- Here’s some big news concerning the most talked about team in Hollywood, as reported on E! Online and Mr. Showbiz today:
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are turning their Oscar gold into green. The Hollywood Reporter says the two Academy Award-winning writers and stars of Good Will Hunting have signed a multi-year, first-look production deal with Miramax, the studio behind their critically acclaimed film, which has so far grossed more than $135 million domestically. The pact significantly expands the existing two-picture deal the guys had with the studio, under which they are currently developing the romantic comedy Like a Rock, which will feature both actors, but with Affleck in the leading role this time out. No word on what the two “It” boys will name the company.
Damon and Affleck were characteristically enthusiastic about becoming major players. “Good Will Hunting was an unbelievable experience, and I look forward to having many more like that with Miramax,” Damon tells the trade. Says Affleck of Miramax heads Bob and Harvey Weinstein, “Harvey and Bob singlehandedly changed the movie business by proving there is an audience for unconventional, independent movies. Those are exactly the kind of movies we want to make, so there was never any question as to where we wanted to end up.” Adds Affleck, “Plus, they demonstrated a shocking and unprecedented willingness to part with a few shekels.”
Hey guys…How about a loan?
