Clerks Ratings Not Great, But Not Awful…

We’ve got a couple different takes on the Clerks ratings which were announced yesterday afternoon. An article from website www.inside.com stated:

While CBS was getting great news from Survivor, ABC was bombing with its premiere of Clerks (3.5/10 in 18-49, 5.2/9 in homes). Luckily, ABC kept this slacker out of the regular season, because it didn’t even approach satisfactory retention levels Wednesday night relative to its lead-in from Drew Carey (5.9/17 in 18-49, 9.2/16 in homes). While slot regular Spin City generally retained about 90 percent of its 18-49 lead-in from Drew, Clerks settled for a mere 59 percent.

While those numbers certainly aren’t anything to write home about, it’s still nice exposure for View Askew and for the show. Fan response from what we’ve seen in talkbacks and over at View Askew has been 85% positive, we’d say, so that’s a job well done as far as we’re concerned. You can find a complete listing of Wednesday evening’s TV ratings HERE.

On the other side of the fence, here’s a much more positive snippet from ABC’s Thursday press bundle:

Clerks” Debuts as the No. 1 Program in Teens and Holds the No. 2 Position Among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49

* From 9:30-10:00 p.m., the debut of ABC’s animated series, “Clerks,” earned a second-place finish in its half-hour among Adults 18-49 (3.5/10) and Adults 18-34 (3.7/11), behind only NBC’s coverage of the NBA Conference Finals. In addition, “Clerks” took first place in the time slot among Teens (2.7/10).

In addition to this, it appears that ABC has added a 6/14 episode of Clerks to their schedule in a recent press release! Of course, we all know that network execs are fickle and the show could still be pulled in a heartbeat, but we’re hopeful that they let it have its dignity and go the distance for 6 weeks. Next week’s episode, which should almost certainly air, is the “flashback” episode with some references to the unaired pilot, and some really funny movie references. Episode 3, now on for June 14th, is the “Outbreak” episode featuring celebrity guest voices from James Woods & Gilbert Gottfried. We have also heard rumblings about a June 21st airdate for another episode (which would be Episode #5) but this is unofficial at this point.
