God Speculation Continues…

April 4th, 1998 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Here’s another story that we’ve been getting TONS of mail about…All the rumors surrounding the casting of the God role for Dogma. Thanks for writing, folks, but we reported the rumor weeks ago and, as we mentioned, DO know who will be playing God. However, we will not confirm or deny any rumors regarding the casting, since Kevin told us in confidence and we want to respect that. Once the man gives us the go-ahead to make an announcement or makes it himself, we’ll report the God casting as gospel. Pun intended.

Interviews Askew: Vincent Pereira

  • CineZine editor Mike McCarthy’s completed his second in his series of Interviews Askew. This one’s with Vincent Pereira, and it’s by far the most detailed and informative piece on the guy we’ve read thus far. Ming says, “Find out much more about Vincent‘s flick A Better Place, his thoughts on filmmaking and scriptwriting and his influence and friendship with Kevin.”. You can read the interview by clicking HERE, and we highly recommend that you do so!

The other night Fran Drescher was on the Tonight Show and she talked about running into Ben Affleck (oh God, memory problem, I’m sure it was him and not Matt Damon but not 100%) and said she first saw him in Chasing Amy.

Anyway, she then said that he seemed taken aback by meeting her and said something to the effect that could he kiss her. She said yes and then she said something to the effect he could do more then kiss her if he wanted to.

But would he hafta listen to her talk, too? Yikes.

  • Dwight Ewell‘s got himself a bit part in the Henry Thomas arthouse film “Niagara, Niagara” which opened regionally on March 20th. We hear that his scene is excellent, too. You may have seen ads for the flick running on MTV lately (at least, we have). It’s produced by The Shooting Gallery and certainly looks interesting. Too bad we live in a rural location where releases like that never hit our theatres…

That New Aniston Flick…

April 3rd, 1998 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • You know, we’ve gotten mail on news stories before, but NEVER in this volume! TONS of you wrote (some even complained) about the story regarding “The Object of My Affection” (The Aniston flick we mentioned yesterday), so we figured we’d better follow up on the story. Yes, we realize that it was written before Amy and in production, but the fact remains that, without Chasing Amy’s success, this film would be in production limbo and probably never made at all. The reason we mentioned it being a ripoff yesterday was, yes, based SOLELY on the film synopsis we read and the preview that we saw. Based on this though, it CERTAINLY looks like they’re going for the look and feel of a reversed “Chasing Amy”.

Sorry, but we sometimes do like to get a bit opinionated on the website. It’s up to you to decide for yourself if you want to see a movie or not. So check the flick out for yourself if you think it’s going to be good. Personally, we think it’ll tank at the box office and not even come close to the writing and brilliant performances in Amy. Then again, that’s OUR opinion.

Kevin Lives!

  • Man, oh man! There is COOL stuff going on out in Pittburgh! Boy, do we wish we were there…Anyway, here’s Kev’s latest report from the set. This flick’s getting better every minute!
Okay, so we’re a few days in… and it’s been incredible. So many stories to tell, so little leeway (gag orders abound). But here’s what I can say:

1) We shot Carlin the other day, who was absolutely brilliant. He’s one of the most expressive performers on the planet. Folks give Jim Carrey a lot of credit for being rubber-faced, but I have to toss some equal props the way of the great Carlini, who was able to take some okay lines in his monologue, and make them absolutely hysterical with the most subtle (and sometimes, not-so-sublte) contortion of his face.

The shots looked phenomenal (God, that 2:35 to 1 ratio makes for some lush frames), as did Carlin’s wardrobe (props to Abigail, our costume-mistress). And our own gramp shared major screentime with George as well, doing his best non-intentional Silent Bob impression.

We also shot our own Brian O’Halloran that day. He turned in two completely disparate perfs – one cheesily-funny, the other a pretty big leap from all the stuff you’ve seen him do thus far (though not that far a leap from ‘Vulgar’, which you’ve yet to see).

2) The following day, we shot Linda and Alan in a little Mexican restaurant outside of Pitt. Some local news crews showed up, and I’m told a few pieces ran that night on the local affiliates.

Both turned in tremendous performances. It’s a pretty funny scene, but the true humor (I found) was watching two actors of their calibre deliver my stupid dialogue. It was surreal.

3) Yesterday, we shot the clinic stuff, with some very special guest cameos. The first two, was our very own Bry and Walt – reprising(?) their roles from films past, but with a twist. Their co-star in one scene was none other than Janeane Garofolo (sp?), who spent the morning kicking it View Askew style. She was funny, and adapted to the stuff pretty quickly, offering up one of the flick’s lighter moments with all the pro of a stand-up (which makes her the third comedian in the cast, next to George and Rock… never the aim, but ironic nonetheless).

Linda limned a powerful monologue, offering some of her most touching and funny work to date. She’s so fucking excellent, the flick’s almost unworthy of her.

There’s a new member to the troupe who shared screen time with our Linda – Marie-Elena. For a first-timer to hold the frame with a seasoned pro like Linda, it takes a certain something. Marie-Elena had that in spades.

We watched projected dailies last night, and the shit looks incredible. After this flick, the critics of my visual style may have to re-think their positions (or just plain shut their yaps).

I’ve got a good feeling about this one, kids.

The inevitable curious onlookers that have popped up around us have been really polite and unobtrusive. I signed a bunch of autographs between takes (some of which were followed by the requesters asking “What’s your name?”).

Tonight, we shoot the first Jay and Silent Bob stuff. Mewes has never been better (honestly), so I’m anticipating some great stuff.

It’s all great, when you’re in production. Pardon me while I savor it – because in two months, I may sit down in the editing room and realize I’ve shot a shitty film.

Doubtful, but anything’s possible. At one point, we thought ‘Rats’ was going to make $30 million.

It’s nice to see the guy back on the WWWBoard, and to hear about the film. We’d be lying if we didn’t say we were jealous after receiving countless e-mails from folks who’ve been to the sets.

  • A lot of you have been mailing us about this, and, after finally seeing a trailer, we can see why. There’s a new Jennifer Aniston flick coming out called “The Object of My Affection”. What’s it about, you ask? Well, apparently ‘ol Jen falls in love with a gay guy, and tries desperately to get him to return her affection. Sound familiar? And if you think it SOUNDS bad, it REALLY looks like an obvious Amy ripoff. We like looking at Jennifer as much as the next guy, sure, but we still suggest you avoid this flick at all costs.
  • Chalk up yet another successful screening for Vincent & “A Better Place”. After a HIGHLY attended screening at IUP, our scooper reports a fine time was had by a smaller, but attentive crowd at the St. Joes screening. Click the link at the top of our page for all the latest FlixTour dates!

  • You found us! Sorry, we couldn’t resist. Try not to spoil the joke for everyone on the WWWBoard if talk begins…It should be fun to watch the confusion and be in on the joke! Congrats on finding us. Since you wisely DID find the hidden link, you’re among the privileged few to check out today’s news…heheh…Let’s go!

We thought, with the big Intap/Site Downtime incident we had recently, what better opportunity than to give you all a little scare. But hey, don’t be mad, it’s all in good fun, right? Hehehe…

By the way, sorry if the update is a bit dry today, but I’ve just spent my entire evening trying to get 2 ceiling fans hooked up. Any electricians in the house? Helllp!
