Train Wreck: 911 And Marbles!

July 31st @ 11:06 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

“Call 911″

“Show Me Your Marble”
  • Probably our favorite moment in Train Wreck history is the subject of the new “Call 911″ video — And not just because we were there! It’s brilliantly edited and scored, and features probably the best practical joke in View Askew history — We weren’t in on it either, nor were many of the onlookers outside the Quick Stop that day…And you literally could hear gasps then stunned silence everywhere. It was incredibly well acted by Jeff and Brian especially, and just as tense everywhere as the look on Kevin’s face when he ran to pick up those paper towels. Great stuff.

Next, in “Show Us Your Marble”, learn the ropes of the Marble Club, a fascinating game that the folks on the set of Clerks II use to pass the time (and sometimes make or lose a few bucks). They come up with the most creative ways to gamble, these film crews…

Enjoy both videos free of charge at the official Clerks II website!

Clerks II In EW’s “Must List” Tomorrow!

July 27th @ 11:55 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Bill Norris

  • We’re just received the good word that Clerks II will be one of the touted items in tomorrow’s newsstand edition of “Entertainment Weekly”! The MUST LIST covers 10 items every week that the staffers at EW are calling hot and required reading/listening/viewing. Here’s the text:
‘CLERKS II’

The sequel to Kevin Smith’s 1994 minimum-wage masterpiece is an excellent excuse (not that you need one) to go couch diving for popcorn money.

Kevin’s blog recently made this same list, so it’s obvious that View Askew has some fans at EW – Thanks for the praise!!!

More ‘Clerks II’ In The Press!

  • We’re certainly not going to complain about all the continued press that’s popping up on the web surrounding Clerks II – Even though we’re past release date, we’re still in theaters everywhere, and every little bit helps! Here’s today’s helping:
CNN: “Kevin Smith skewers his ‘sacred cow’: Sequel brings ‘Clerks’ up to date”

“…For all its vulgarity, “Clerks II” has a sweet sensibility and ultimately takes Dante and Randal to a place that should please fans of the original flick — and could leave them counting on “Clerks III.”

Austin Chronicle: “A Convenient Truth”

“…I’m not trying to be better than Clerks; I just want to be “as good as,” while bringing everything we’ve learned over the course of making six movies to bear in the flick.”

Film Buff Online: “Kevin Smith: From Clerks To Cannes And Back Again”

“…The rumor going around the internet was Clerks 2: Counter Terrorism,” Smith adds, laughing. “I think it’s funny, but they were like ‘You can’t use “terrorism” in a title.’”

Comics Nexus: “Review: Clerks II” (**SPOILERS**)

“…In short, the movie is not just a laugh-fest. It’s got an important thought behind it as well. And you get to see a lot more of Jason Mewes than most people would want to see. If that’s not worth your six clams, I don’t know what is.”

AssociatedContent: “A Clerks II Primer: Still Clerkin’ Hard”

“…Clerks II promises memorable moments from characters old and new.”

Final Weekend Box Office: 10.06 Million!

July 24th @ 7:20 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris, John, Michael Groetken

  • Kevin dropped by the WWWBoard earlier today with some fantastic news! Clerks II cracked $10 Million the first weekend. Take it away Kevin…
According to FINAL weekend box office numbers, “Clerks II” did a little better than the Sunday estimate of $9,625,000 for the weekend. The ACTUAL figure, according to the Weinstein Co. this morning, is $10,061,132.

Still doesn’t move us up the list any (we’re still #6), but we DID hit double digits, and were only a million off from our “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” opening weekend of $11mil. We spent $15mil less making “Clerks II”, and we spent way less marketing this movie. Add to that the fact that we were in profit before we opened, thanks to foreign sales, and you have the reason why both Harvey and Bob Weinstein called me this weekend to say “We’re happy. Now let’s keep moving in the right direction.”

