cream of the crop of screenings, this is the one to see. We’ll have more details here soon. Note: The corporate sponsorship links do get you seats into the show, so talk to your companies about making a donation AND get yourself a seat.

Titles include “Clerks,” “Chasing Amy,” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” We assume you already bought copies of this stuff, but they make great gifts (though we still say getting signed ones from the Stash is the first order of business, it never hurts to have a spare).

  • Kevin now definitely says the BIG NEWS will arrive next week on Wednesday, so he’ll try to get it to us very late Tuesday night, or first thing Wednesday morning. We’ll have it up here ASAP, but if it comes during east coast sleepy time, you may hafta wait until the AM to see it in print here. We’ll do our bestest for ya.
  • That Star tabloid story (it’s a short Q&A with Kevin) on Jersey Girl and the Ben/Jen factor is now available for viewing online HERE. Spoiler warning!
  • In Charlotte, North Carolina newspaper “The Observer” their film columnist praised Chasing Amy (as well as Good Will Hunting) recently in an article about great on-screen chemistries that ‘don’t fit conventional molds,’:
A reader called this week to discuss the lack of chemistry between Nicole Kidman and Jude Law in “Cold Mountain” and to ask which screen couples I thought did have strong romantic connections. We’ve all got our favorite pairs of lovers, from Bogart and Bacall in “To Have and Have Not” to Pitt and Davis in “Thelma and Louise” to Williams and Lane in “The Birdcage.”

So for Valentine’s Day, let me instead recommend four chemistry-filled relationships that don’t fit conventional molds.

1) “Chasing Amy,” the Kevin Smith dramedy in which comic book artist Ben Affleck falls for a woman who believes she’s going to stay a lesbian. Joey Lauren Adams is terrific in the title role; is it coincidence that she’s never gotten another good film?

2) “Good Will Hunting,” in which Affleck and Matt Damon have one of the screen’s closest non-gay male relationships. Affleck’s “sacrifice,” where he turns his math-genius buddy loose so he can soar beyond South Boston, is touching.

The article also goes on to mention Art Carney’s Oscar-winning turn in “Harry and Tonto,” and the Cruise/Hoffman chemistry in “Rain Man”. That does it for us for now, so get out there and party! It’s Friday! Enjoy your weekend.

Kevin’s “Stuff” Stuff…

February 12th @ 9:06 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Joe Roberts, Britt Schramm, III-3, Scotty Xavier Summers, Ripe

  • Kevin shows up in a few places in the March 2004 issue (Carmen Electra’s on the cover), now on newsstands everywhere. Not only do they have the full page article on Page 60, titled “A Guy and His Stuff”, AND a Jersey Girl review…but the inside back cover of the issue features your very own Kevin Smith finger puppet! Definitely an issue that you collectors will want to pick up. Enjoy, but please don’t let us know what you decide to use that finger puppet for. Scans of it all are above, and here’s a couple of the smaller tidbits:
  • [Pg 58 under Hype Movies] Jersey Girl-The Pitch: A successful music promoter with great hair (Affleck) meet a book editor (Lopez) at a party, and the two fall in love and have a daughter. They agree to raise her Catholic and to never, ever mention Gigli. You can’t be to careful.
  • [Same page under On Set] Jersey Girl-Our nerdy roommate Travis gives you an exclusive report from the set of Kevin Smith’s latest movie. A few months after being an extra in Jersey Girl, a picture of my scene popped up on Smith’s web site. But as luck would have it, Jason Biggs was blocking me. Now I have to see the movie and hope that the pie-fucker moves so I can get my face onscreen.

If you click any of that stuff above, don’t miss the Q&A page, it’s one of the best and funniest we’ve read in a while.

  • JoBlo’s got a bunch of new Jersey Girl stills up, so we’ve added them to our ever-growing collection over at Exit 37. Haven’t been there lately? JoBlo’s got them all up on this page at his site if you just wanna see what’s new. So pick a spot, and go check ‘em out!
  • Be sure and check out “Euro Trip” next weekend, in theaters February 20th. Two View Askew alumni are involved with this one: Some of the film’s writing/directing was done by Dave “Thanks For Watching!” Mandel, he of Clerks: TAS and Seinfeld fame — So ya know it’s gotta be hilarious — And Jersey Girl / J&SBSB / Clerks: TAS composer Jim Venable does the score for the flick. Not to mention, Buffy fans get to check out her younger sister (from the show) in various states of undress. Enjoy.
  • Apparently, there’s a page-long interview with Kevin in this week’s Star tabloid. Nothing really new covered, they take the Ben/Jen angle, but it’s a lot of nice Jersey Girl publicity. If anyone’s got a scan or has it keyed in, please pass it on so we can share. We’re strictly “Weekly World News” readers here.
