News Askew – Now With Twitter!

June 10th @ 6:44 pm | 1 Comment » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • So, have you joined the Twitter craze yet? Twitter is sort of a micro-blog for those with short attention spans, a portable blog on the go where users set up accounts then post one-liners throughout the day, stuff like “Heading to the movies to see Iron Man”, or “Grilling up dinner”, etc. You get the idea. Sort of taking the idea of personal privacy totally out the window. And it’s insanely popular.

So, not being one to stray from the popular, we’ve decided to jump on board. So, those of you who follow Tweets might want to add “newsaskew” onto your Twitter follow list. The new News Askew Twitter channel will automatically Tweet you an update whenever we post a new story here, along with the headline and a link right over to us. Kind of an alternative to RSS for those of you who prefer it.

We hope some of you can make use of this new feature, as we continue to strive to be on the bleeding edge of web tech! More on the way.

Save New Jersey Film!!!

  • Want to see a future View Askew film that uses locations in New Jersey, just like the good ‘ol days? If Jersey’s governor has his way, you may never see it again, as he wants to take away tax incentives that allow filmmakers to come into the state on the cheap, bringing lots of work to the State.

While the neighboring states of New York, Connecticut, & Pennsylvania are all increasing tax incentives to filmmakers, New Jersey Governor Corzine has decided to eliminate funding for the New Jersey State Film Commission starting July 1st 2008.

The New Jersey Film Commission provides invaluable services to location scouts and location managers working in the New York City area, without which, many projects would not have been filmed in New Jersey.

Filming in New Jersey Brought in 92 million dollars last year, money that will be spent in other states next year if the New Jersey Film Office is eliminated.

Immediate action is needed to prevent this blow to the film industry in the northeast. Visit savenewjerseyfilm.com for information on what you can do!

  • Don’t miss the new SModcast 53, posted right on schedule at the start of this week – This time around, Scott and Kevin get back to business talking about MEAT, dogs, and well, more MEAT. Surf on over to Quick Stop Entertainment for your exclusive download , absolutely free! Mmmm….Steak-ummm. Yep, Kev, they still make it, and it’s still fantastic.
  • Kevin gets a much-deserved name drop in a new NJ.com article on the use of many New Jersey filming locations used in recent Hollywood fare:

“…Other fans know the Garden State better as the home and stomping grounds of director and writer Kevin Smith.

Many of Smith’s films feature recurring New Jersey landmarks — including the Quick Stop Convenience Store in Leonardo where Smith worked as a teenager; Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash and Jack’s Music Shoppe in Red Bank; and The Ice Rink in Brick Township.

Like Nobebosco in Blairstown, Smith’s rotating list of hot spots continues to draw picture-snapping fans from across the country. Lucky fans might even find Smith’s buddy and franchise alum Walt Flanagan working the register at the Stash.”

  • The long-gone Kevin Smith / Tim Burton “feud” is brought up today in a Los Angeles times piece titled “Directors Gone Wild”. The recent verbal tiff between Clint Eastwood and Spike Lee brought the topic back into the forefront.
  • Yes, a veiled “Mallrats” reference even made it to a recent blog post on the ridiculous gas prices here in the U.S. these days. Personally, we gotta say the rates are getting to the point where driving habits just gotta start changing. Crazy times. Watch your wallets, folks. And we’ll see ya next time.