In other news, our exit polls have been strong, and our tracking is still good. We’ll see what the weekday numbers look like, and hopefully, the drop next weekend won’t be too steep.

We officially doubled our budget in the first weekend. That feels good.

Final figures should be up at Box Office Mojo later today.

Clerks II Press – Monday Edition

  • Here’s the latest rundown of the Clerks II press found around the internet today:

Weekend Box Office: Approx. 9.6 Million!

July 23rd @ 6:19 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris, John, Michael Groetken

  • Clerks II scored a healthy 9.6 million dollars at the box office this weekend to open things up — Even cooler, it took the 4th spot by per-screen averages given it’s lower screen count, and even beat the MUCH higher budgeted, PG-13 rated “My Super Ex-Girlfriend”, despite that film’s much higher production cost and higher screen count. Clerks II was only slightly edged out by two other comedies, “Little Man” and “You, Me and Dupree”, but both of those films suffered heavy drops — We’re expecting Clerks II will drop much less next weekend due to strong word of mouth and repeat business. A commentary track that will for the first time allow fans to listen to a director’s commentary IN A THEATER via their MP3 player should be available via this site and all our sites sometime this week (Friday at the latest).

The full details are available in this Yahoo Movies chart:

Kevin Smith’s “Clerks II,” a Weinstein Co. and MGM follow-up to his 1994 independent-film hit about two slackers on the job, premiered at No. 6 with $9.6 million.

Overall, Clerks II is the big success story of the weekend, by far earning a better return on investment than any other flick that arrived. Both Lady in the Water and Super-Ex are considered dead-on-arrival flops. We’ll keep you posted on the box office as we learn more. Thanks to all who saw Clerks II this weekend. We hope you’ll go back and urge others to do the same this week and next weekend!

Clerks II: DVD Details!

July 22nd @ 8:44 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Patrick Mirza

  • The great Davis DVD runs some nice scoopage on the Clerks II DVD today culled from recent interviews and quotes. Check it out:
In a recent interview, writer/director Kevin Smith revealed a bit more about the eventual DVD release of Clerks II, which he promises will be “packed like our other ones.” One abandoned subplot had Jay and Silent Bob getting spiritual now that they’d cleaned up. “There was a storyline [about] how they would turn to the Bible any time they needed to make a decision because that’s what a lot of 12-steppers do,” explained Smith.

The filmmaker also revealed that there is plenty of unused footage shot for the official website’s “Train Wreck” video journals. Much of that footage, chronicling the film from concept to release, “will be on there as well and will probably be its own disc.” Clerks II is now in theaters.

Hey, what can we say? Bring on that new, deleted footage! Clerks II will certainly be THE DVD to own this Christmas. We’ll keep ya posted.

You can also check out a short interview they conducted with Brian & Jeff.

Oh, and that tentative release date? DECEMBER 5, 2006! MARK IT!!!

Day One Box Office: $3.9 Mil!

July 22nd @ 3:42 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Michael Groetken, Matt Thompson

  • Box Office Mojo currently estimates a FRIDAY box office total of $3,920,000 for last night, putting Clerks II on track for over a healthy $10 million weekend and #4 overall for the weekend. With a lower amount of screens, this is likely a better per-screen average than some of the flicks over it, as well.

Word of mouth on the film should be good, spreading business around and helping Clerks II to a healthy take tonight as well, with the usual expected Sunday dropoff. Get out there and see the flick again, bring some friends, and if you had a good time, let folks know! Let’s spread the good word about the greatness of Clerks II and help us to a strong opening weekend, and more bucks into next week, too!

We’re guessing this sets all kind of precedents for a sequel, outgrossing the entire box office take of its predecessor in a single day for one — And, of course, by the end of the weekend, the budget will have been doubly made back, at least. Niiice.

More news later on final totals for today, the weekend, and official numbers. More news as well, as e-mails that were log jammed due to our server getting slammed are coming in as well. See you again soon!
