November 22nd @ 10:37 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Ming

  • They’re back for another BIG week of excitement! Yep, Auctions Askew continues this week with 5 new rare or unique items from the View
Askew vaults. Items, as always, are modeled by the lovely Amy Noble. Apparel rules this week, which includes crew stuff (One of those highly sought
after Jay & Bob crew jackets, French Dogma duds, and the ever-rare Chasing Amy crew tee)…Along with our favorite item of the week, a screen-used scalpel
from “Jay & Bob Strike Back” (wouldn’t your View Askew loving pal just LOVE finding that under the tree on Xmas day? Just don’t try and get on a plane
with it!). Oh, and more holiday and business cards, available nowhere else.

This round of auctions closes a week from today, the 29th. You’ve got plenty of time…But have you the cash to take home the prize? You won’t know ’til
you start placing bids! Lots of luck, all.

  • Uh oh…Is that Jeanette Walls we smell trying to make a story out of nothing again? From today’s MSNBC column of hers
Even pal Kevin Smith couldn’t convince Ben Affleck to join “Degrassi: The Next Generation.”

By Jeannette Walls

Ben Affleck fans – if there are any left – shouldn’t hold their breath waiting to see him on “Degrassi: the Next Generation.”

Affleck’s buddy, director Kevin Smith, had told fans he was trying to get the “Gigli” star to appear in the popular Canadian teen TV show. Affleck, it seems, nixed the idea.

“Affleck, honestly, could use the work right now,” Smith joked to the Edmonton Journal when he announced his efforts to persuade Affleck to do the cameo.
“What better way to reboot your career than starring in a Canadian melodrama?” Smith himself is appearing in three episodes of the show and also persuaded
singer/songwriter Alanis Morissette to appear.

But Affleck apparently thinks that the public has had enough of him for right now. “He was just like, ‘You know what, dude? I’m a little too high profile
right now. I’m trying to scale back,’” Smith told MoviePoop.com. “He was just feeling the burn. It’s been a bad [bleeping] year for him, and he keeps
getting the [bleep] kicked out of him. I’m not gonna add to this dude’s misery right now, where you know the episode would air and people would be like,
‘Affleck winds up in Canadian teen soap opera.’ And they’d somehow tie it into Jennifer Lopez.”

  • This one could be of interest to Project Greenlight fans. Amazon has a listing for the DVD release of
    “Speakeasy” for January 4th. This
is the script that finished second to “Stolen Summer” on Greenlight’s first season. Matt, Ben, and Chris Moore convinced Miramax to finance the runner up
as well. We don’t think it ever got a theatrical release, but it’s finally getting dusted off the shelf.

  • Movies Askew just announced it’s first winning short film, “Rio Peligroso: A Day in the Life of a Legendary Coyote”. You can check out this great short right HERE!

Think you can do better? Well, we’d like to see it, smarty. We’re accepting Round 2 Submissions from now until Dec 12, and the next five finalists will be announced on Dec 15.

  • Here’s a new shot of Jay & Bob in Degrassi action courtesy of the Toronto Star. Naturally, click it for a closer look.

  • And also, a few more photos of Kevin and Jay interacting onstage from Thursday night’s big Q&A appearance in Toronto. It’s great to see these two guys back on stage together again.
  • Comic Book SciFi reports that Drew Struzan (he of that wonderful Mallrats poster art) has postponed his signing (originally scheduled for December 12th) due to possible printing delays with his new book.
  • JoBlo gives thanks for some things in his most recent update, one of which being “Kevin Smith’s decision to return to his roots.” There’s some other fun ones in there as well. A worthy read.

Kevin Says: “Thanks, Canada!”

November 19th @ 6:29 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Cheryl Price, Ian Muttoo

  • Kevin’s got some words coming off of his historic return to Canada last night for a 4-hour Q&A session in Toronto. Early reports coming into News Askew tell us that it was another night of side-splitting entertainment, full of new answers and anecdotes from Kevin, much of which you’ll all get to see on the forthcoming “Evening 2” DVD. Here’s Kevin:
Thanks to all in attendance for an excellent time. Couldn’t have asked for a better Q&A to shoot, really. Out of the four hours, we’ve got at least two hours of solid, disc-worth material. We grab another two in the UK, and “Evening 2” will be a worthy companion piece to her elder brother.

My favorite joke of the night? The shit about my parents fucking. Poignant (for me), and it gave me a few chuckles (particularly because I know Judy).

But I’d like to make an addition to every show, from now on: that guy in the front section with the excellent head for callbacks (the fella who kinda made it all the “Hide Behind a Rock” show). He could be my Andy Richter.

