October 31st @ 12:01 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • It’s Friday, October 31st, and the day has finally arrived – View Askew Productions proudly presents the new film from writer-director Kevin Smith, starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks, “Zack And Miri Make a Porno”! The film is now playing in theaters across North America, and since it’s got a nice wide berth, we’re betting it’s playing in your town (or close enough) right now. As stressful as times have been lately with finances, war, and politics, this weekend is the PERFECT time to head to a dark theater and enjoy a couple hours laughing your ass off.

As you’re here reading News Askew, we’re sure you’re going to see the movie today or this weekend, maybe once, maybe a few times. That’s a given. But what we’re hoping you can ALSO do is encourage friends, family, co-workers, and the like to check it out this weekend. There’s so many comedies out there that just aren’t funny these days. Kevin and View Askew deliver the goods in a BIG way, so “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” is a sure-fire crowd pleaser. Let’s not only have a great opening weekend, but let’s sail into next week with even bigger word of mouth.

We hope that you all enjoy “Zack and Miri”, and will come back to this post and Talk Back with your thoughts on the final product, the lines, the crowd reactions, and the like.

Thanks to the fans for your support and excitement leading up to this big day — Now it’s time to get to the theaters, buy your popcorn, claim your seats, and laugh it up. Hey, we’ll see ya there.

  • With only mere hours until “Zack And Miri Make A Porno” is released in theaters we wanted to give everyone a really quick rundown of everything happening in the Askewniverse…

    • First up directly above you will find a hilarious and rauchy interview Kevin did over on G4 yesterday. Definitely turn down your speakers if you are at work!
    • The latest issue of Wizard Magazine (#206) has a story on Kevin and Walter Flanagan’s upcoming Batman : Cacophony comic series for DC Comics.
    • Roger Ebert posted a new blog today about the unwritten rules for movie critics. In one of the talkbacks asking about rules for posting spoilers, there was this quick and funny Zack And Miri mention:

Question: An interesting post. Do you have any rules of thumb about writing spoilers? I ask because sometimes it is hard to tell where to draw the line. Also, do you have any rules about writing notes during a viewing?

Ebert: What I sometimes try to do is, refer to an event in a movie in a way that means one thing if you’ve seen it but another thing, although making sense, if you haven’t. For example (spoiler!) this line from my “Zack and Miri” review: “This does not happen easily, and is accompanied by a flood of scatological humor.” Rules about writing during movie: Do so, but not with an illuminated pen!

    • Moviephone conducted an exclusive and uncensored interview with Kevin and you can read it right HERE.
    • And finally tonight, Ain’t It Cool News’ own Capone tracked down Craig Robinson for and exclusive interview about his career and his experiences working on Zack And Miri with Kevin and the rest of the cast.

Zack And Miri Review From Monroeville Premiere!

October 28th @ 6:19 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Michael

  • One of our faithful scoopers sent us this really detailed recap of last night’s Zack And Miri Make A Porno premiere in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. It sounds like a good time was had by all even though there were some scheduling conflicts with the theatre’s special week-long Halloween screenings. Check out what Michael had to say right here…

Drove from central Pennsylvania out to Pitt for this. The screening was held at the Oaks Theatre in Oakmont, PA (outside of Pittsburgh). The theatre was nice, small, and only one screen. I think the capacity was around 400. They had a large section reserved for the local film crew who worked on the movie. The film itself recieved a great reception from the Pittsburgh crowd. Kevin got stuck in traffic so he arrived a few minutes late after the film, but treated the crowd to about an hour of Q&A including questions about the film itself, Red State, Brandon Routh, favorite Pittsburgh locations, etc. Hilarious as usual. The theatre owner cut him off though because they had a showing of Beetlejuice and Gremlins scheduled which was stupid on the theatre’s part. Having the oppurtunity to have a director such as Kevin in their small theatre, you would think they would have cancelled Beetlejuice, but the owner demanded the Q&A be ended and they pushed everyone out the door. Kind of disappointing on the theatre’s part.

The afterparty was at the Alto Lounge. It was a small place and became extremely crowded with everyone from the screening. The wrong type of place to put the afterparty. A bigger location would have been more sufficient. It should have been planned better. It was so crowded, many people just went outside. Kevin and Jen showed up for the party but quickly moved outside as well because it seemed the Alto did not plan at all for this. Kevin took the time outside on the sidewalk to meet with a few fans, do autographs, and take pics.

In the end…great movie, fun Q&A, though cut short, and poorly organized plans by the PFO. If you check out the Msg Board, many others felt the same and were upset about the organization. Jen also stated on her thread that the Alto was a hassle. No blame on Kevin, he did his best to put on a good Q&A and meet with fans. And the most important thing is that the movie was fabulous!

  • The New York Times ran THIS ARCTICLE yesterday in which Kevin and fellow writer/director David Wain (Role Models) talk about the influence Judd Apatow has had on their respective new releases.
  • In other newspaper news coverage, Kevin appeared in 2 articles in yesterday’s edition of the Boston Globe. The first one is a Q&A session cover “Zack And Miri” and some other fun topics. The second is a quick review of the recent “Threevening” DVD release. Check out the scans above!
  • Ben Affleck will be hosting Saturday Night Live on November 1st, the last episode before the U.S. Presidential Elections. It should be a good show, who knows who may show up?
  • And finally today, jump over to JoBlo.com and take their Kevin Smith Quiz. And shame on you if you don’t score a 10 out of 10!

