New Bluntman & Chronic Toys: Details From Toyfare!

February 16th, 2001 @ 6:58 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Silent Bob

  • Here’s the most info we’ve seen released get on Bluntman & Chronic, coming soon from Graphitti. Thanks to Toyfare magazine for the details:
Snootchie Bootchies! Two of the baddest burnouts ever to come out of Red Bank, N.J. are set to hit the toy world this August. Released just in time for the release of Kevin Smith’s newest-and final-View Askew universe flick, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Graphitti Designs’ Bluntman and Chronic figures will have a host of cool features. The stoned superheroes will have 16 points of articulation and rooted nylon hair, and will come with a bongload of paraphernalia, including marijuana leaf throwing stars, poop, a banana, a bongsaber, and an orangutan. And like their alter-go Jay and Silent Bob figures, the dealin’ dynamic duo will feature interchangeable hands. Nooch!

Jason Lee in Heartbreakers: First Look!

February 16th, 2001 @ 6:55 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Anonymous

  • Our scooper wasn’t supposed to really chat about the flick at all, but was fortunte enough to catch Jason Lee‘s next flick, “Heartbreakers”, starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sigourney Weaver. Lee plays the love interest of Hewitt’s character in this one. Anyway, he saw a 2+ hour print of this one, which is bound to be tightened up (as most comedies are), and summarizes what we saw for us below. He gives a high-level outline of what sounds to be at least the first half of the film, so if you want to go in cold, you may wanna skip this one. Personally, I never mind if these types of films get spoiled for me, but it’s your call. Check it out:
OK, here’s he scoop, as I’m sure you know, Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt play a mother-daughter con-team. Weaver marries a guy, Love Hewitt seduces him, get caught, and Weaver divorces, getting a good deal of money. The movie starts with a con, and after they finish with it, Love Hewitt tells Weaver she wants to go solo, which Weaver protests, but finally caves in to. They go to the bank to get the money so they can split it but the IRS has them for tax evasion and fraud; to pay it off, the IRS took all the money from their account, and they still need to pay off several thousand dollars. Weaver and Love Hewitt go off to Palm Beach, FL (the previous con was in NJ (woohoo!)) to get a new con so they can pay off the IRS and so that Love Hewitt can have some money to go solo with. Weaver chooses and old cigarette magnate played by Gene Hackman, but Love Hewitt wants to try for a momma’s boy doctor. During the set up meeting of Weaver and Hackman (at an auction house, complete with a hilarious statue..) Love Hewitt goes off to get the doctor. She finds him at a bar and meets Jason Lee (who was, by the way, my reason for seeing this movie…). She tells him off, which gives him a chance to use his oh-so perfect conversational-sarcasm technique which I so love. Anyway, her attempt to get the doctor fails and when she leaves, Lee pursues.

I don’t want to ruin too much of the movie, which, though I know it wil be cut down (run time was like 2 hours) was fabulous. March 23 people, you’ve got to see it. I did get to see a movie release schedule btw, and J+SB Strike Back is slotted into Aug 10, if you were looking for a confirmation on that date and judging by the schedule, this summer will be filled with great movies.

  • Want to ask Jason Lee a question? Here’s your chance. “Lee World” will be conducting an EXCLUSIVE interview with Jason Lee very soon and they want you to send in questions for the man. Simply send a note to revieraskew@hotmail.com with your questions for Lee and they might just be put in the interview. Get them in by the 23rd of this month. They expect to post their interview on the 26th of February. Make ‘em good, folks.
  • The famous “stink-palm” gag gets a mention on Gamespy.com, a popular PC gaming website this week. PVP Online author Scott Kurtz composed this piece on the top ten clues as to Emperor Palpatine’s (of Star Wars fame) true identity. Brodie’s famous Mallrats trick gets a mention, and a picture, at number 2 on the list. The whole article’s fun, and can be checked out HERE.
  • Fandom.com has printed an interview with the cast of the upcoming X-Files spin-off THE LONE GUNMEN. In it, there’s a brief mention made of View Askew:
Dean Haglund was wearing a View Askew t-shirt, hence the first question.