As always, Canada did not disappoint. Much love, girl next door.

We also realize that photos were prohibited, yet a couple of astute News Askew readers managed to get some snaps off anyway (it seems you can’t keep a good fan down these days). So, we’re happy to present your first look at how Kevin (and special guest Jay Mewes) will appear on the disc, along with some wider shots of the minimalistic yet striking set. Enjoy.

TOMORROW: BIG Q&A IN TORONTO!

November 17th @ 9:54 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Yes folks, we hope you’ve got tix, because tomorrow night, at the Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto, it’s time to lay the podium down one more time. That’s
right, dear readers, the film crew for the “Evening 2” DVD will be there for the first of just two sessions recorded of Kevin’s big Q&A for the next disc.
Get yourself immortalized forever on DVD by asking a good (or perhaps, in some sad cases, stupid) question. See Kevin tell a bevy of new, funny, fascinating
tales from the land of Hollywood and beyond. Tomorrow night, Kevin takes the stage for what we expect will be one of the best Q&A’s EVER! We look
forward to your reports and photos, and wish all of you attending the best of times.

Alanis To Cameo In Kevin’s “Degrassi”!

November 17th @ 9:54 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Julien Chabot

  • Well, yet again, in this day and age it seems tough to keep anything secret within the entertainment biz. We’re not sure if this was
intended to go public or not, but CTV news broke the story that that God herself, Alanis Morrissette, will make
a cameo apearence on Degrassi during Kevin’s story arc. Producers were looking for somone to play the principal in “Jay & Bob Go Canadian” for the show,
and Kevin reportedly said “Let me ask my friend Alanis”.

This is all we’ve heard on the story so far, though we imagine it’ll start making the rounds now that it’s out. Or, should we say, “oot”. And don’t
forget, Canada: Only one more day until the big Q&A TOMORROW NIGHT! Hope you’re holding some tix.

  • Our all-Canada update continues with more photos fresh from the set of Degrassi, where Kevin appears to be wrapping up production on the show. Right here, you’ll find some photos posed for with the cast, as well as a shot of Harley outside of the set, and finally, a hilarious world map (note the labels) that’s part of “Jay & Silent Bob Go Canadian”. We can’t wait to see the footage from this!

  • Priscilla Barnes (of the famous Mallrats “nipple” scene fame) will appear in the new Rob Zombie film
“The Devil’s Rejects”. Her character’s name is Gloria Sullivan.
  • Just to clarify an item from yesterday: The Degrassi DVD box that comes out in February is the old DEGRASSI JUNIOR HIGH show, not the
series that Kevin is currently filming. DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION, the show that Kevin WILL be appearing on, released its Season One box back in
September. You can get it at all your fine web and retail outlets.

  • And finally…Jersey Girl…In Mexico? You bet! Looks like the film translates to all languages…Hey, anyone got a translation? See
    ya next time ’round!

Mewes To Return In “Greenlight” Flick…

November 16th @ 6:34 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Oliver Costello, Ian Pravata, Alonso Duralde

  • If you don’t wanna know the Project Greenlight film choice this year, and want to remain in suspense for the opening Bravo episodes, turn away now, because we’re gonna tell you the title and some details on that film. So, go to the next story if you REALLY wanna be in the dark on the entire project going into the show’s airing.

Still here? Cool. Alright, so it looks like the Greenlight flick is taking on a new direction this year: Not a drama, but rather, HORROR! Cool stuff.

Navi Rawat, Balthazar Getty, Krista Allen, Henry Rollins and JASON MEWES will star in Feast, the John Gulager-directed Project Greenlight horror movie produced by Wes Craven at Dimension.

The film is set during a snowy evening at a rural watering hole where a motley crew of bar patrons struggle to survive a hungry family of flying beasts set on consuming a human buffet.

Rawat (House of Sand and Fog, The O.C.) will play a character named Heroine.

Thanks to Coming Soon for the story. You can also now view the film’s page at the IMDB.

“Project Greenlight” will air on Bravo in the first quarter of next year.

  • Wanna get caught up on your Degrassi now that Kevin’s in the picture? Season 1 comes to DVD on February 1st, 2005! You can buy the entire set (the freshman year) or as one of three single editions. Thanks to TVShowsonDVD for the announcement.
  • Jersey Girl’s Raquel Castro plays the role of “Susan Waverly” in the Curran Theater’s production of White Christmas this season. The show runs 2 hours and 20 minutes, and runs through December 26th. Tickets are available through the juggernaut that is Ticketmaster, Tickco, and other venues.
