Presenting C2:”Back Behind The Counter”!

November 6th @ 11:41 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • With the ever-changing web environment as each View Askew film is made, we’re seeing more and more web-based coverge of Kevin’s flicks than ever before. This time, we’ve got the diary updates, photos, and of course, the excellent video segements from the set of Clerks 2. This is easily the most information that we’ve been privy to directly via View Askew for any production thus far. So, for our production site this time, we’ve done something a bit different. Rather than compete with the excellent stuff that’s already out there, in regular intervals, our “Back Behind The Counter” site is just a simple collection of everything that’s been thrown out there so far.

BBTC features just a few easy to navigate sections, which collect, in library form, the latest photos, videos, cast, and all of our Clerks 2-related articles as posted at News Askew. It’s a nice way to look back, focused on the film itself. It’s also a quick way to see if there’s any photos or videos that you might have missed from the Clerks 2 site along the way.

We’re not sure if there will be a quick turnaround with this one, but we’ll be continuing to brainstorm on other items we can add to supplement everything that’s out there, and make some improvements along the way. We hope you’ll find the simple site a useful resource in keeping up with the latest peeks at what’s sure to be the most exciting View Askew release yet. Stay tuned for more.

Jersey Love! Stash EAST Signing: Nov. 20!

November 6th @ 11:40 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • On Sunday, November 20th, Red Bank, New Jersey will GO CANADIAN! Kevin and Jason make a trimphant return to the walls of the original, East Coast Secret Stash to celebrate the arrival of “Jay & Silent Bob Do Degrassi” on DVD! The festivities begin at 1:00 PM, where you can pick up your own copy in the Motherland, do a meet-and-greet with Kev & Jay, and get your disc signed before you even get a chance to watch it. How cool is that, ‘eh? Plus, this marks the start of the final days of the Clerks 2 shooting, and CONFIRMS that some of the pic will indeed film in Jersey (yes, we can now officially reveal that tidbit).

Oh yes, News Askew WILL be there to cover the event. We’ll see you there, east coasters (as well as the rest of you who hop planes to make the event). As those of you who live here know, Red Bank events always bring in HUGE crowds of devoted fans, as well as a party atmosphere, so you know you gotta be there for this one, too. Plus, hey, it’s on a Sunday — So no excuses for having work or school. We’ll see ya there!

Get the full scoop and details HERE. More news and information as it comes our way.

  • We’re so happy this day has finally come — Jason Lee is confirmed to host Saturday Night Live with musical guests Foo Fighters on November 12th. That’s just a week from this Saturday! Will View Askew somehow get moved into the lampooned sketch arena? We’ll know in just 9 days.
  • The hilarious Onion’s AV club cites the cancellation of “My Name Is Earl” as one of the worst things in the world that can happen in this graph.

  • More from the Onion’s AV Club today. George Carlin basically saying he doesn’t dig doing movies EXCEPT for Kevin. Way cool:
“All that came to fruition after With Six You Get Eggroll. In fact, I found out after With Six You Get Eggroll that I couldn’t act in movies. That was also critical. I found out I can’t do this shit. Man, they want you to change a little bit here, get out of Doris Day’s light, don’t lean in too far, lean back, you’re off-mike, you’re out of the light, you can’t do this, stand there, keep your legs crossed, remember this, say it with a little bit of sadness… Fuck all that!

The trouble is that it’s a collaborative art, and I was more of a soloist. So there was a clash there, too, that I hadn’t ever thought of. I’ve done a few movies since, and it’s not the most comfortable thing for me, but I like Kevin Smith, so I’ve done a couple of his films. And I still have that Hollywood dream going. It’s a hard flame to put out, even after you’ve had all your rebellious period played out in public. “Gee, if just the right part came along!”

And we all know what part that is, don’t we? Read the full scoop HERE.

  • And in other “Earl” news, this time for the UK folks. Great news indeed. Channel 4 will begin showing My Name Is Earl this winter. No start date has yet been revealed.
  • This Toronto Star article on Zach Braff quotes him as showing a lot less interest in the Fletch project now that Kevin’s not involved:
Reports he will appear in a remake of the Chevy Chase classic Fletch are “just Internet rumours,” Braff says. “I met Kevin Smith when he was going to do it. Harvey Weinstein was going to do the next Fletch book which is called Fletch Won.

“But Kevin’s no longer doing it … so the script would have to be amazing for me to be interested.”