Smilin’ Jack Ruby: What’s with the View Askew t-shirt? You a fan?

Dean Haglund: Kevin Smith. I am a fan. I haven’t actually worked with him at all, but I like Jay and Silent Bob. That guy stole my haircut.

  • RTE 1, an Irish TV station, will be showing Chasing Amy next Wednesday, the 21st, at 9:35. Since most of the main video stores (Xtravision and Chartbusters) seem to have gotten rid of their Chasing Amy copies, this’ll be a good chance for those who haven’t seen it to catch it.

Commentary

  • Hey, thanks for stopping by today. We’ve got a variety of stories today, ranging from stories on actors from the new flick, advanced copies of the Clerks cartoon DVD floating around, comic news, and more. Shooting on the film continues to go quite well. It’s amazing to think that it’s over halfway finished already, isn’t it? A lot of you are asking us when the crew is coming back to New Jersey to finish filming (rumor has it they’ll have one week of filming to do back in the homeland to wrap things up). We figure this will happen sometime in March, but have no specific dates on this yet or any information regarding opportunities to be an extra, if they even exist.

Also, we’re happy to announce that we’ll be heading out to the west coast at the end of this month for a few days of reporting from the set. Expect some up-to-the-minute news from the soundstage itself as well as some other exclusive stuff that we can only bring ya right here at News Askew. We’re being given some all-access passes which includes the opporuntity to take some photos of the cast, crew and the set, so expect some good stuff and a HUGE report in a couple of weeks.

Alright then, that being said, let’s see what’s in the news today:

Clerks Cartoon DVD – It Exists!

February 15th, 2001 @ 1:17 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Paul Vickery & Mark Whiteman

  • A couple of advanced reviews came into us on the Clerks: Uncensored DVD, as two lucky readers from the UK got their discs a full week early, since companies tend to ship stuff overseas very early to make sure it arrives on time. Anyway, here’s some information that we heard about the disc from these reports:
  • The commentary track is quite good, and includes quite a bit of Kevin discussing the cancellation of the show.
  • The commentary re-affirms that the Clerks cartoon animated feature will happen.
  • Kevin tells about some of the episodes that were never made due to the cancellation. Our scooper says, “My fave one was they were gonna have an episode where Randall bought Kitt from Knight Rider and Kitt becomes so jealous of his relationship with Dante that he kills him, then lays some of Dante’s clothes on the hood and nobody notices.”
  • Each episode comes with a multi-angle option. Angle 1 is the actual cartoon, and angle 2 is every single storyboard used to create the episode along with the commentary. How cool is that?
  • All the original character development and early pics of their appearances are included on the disc and rumored to be quite good as well.

Both our reviewers were amazed that the series didn’t do better when it aired and wish that it wasn’t pulled. Too bad more US audiences didn’t feel the same way! We’ll of course have a full review of this thing when we get copies. Sadly, we couldn’t get review copies sent out to the site so we had to order our copies just like the rest of ya. We’ll be watching it the same time as you! Our review will probably focus on the extra features more since we’ve seen the toons themselves on several occasions.

  • A new interview with Vincent Pereira appears at the Drama Monkey website, where he discusses “A Better Place”, the new soundtrack (available from Gig Records) and lots more.
  • Jay Mewes is in an AICN poll the Best ActorPerformance award for his role in “Scream 3”. Against such candidates as Russel Crowe, Ellen Burnstyn and Tom Hanks, Mewes has some tough competition, but hey, it’ll be fun to see how many votes the guy gets.
  • An article on Will Ferrell appeared at MSNBC yesterday which contained some audio clips. In one of them, titled “On His New Movie”, he discusses his role in J&SBSB. Check it out.

