Clerks II Logo DECIPHERED!

April 7th @ 3:57 am | No Comments » | Scooped by John Lovegrove

  • We’d like to congratulate John (The Kiwi) and his pals over at the View Askew Board on doing the legwork to determine exactly which fast food chain letters made up that distinctive new “Clerks II” logo. It took around 24 hours, but here’s the final list:

C from Carls Jr, L from McDonalds Large Fries, E from Burger King’s Whopper, R from Burger King, K from KFC and S from Popeyes.

The logo you see above was made by John himself, from the letters from the actual company logos (not a copy!). Nice detective work, all.

  • Kevin chats with “Atlantic City Weekly” for a new interview promoting his upcoming April 10th Q&A at Stockton. Here’s a highlight:
KS: “I visited Stockton back in late 1988-89, when a friend of mine was going there. I went down there and hung out at a campus party. It was a cool campus. It was during a time when I was wondering if I should go to college or not. It was also at a time when I was using a lot of weed. My girlfriend and I broke up and I spent the summer [after high school] just getting stoned. I went to Stockton to visit Paige and she said, ‘You’re not funny anymore ever since you started smoking weed.’ That’s when I stopped. A Stockton student set me straight.”
  • There’s a nice grade and writeup for Kevin and Jay’s upcoming Degrassi conclusion, “Lexicon of Love I/II”, in Entertainment Weekly from this week (Howard Stern’s on the cover). Those of us in the U.S. get the episodes first tonight at 8 PM EST on “The N”.
  • Those of you intrigued by the concept since the Dante & Randal short might find “The History of the Flying Car” at AOL Autos a fun read.
  • Here’s an interesting one from the UK: The flick “Southland Tales” (in which Kevin appears in a small role) has been given a release date of September 15, 2006. No UK date for Clerks II has yet been announced. As for a US release of “Tales”, same deal — No date, though it likely will be September 15th or before, given this news.

  • Everyone’s favorite “Buddy” appears in the new Wizard (#175). See that scan? There ya go.
  • Congrats to former MoviePoopShoot.com editor Chris Ryall on being nominated for a 2006 Eisner Award (Best Short Story).
  • Finally today, a reminder that there’s a big party happening to kick off the Red Bank Vulgarthon next month. If they get 100 paid attendees by April 15th, one board member will donate $100 directly to RAINN and another will donate $50 directly to RAINN. Learn about the new challenge to fill up registrations HERE. If you want more info on the party itself, check it HERE. We remind you this is not a View Askew-run event, but sounds like a fine time all the same, and a great way to meet some fans before you hafta pick your seats the next day!

Clerks 2 Trailer Gathering Acclaim!

April 4th @ 4:26 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • If things seem to be loading a bit slow here, we’re suffering just some slight lag from all of you enjoying the Clerks 2 Trailer, now available everywhere! We can’t even stop playing and replaying this one, and it’s truly amazing how many scenes of the film that get touched on here. Remember, this one’s been edited together special for you, the fans on the internet, and will play much differently than the more mainstream version that appears later this month with Scary Movie 4. Consider it a bonus trailer! Kevin also checked in with a brief post to share more kudos:

Haven’t seen the trailer yet? Get moving to the Clerks 2 site! Or hey, go watch it again, and SPREAD THE WORD!

Clerks #4 In Empire’s Greatest…

April 4th @ 4:26 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Buzz, Brian Caylor, Ian Muttoo, Ethan Long, Doug Daulton, Chris Wright, Chris Scott

  • Respected UK publication Empire Magazine recently named their top 50 Independent Films of all time. “Clerks” had the distinction of being high up in the list among great company, and took the #4 spot! You can view the write-up HERE or start with the bottom of the list at THIS page. Here’s what they had to say about the film:
All told, the credit card bills and sundry expenses amounted to somewhere in the region of $25,000. That’s a lot of coin to pay back, but if Kevin Smith was ever worried about recouping his borrowed, begged but absolutely not stolen outlay for his first movie, then he didn’t really have time to show it. For Clerks was quickly picked up by Miramax chief Harvey Weinstein, who overlooked its dodgy production values, ropy acting and a story that resists the description ‘threadbare’ because he saw a raw vitality in its balls-out dialogue; a vitality and spirit and, more importantly, laugh out loud sense of humour that ensured that Clerks connected instantly with disenfranchised tweens and shop workers everywhere, and the rest is history for Smith, from Chasing Amy to the continuing adventures of Jay & Silent Bob, to Empire Awards and domination of the geek world. Or, as Wor Kev might say it, motherfucking cocksucking history.

Congratulations to the View Askew gang for the kudos among some very nice competition!

  • Unfortunately, it seems Kevin has had to unexpectedly drop out of playing the Harry Knowles role in “Fanboys”, due to a last minute scheduling conflict.
  • A new, editorial-style article on “My Name Is Earl” appears over at Philly.com today. Here’s a new quote from Lee:
Jason Lee, who plays the title truant, believes that viewers are responding to the show’s heart. “It’s the most diverse group of people I’ve ever experienced as an actor in terms of who approaches me to say they love it,” he says in a telephone interview from the set in California. “I can’t help but think a huge part is because each episode comes together at the end. There’s always a sweet moment with Earl smiling and crossing another thing off the list. You like this guy.”

Amen sir. And may the show run another 10 years!

  • More info on the kudos to Kevin in indie flick “For Catherine” – Kevin’s also mentioned twice in the commentary track, with the director at one point saying, “I think I was channeling Kevin Smith when I wrote this.”

New ONLINE-ONLY
“CLERKS II” TRAILER
Debuts Tonight!
  • It’s a big night, folks — Kevin has revealed that he will debut his internet-only trailer for Clerks II online, TONIGHT! Get ready to share your opinions and see some fun, uncut clips from the new film. This trailer represents the way that Kevin would like to sell the film to the fans — It’s going to be more “inside” than the more mass-audience friendly piece which is tied up with Scary Movie 4 later this month. Once it’s available tonight, expect some massive slowdowns on the servers for a while here (happens every time), but please check here, View Askew, and the official Clerks 2 site for mirrors. Also, if anyone grabs a copy and wants to help out with hosting it up as well, let us know and we’ll post your mirror link here as well (should take the strain off our servers for a while and let more folks see it).

Get ready, folks — More finished footage from Clerks II is mere hours away from gracing your desktop! See ya back here real soon!

“Wall-Rats”

So, in this latest edition of “Train Wreck”, you’ll meet two NEW background extras, who got camera time just for showing up and lurking around the Mooby’s set! Dang! That coulda been US walking by those doors outside! Watch it all go down with QuickTime video or your Ipod at the official Clerks 2 website.

Westwood Stash Featured On G4TV!

April 2nd @ 7:03 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Willie Stevens, Dave Barr

  • A must-see stop for any fan making the trip to California has to be the amazing Westwood Stash. One of the coolest comic book stores in the world in both style and substance, the store features one of the largest collections of authetic View Askew props anywhere. You can pick up all your favorite books, and, of course, all of the cool swag that’s sold at the online store. Televsion program “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network ran an excellent piece on the store, featuring glimpses at the famous folks that often appear there, as well as some of the cool stuff that you can see there. We’ve got a copy of the segment for your viewing pleasure! Check it out. But trust us — Video doesn’t do the store justice. Make sure to visit the stores in person when you’re in town!