  • Kevin stopped by this week’s episode of the new and improved Best Week Ever on VH1 to promote “Zack And Miri Make A Porno”. We found this quick spot he did with host Paul F. Tompkins for the movie, hopefully VH1 will post the full episode before the end of the weekend. In any case we’ll have the full breakdown of Kevin’s appearance as soon as we have it. UPDATE : Our scooper John just informed us that this clip is Kevin’s entire appearance from the show. Click the play button above the enjoy the embedded clip!
  • One of our favorite movie sites, We Are Movie Geeks, has decided to delcare it Kevin Smith Week on their site. Go check it out for tons of exclusive content.
  • The Los Angeles Times recently ran this interview with Seth Rogen where he discusses among other things Zack And Miri Make A Porno and his upcoming writing/starring role in Green Hornet.

The Best “Zack And Miri” Clip Yet!!!

October 23rd @ 8:04 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • This brand new, NSFW clip from “Zack And Miri” make a porno can be considered somewhat spoilerish, so before you just click away, be warned — It spoils a really funny cameo, but heck, it’s WORTH it to us!

We won’t say much, other than this clip involves a great deal of the cast, a key element of the film’s title, and a great surprise special guest cameo. And man, is it ever FUNNY. Showing a clip like this around should easily raise interest in the movie, though, so we can see why Kevin has this one making the rounds — After you watch this, we just can’t see how you’d be able to stay away from the film next weekend.

JoBlo links the clip which comes to us originally courtesty of Cinemablend. Watch and enjoy the laughs. It sure looks like “Zack and Miri” swings for the fences and hits it out of the park — Hopefully like the Phillies can continue to do this evening! Go Phils!

QSE’s Got New “Smod” & “Money”!

October 23rd @ 8:03 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Somehow, Kevin and Scott are managing to keep up with the SModcast schedule despite this likely being one of the busiest times in their lives the past year, or even possibly since they started recording the podcast. The guys returned this week with another new episode earlier in the week, and it’s now making the rounds in iTunes. If you’re already caught it, as die hard fans already likely have, cool, though the servers have caught up with demand and iTunes is now streaming it so go on and get your download on. Here’s the skinny on this week’s offering:

SModcast 66: Sleipner the Conquerer –

In which our heroes get political, war the world, and await the annual arrival of Odin.

We’d like to remind you that SModcast remains free, thanks to the good folks over at ThinkGeek, home of half of the stuff on our Christmas lists. Promo code “PORNO” now saves you $5 on orders of $25 or more or $10 of orders of $50 or more. Sweeeeet. Grab episode #66 exclusively at Quick Stop Entertainment.

Now, while you’re over there, do NOT miss the latest cuts of the “Zack And Miri” webisodes “Money Shots”, which continue to focus on showing us interviews with cast and crew without spoiling any moments from the film, which we love. The ever-bubbly Katie Morgan is currently featured on the front page, chatting up her sex scene in the film. Stick around to the end for a bonus bit from Jason Mewes. It’s a double shot!

Zak and Joey continue to break records posting these things, so if you’ve missed a day or two, stop by the archives for more of the kitchen chat with Rogen & Banks (where they chat about their fellow cast includes Mewes and Mabe), and another quick-shot PSA from Ricky himself. We’re expecting this pace to continue at least up until the 31st and quite possibly beyond, so keep your eyes on Quick Stop Entertainment and News Askew for the latest.

Cartoon Network’s “Zack And Miri” Promo Spot…

October 23rd @ 8:03 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Greg Trawinski, John Whiteaker

  • A bit more info on that Cartoon Network “Zack And Miri” spot that we briefly mentioned yesterday — It opens with text on the screen: Tonight, we school you on the making of a Skin Flick. 1. Concept! [animated scene] 2. Audition “talent”. [animated scene] 3. And, Money Shot! [animated scene] The final scene states the following: That’s a wrap! Pop Quiz Sunday night during the Zack and Miri Make a Porno exclusive trailer. Adult Swim.

So, that means we’ll be seeing something that’s never been seen on the web or TV before on Cartoon Network this Sunday night. Cool.

Our scooper captured it with a digital camera, so the quality isn’t the greatest, but take a look at the current spot, then tune in Sunday for their exclusive!

  • G4TV’s Chris Gore shows up to review the week’s new DVDs and among the list, has some flattering words to say about “Threevening” and its predecessors. You’ll need to skip a few minutes in past the “Hulk” stuff if you wanna get right to the Kev bit, which runs in the middle of the piece.
  • In other G4TV news, their daily “The Feed” videocast mentions the upcoming Space comedy around the 1:45 mark, though nothing over what we already reported. In unrelated news, they also confirm that the highly anticipated PS3 title “Little Big Planet” (which we’re hoping shows up under the News Askew Christmas tree) has been delayed until at least November due to a religious issue. Sigh!
  • Kevin’s been known to put together fantastic selections of music tracks, both known and obscure, when he makes his movies — So, it’s with great joy that we see pre-orders up at Amazon for a November 11th release of the “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” original motion picture soundtrack. At this point, no songs have been confirmed, though we’re betting this one will feature all the big tunes along with some choice dialog clips (if it follows the format of previous View Askew soundtracks). We’ll keep you posted, as we’re betting the Stash will announce signed copies of this available for order soon.
  • IMDB reports that the SNL airing of the censored “Zack And Miri” titled ads — Apparently, the ad has been cut for Sunday Night Football, since the NFL demands family-friendly ads without the word “porno” in them.
  • Speaking of ads for the movie, Cartoon Network has been running a “Zack and Miri” spot during the Adult Swim timeframe (usually during “Family Guy” at 11 PM EST), which is actually a shortened reproduction of the trailer, but using what appears to be hand-drawn, paper cut-outs. The spot ends with the mention of an EXCLUSIVE TRAILER that is scheduled for this Sunday (10/26). We know nothing more at this time, but it sounds like tuning into Cartoon Network’s popular Friday late night block of “Adult Swim” might not be a bad idea this weekend. Meanwhile, if anyone caps the cut-out ads, let us know.
