Kevin Featured In New “Jaws” Doc…

  • Very cool news today — The makers of a new documentary on the impact and legacy of “Jaws” confirm that Kevin has filmed an interview for the project. This courtesy their official “The Shark is Still Working” site :
Over the past year, we’ve heard it several times. “How can you have Bryan Singer, Robert Rodriguez, and Eli Roth in your documentary and not have Kevin Smith?!” People would ask, “Don’t you know he’s more famous for being a Jaws fan than anyone?”

Yes we do know that.

Well, it’s time to come clean. Kevin Smith is in The Shark is Still Working and he’s been in it all along. There have been various ways we’d try explain why we didn’t have him, because we decided that we were going to keep him a secret. Our mentality was out of wanting one big secret saved up for when the doc finally hits. We just liked the idea of some nice surprise lurking in the show somewhere.

Then another mentality crept in. It was called “wisdom.” Kevin may have a fan base as big as Jaws itself so his involvement gives us a whole new crowd to appeal to.

What a phenomenal interview he gave us too! Since he is such a notorious Jaws fan, he was full of enthusiasm. It was almost as if he was a Jaws fan first, and a filmmaker second. In fact he told us that his ultimate experience as a fan would have been to go to Jawsfest on Martha’s Vineyard in 2005. He ended up not going. Off-camera he sheepishly confessed, “That was really stupid” looking like a deflated five year-old when he said it.

When he first found out about The Shark is Still Working, he couldn’t be held back. We contacted him, he took one look at our trailer, and he gave us an exuberant “I’m in!” We’re so thankful. Since one of the angles of The Shark is Still Working is to hear from successful filmmakers who’ve been “changed” by Jaws, Kevin’s absence would be most conspicuous, leaving a gaping hole in the program.

We’re thrilled to have ya in the doc, Kevin. Snootchie Bootches!

The doc is currently in the hands of Universal Pictures as they seek distribution. If you wanna see it, take a sec to sign the online petition. We’ll let you know if we hear more.

  • Catch of clip of Kevin’s character at this Yahoo Movies page of clips for the new TMNT flick.
  • Fans Thaahum and Mattt Potter have done some nice musical and video tributes to View Askew in the past. We want to throw a quick plug for them for Thaahum’s new song for the upcomming Adam Rifkin film, “Homo Erectus”. You can catch a trailer that Mattt cut to it that can be seen over at YouTube. Also learn more about Taahum on music site “Pulse Rated”. Congrats, guys.
  • And here’s a fun one to end out the day — Bullz-eye.com is currently running a “Bad Ass” bracket, where one of the branches is matching Maximus (of “Gladitor”) against Kevin and Scott’s beloved Dalton in “Road House”. Sorry to say, it seems Dalton’s throat-ripping technique just doesn’t have it against Maximus, as he’s currently only holding 9% of the vote!
