  • Ever been to The Burgg? It’s a website where users can contribute their own quick little sketches inspired by their favorite films — Do some searching and you’ll see user entries from Clerks, Clerks II, Dogma, and more.
  • The folks over at Film 411 say Clerks II gets even BETTER the more you view it. We couldn’t agree more.
  • Bebo is an online fan community for stuff folks love — A new Kevin Smith bebo has popped up which will include photos, videos, discussions, and more. Could it be the next Myspace? Ya never know.

  • We ran a scan of this UK Time Online story referencing “Chasing Amy” as a top romantic film, though some folks seem to have missed it — Check out the online version.
  • Remember that limited Mooby’s box set of the Clerks II DVD that was only available thru Best Buy? One lucky fan found a stash of them on sale at a Fayetteville, Arkansas store. Just goes to show ya, look around, they may still be around…And are definitely quite the collector’s items!
  • Good marks HERE for “An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein”, currently starring Marilyn Ghigliotti and now playing Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. through June 30 at the Raven Playhouse, 5233 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood.

  • Wanna fall in love with Rosario Dawson just a little bit more? Seems that she’s now making regular appearances at Comic Book Conventions to meet fans and promote her new book “Occult Crimes Taskforce”. Check out some info and photos from her recent stop in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ah, Rosario!
  • And finally today, let’s close it off with two Dogma mentions (with “Evan Almighty” hitting the news, relgious-themed flicks are all the rage). First up, the film makes a CNN/Entertainment Weekly list of bible-influence films. Dogma’s also showing up at Number 9 in MTV’s Thou Shalt Read Our List Of Top 10 Film Portrayals Of God, In Rewind.See ya, folks! Big site news on the horizon. Stick around.

The COOLEST Auctions Askew Items EVER!

June 18th @ 7:21 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Those of you that have been with us for a while here know the deal with Auctions Askew – Get yourself some pretty rare stuff from the flicks, often one-of-a-kind stuff. The auctions have returned for another round, and after an amazing selection last week, Kev’s outdone himself this time, offering up probably some of the most amazing, iconic items from the Askewniverse yet. Yes, you can be the ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD to say you own this stuff. And that sure is saying somethin’. Let’s take a peek at this week’s offerings:
1. Silent Bob’s SCREEN WORN SHIRT from CLERKS II
2. The one and only FOAM SCALE MODEL of Mooby’s, used in the CLERKS II production
3. The UPDATE NEWS NOW sign from J&SBSB’s onscreen newscast with Jon and Will
4. The BABY DAVE poster from CHASING AMY’s con scene (this one’s a true cinematic icon, and will likely set records, but one of the most amazing offerings ever)
5. The HOSTIES box from DOGMA (yet another icon from a legendary film, we can’t believe they’re letting this one go)
6. A playbill for the pageant in JERSEY GIRL (complete with a listing of all the kids performing works from “Cats”)

By far, this is the most elite offering we’ve seen at Auctions Askew, and truly some amazing pieces of history. Bid carefully and wisely if you want an item, as we think competition’s gonna be stiff. Don’t let any of these gems slip through your fingers! Visit the official thread at the View Askew board, and get your bid on RIGHT HERE.

Smith & Mos To Host “Crazy 4 Cult”…

June 18th @ 7:20 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Now here’s some coolness for ya — Kevin’s announced that he and Scott are going to host an art show on July 17th, and the art that’s being featured has the subject of “Cult Movies” – In other words, this is likely to be some of the coolest art that a movie geek has ever laid his or her eyes on. Here’s Kevin from his blog with the scoopage:
There’s an art show that Scott Mosier and I are hosting in L.A. next month. The subject of the show is cult movies, so all the pieces will be themed to cult flicks. Check out the invite (above).

The show will be held at Gallery 1988. Check out some stuff from their video game-themed exhibition entitled “I Am 8 Bit.”

“Crazy 4 Cult” is gonna be a kick-ass show, and it’s absolutely free (unless you wanna buy some artwork, naturally). You can’t miss this! Come one out for the July 17th opening, check out some bad-ass artwork and smoke some cigarettes with me!

More details (just a few though) over at the Gallery’s website.

  • It’s Smith. It’s Mosier. It’s Monday. Yep, It’s SModcast.

SModcast 16: Bungpiece.com

In which our heroes rock some poker in the back (and liquor up front), opt to talk about the previous SModcast in lieu of new topics, enter “Jaws” as a length of measurement, enjoy an impromptu visit from a cinematic stoner and discuss his spicey endorsement prospects, try to wheel and deal for a starring role as a gay hustler, and enjoy looking at underwear.

Where do ya get it? Why, exclusively over at Quick Stop Entertainment, of course.

‘Clerks’ (1994)

Instead of the stereotypical office, Kevin Smith illustrates the stereotypical corner shop job in his film, “Clerks.” The movie follows Dante Hicks and his buddy Randal Graves as they deal with a typical work day with some atypical problems. We love it when, every time he’s faced with a problem, Dante repeatedly reminds the audience, “I’m not even supposed to be here today.” Who hasn’t been stuck in that type of situation?