  • Here’s a new twist on the Halloween View Askew theme. Not costumes, but rather, PUMPKINS carved in the likeness of several of the inaction figures. Can you guess who’s who? Gotta say we’re kinda digging the William…
  • And finally today, on an unrelated but fun note, you may have already seen this on the new Episode III DVD, but you gotta give mad props to Yoda for this one. Later!

Wanna Tour Dogma’s Locations?

November 4th @ 11:47 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Joe Fulton

  • Being one of the earliest and most memorable experiences in our career here at News Askew, we were lucky enough to visit the Dogma set in Pittsburgh when the flick was being made (mere days after Matt & Ben won the Oscar, by the way). Visiting a live movie set is quite an amazing experience for a fan, but we also feel that visiting once-used locations in films you love can be just as satisfying.

Lucky for you, if you’re in the Pittsburgh area, Joe Fulton, with the help of the Pittsburgh Film Office, is compiling a tour locations list for some of “Dogma”’s most memorable scenes. Complete with photos and addresses, Joe shows you where you can find stuff such as the famous Diner, Cardinal Glick’s church, the airport (of course), even the Rite-Aid that was once the first Mooby’s.

Joe’s looking for help and info on filling in some other locales, and we know some of you who are reading know, so help him out if you’re so inclined. And even if you can’t make it to Pittsburgh, check out the very nicely-composed article, complete with tons of photos.

This is one to bookmark for the archives!

18 Million+ Served!

November 4th @ 11:46 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • A hearty thanks and congratulations to Eric “DamYankee” Young for hitting one of our milestones AND sending us a screenshot to prove it. 18 million hits late last night celebrated here at News Askew. As we continue to grow, both in scope and audience, we thank you all for your continued support, welcome our new members who find us every day, and thank you for visiting, whether it’s a few times a day or just a few times a month. Every one of our users are important to us, and we hope that we continue to bring you the most concise, easy to read, up to date, breaking news in the View Askew realm.

As always, if you have any suggestions, lay them on us. We’d love to listen. We strive to be your best all-encompassing View Askew source for news on the web. So if you like us, great. But if you think we’re missing something, let us know.

And finally, THANK YOU AGAIN. We never thought we’d be counting hits in the millions when this whole deal started over 8 years ago, and now we’re looking at creeping up on an amazing milestone — We’ll hafta try and do some sort of contest for 20 mil. In the meantime, we’re sorting through the prize closet now to send something to our lucky hitter Eric. And hope to see ALL of you here for millions and millions more. Much love.

VJ Action: Brian, Jeff, Trevor, & A Donut…

November 1st @ 11:51 am | No Comments » | Scooped by

  • We dunno about you, but we’ve been digging the brilliant Video Journals by Zak Knutson and Joey Figueroa that have been hitting the Clerks 2 site A LOT. Instead of just covering the filming itself, which we at first imagined, these things have been all over the map, from inside Kevin’s house, to the set, to candid conversations with crew members, even to fun homages, like the latest in the series today, “Mooby Dogs”, which opens with a tribute to one of Tarantino’s best. This one takes a few moments to chat up our three male leads of the picture. And as always, lots of brilliant sarcasm and a tiny bit of insight ensue, including an interesting revelation from Jeff Anderson regarding his thoughts on making the sequel.

And then there’s the “I Bet You” moment, which we’re so glad they captured on film, as it seems to be one of the most talked-about on the set so far. Not only is there $1000 at stake, but you’ll likely to also be watching a gaffer become a likely candidate for one of those “competitive eating” contests you see on those wacky cable channels.

As always, catch the latest Vlog action at the Clerks 2 site!

Commentary…

  • Is it just us, or is each and every Clerks 2 pic that’s showing up just making the wait seem tougher and tougher? Not only does it seem like JUST the right amount of minor spoilers are out there, but the set and color schemes look like this might be the brightest, most colorful View Askew flick yet — Quite an interesting contrast to the original from whence it comes, eh?

If you’ve been avoiding the pics due to spoilers, trust us — For the most part, there’s hardly anything spoilery there. Seems like just enough to whet the appetite. Plus, we’re assuming you’ll be watching all the flick’s trailers when they’re ready, and we’re betting that all of the stuff you’re seeing here will also be there. Trust us — You’re looking at two fans who love going into Kevin’s flicks as cold as possible, and even in running these sites, that’s always been possible. The magic of the movie remainds in the story and the dialogue, and we’ve got a feeling that this one’s going to bring it on like none before.

With all the talk of Kevin and Scott cutting this one together as they film it, you’re looking at two webmasters hoping for a fast turnaround and a theatrical release in mere months.