  • Fandom‘s got the cover for Green Arrow #4 posted, which you can check out above. It looks like we might get to see a Kev-scripted Justice League!
  • Speaking of Fandom, Marvel honcho Joe Quesada reveals what his role in J&SBSB involves. He’ll actually speak and appear in an action sequence.
“I`m in wonderful Hell-A this entire week, having fun and kickin` it with sexy celebrities! Got a call from Kev Smith about a role I have in his new opus, Jay and [Silent] Bob Strike Back, this time I have a speaking part and a surprise action scene! It was an offer I couldn`t say no to so I packed up the family and we moved to Beverly… for a week at least. ”

  • Finally today, a fan made pic that you Pokemon fans may find some amusement in. Catch ya next time!

Mark Hamill To Cameo In J&SBSB!

February 14th, 2001 @ 12:02 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Empire Online

  • Empire Online broke a BIG scoop today with a surprise casting in “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back”. That’s right folks, Mark Hamill, Luke Skyalker himself, will appear in the film. Gary Jensen, the film’s stunt coordinator, broke some big info on the film, and, while we think some of it may be spoiler-ish, it IS just cameo-type stuff. So, as always, swoop the text below and read it at your own risk. Here’s the excerpt from the article that breaks the scoop, which explains the nature of Hamill’s role (which is the part you’ll need to swipe to read):
Filming on the fourth and final installment of Kevin Smith’s New Jersey series, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, is well underway now, and we spoke to the film’s stunt-coordinator Gary Jensen about what’s in store.

“We have a big comedy scene where they’re spoofing a lot of movies,” Jensen told Empire Online. “Jay and Silent Bob go to Hollywood and we’re spoofing E.T., we’re spoofing Star Wars, and a whole bunch of others.” With a mammoth cast including turns from Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, David Duchovny, Jason Biggs, Shannon Elizabeth and er… Judd Nelson, the film is shaping up to be the most ambitious project of the series and will be dishing out a heavy dose of satire to a number of iconic screen moments.

[SPOILER] “We’re doing a big lightsaber fight, it’s kinda fun. Jay and Silent Bob versus Mark Hamill. [END SPOILER] It’s very funny.”

This flick’s getting better and better all the time!

Latest Pics From The Jay & Silent Bob Set…

February 13th, 2001 @ 7:59 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Mysterio & SilntBobandJay

  • As promised, here’s those shots that appeared in Mysterio’s AICN piece this week. Again, these are very spoiler-free, it shouldn’t ruin any of the plot or surprises to look at these things. These shots have been remastered and retouched by our other scooper above, as the originals were given a washed-out look to appear on AICN. The pics come to us courtesy of producer Scott Mosier and his skillful eye. These behind the scenes shots feature a couple shots of Jay & Silent Bob in and out of character, Jeff Anderson, Adam Corolla’s cameo, and, if you look closely on the back of Kev’ director’s chair, you’ll see the working logo they’re using for the film (that also appeared on the Graphitti Designs/View Askew Christmas Card this year). Enjoy!

Bluntman & Chronic Comic – New Artwork & Details!

February 13th, 2001 @ 7:58 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Madkow & Douglas Fir

  • As mentioned last update, we’ve got that artwork that appears in the new WIZARD magazine featuring the new look for Bluntman & Chronic. This should be the way the duo appears in their new comic, coming this summer as a tie-in to Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. Also, a scooper has discovered a B&C page on the Image Comics website! So far it only features one page of text (which basically tells us what we already know) headed by a slightly modified version of the Bluntman & Chronic logo and the first bit of official Michael Avon Oeming Bluntman & Chronic art to hit the web. You can check out the page and that article HERE.

This page also again mentions the upcoming Bartleby & Loki one-shot and confirms that Scott Morse is still on board to paint the book. Way cool.

  • Today’s most popular submission: George Carlin has revealed that his character in Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back will be that of a HITCHHIKER. Thanks to the great Dark Horizons for breaking the scoop.
  • A DOGMA clip aired on Larry King Live last night, as Chris Rock was the show’s guest. Nice exposure for the flick, as King’s show airs worldwide on CNN.
  • A preview for Jason Lee‘s next flick, which stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sigourney Weaver, now called “Heartbreakers”, has been airing before most copies of “Hannibal” in theaters nationwide. If you were among the millions that caught that flick last weekend, you probably saw it.
