Kevin Stops In…

  • Kevin dropped in for a quick visit to the web board last night with some very kind words about the site that certainly made our day, as well as his thoughts on the whole Amy DVD issue. Thanks again Kevin, we certainly appreciate that.

So it seems that that we will indeed be seeing Criterion‘s version this Winter, and the possibility of a new documentary is SWEET, since the one that JM, Vincent, & the gang put together for Mallrats was one of the disc’s highlights for sure. Here’s Kevin with more:

I just wanted to give a shout out to Brad and Chris, and say that today’s NewsAskew was really informative as hell. Therewere things in there that even I didn’t know (that Grove/Atlantic press release on the ‘Dogma’ screenplay being one of them). Props to the boys. NewsAskew is always a good read, but today’s really stood out, for some reason.

For the curious, we will definitely be selling those ‘Dogma’ published screenplays at the Stash site (and presumably at the Stash itself).

I wouldn’t go nuts trashing Disney for that Alliance DVD smackdown. While I’d been reading about the supposedly packed DVD that they were putting out for months, Criterion assured me – even back then – that it just wasn’t the case. As I said the other day – they could’ve released a DVD that had just the flick and a trailer on it, but never all the extras they were talking about. Those extras don’t even belong to Disney/Miramax; they’re Criterion’s. So while I can’t speak to the reason ‘From Dusk ’til Dawn’ was pulled, I can tell you that the ‘Amy’SE they were talking up was never going to happen…

As Criterion is planning on releasing one this winter (also reported today on NewsAskew). And yes – they’ve talked about adding some more material than just what was on the LD. We’re talking about maybe doing a documentary, kinda like the ‘Rats’ one, but with a happier ending. I’ll let you know if that becomes a reality (getting Lee, Affleck, and Mewes for another sit down shouldn’t be too difficult; but Adams…).

Also, tomorrow night on VH1, they start airing Alanis’ performance of ‘Still’ – her closing track from ‘Dogma’. It’s from her ‘Storytellers’ appearance, and they’re going to run it all month, I guess to promote the flick. Check it out. It’s a really beautiful song.

That’s about it for now. See some of you folks at the New York Film Fest this Monday night.

We’ll be there, too! If for some strange reason you actually spot us amidst the chaos, stop us and say hi.