  • Kevin showed up in a pool at a beta entertainment site called “Buzzdash”. He’s part of the running for “Favorite Cinematic Kevin”. He’s holding a strong 22% of the vote at presstime, though we figure you may get some votes in to help that along after reading this ‘bite. Get on over and let your digital voice be heard!
  • The famous IMDB has updated their “Zack and Miri Make A Porno” page with a new URL, discussion area, and 2008 release target. We also noticed that a dude named Shawn Patterson is currently listed as the original music dude for “Red State” on its IMDB page. Can’t say for sure how solid that info is this early in the game, though, as we thought Jim Venable might be on board. We’ll see what we can dig up.
  • And finally today, seems that the Emperor has a bit of a problem with those Death Star independent contractors in this new Robot Chicken sketch that premiered on Cartoon Network’s “Adult Swim” last night. Enjoy! Off to eat some birthday cake…See ya…

“Zack & Miri” / “Red State”: What Do We Know?

June 16th @ 1:32 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin’s been feeling a bit generous lately as far as info on the new projects go, so let’s do some quick interpretations and summations of what’s been revealed in the big Zack and Miri post this week :
  • Jay Mewes will NOT be in “Red State”, but likely appear in a role in “Zack and Miri”. He will NOT play Zack. Miri was likely the character writtien for Rosario Dawson’s voice, though no word yet on if this is 100% true or if she will play the part (though we’re calling this one pretty likely at this point.
  • “Zack and Miri” will have a runtime of AROUND 1:40, by estimates.
  • “Zack and Miri” will take place in Minnesota, but not necessarily film there (though the script calls for snowy weather, so speculation on a locale is rampant). Illinois and Connecticut were named as possibilities by Kevin, due to the potential tax credit they offer for shooting there. Kevin says, “We’re submitting a budget for Illinois. If Weinstein Co. approves it, we’ll more than likely shoot there, and the location of the story will follow suit.”
  • Kevin intends to have Dave Klein shoot both films, with “Zack and Miri” on film (not digital).
  • Kevin is aiming for a completely fresh, new to View Askew cast for “Red State”.
  • The “Zack” character is quite Dante-esque.
  • Hockey will somehow play a part in “Zack and Miri”.
  • Kevin does not intend to appear in any role (large or small) in either “Red State” or “Zack and Miri”.

And there ya have it, folks! Appetites satisfied, for now? No? Okay then, we’ll see what else we can dig up.

O’Halloran In Secaucus!

June 16th @ 1:31 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Sean Tideman

  • The great (and always gracious) Brian O’Halloran will be appearing at the FANGORIA WEEKEND OF HORRORS, happening June 29th in Secaucus, New Jersey. He’ll be there previewing his new horror/comedy, BRUTAL MASSACRE. O’Halloran’s one of the best guys in the biz you could ever run into, and loves meeting his View Askew fans — Be sure and show up to show him and the film some support. More details over at the Fangoria site.

  • The UK’s “Broadcast” magazine reports this week that their Channel 4 has acquired the rights to “Reaper”. This can be partially seen if you search on their website for Reaper – although you have to pay for the full story. Essentially, they acquired it via an output deal they have with Disney ABC International, which gives them the first pick of just TWO shows a year. It will be screened on C4, and it’s sister channel E4, starting in 2008.
  • To continue with the strangeness surrounding “Everybody’s Dead”, Brian Lynch just posted a link to a cryptic website that was purchased to promote the film — nothing but a tagline there right now..
  • Film Babble Blog cites Stan Lee’s Mallrats turn as one of their “20 Great Modern Movie Cameos”:
17. Stan Lee – MALLRATS (Dir. Kevin Smith, 1996) The Spiderman creator and Marvel Comics main-man has done cameos in many comics adapted or related movies (SPIDERMAN, THE HULK, X-MEN, FANTASTIC FOUR, etc.) but this one set the standard for the Stan Lee cameo. He plays himself so he’s treated as a God by comic book collector geek Brodie (Jason Lee) and as such he rises above the base level humour even when saying lines like “he seems to be really hung up on super heroes’ sex organs.”
  • There’s a “blooper reel” for Underdog (Featuring the voice of our beloved Jason Lee) posted up in high-res Quicktime via this link. Give it a few minutes to start streaming, especially if you’re on a slower connection.
  • “Chasing Amy” gets name-dropped in this marvel.com article about what an inker (a.k.a. “tracer”) does. Yeah, depth and shading!!!

  • More love for “Amy” in this scan from the Times late last week – Their cinema section featured an article talking about the death of real romance in todays cinema. After the article, various Times journalists vote for the 20 most romantic moments on film. Nice to see they have some taste.
  • And in other Stan news, Entertainment Weekly’s Popwatch blog reports some really nutty Lee news — Much like his animated backing of Pam Anderson’s little-seen but not terrible Stripperella show, he’s now got a new horse in the stable – Paris Hilton. Yep, you heard us, an animated Paris Hilton. Sigh…
  • And finally today, boy do we love this one…A Syracuse basketball franchise may very well become known as….wait for it…The “Snow Ballers”. Hooo-boy. Stew on that one and we’ll see ya next time. Have a good weekend!
