Auctions Askew: Get Yourself or a Pal The Coolest Holiday Gift EVER!

December 22nd @ 9:35 pm | 4 Comments » | Scooped by Ming, Brad & Chris

  • Another round of Auctions Askew has begun — Our regular visitors right now are checking their bank accounts and credit card statements to see what they can afford, but for the new folks, here’s how it works – Auctions Askew offers up rare and one-of-a-kind AUTHENTIC View Askew props, from the actual movies or right behind the scenes. These items are for the true fan who wants to own an actual piece of View Askew history. All items include a Kevin Smith signed certificate of authenticity and the pride in knowing you have one of the coolest pieces of swag amongst all your View Askew loving friends.

Items are up for grabs at eBay, so you’ll just need an eBay account to bid. Two swag items from the promotions of “Dogma” and “Chasing Amy” show up this month, including that “Amy” hat which we’re not sure that we have ever seen up on the block before. So, consider it rare. Sure to be among the more popular items of recent memory include that fun utensils poster and flash card set from “Clerks II”, you know it would look way cool up on your wall in your bedroom, office, or rec room. You’ve also got your chance to have a beer bottle that was made quite famous in one of the most memorable scenes from “Clerks II”, heck, one of the most memorable scenes in View Askew history. Cool, right? The bottle’s over $100 so far, so you can tell, a LOT of other people dig this prop as well.

We’re putting our bets on the most popular item this time being a remarkable View Askew metal parking sign — Not a gimmick, we actually PARKED in front of one of these signs from time to time when visiting the Red Bank offices. These signs are a true piece of history, folks, dating back to the very beginnings of View Askew before they even HAD any offices out in California. These are IT. Truly a cool item, one of the most unique and collectible items we have seen up on Auctions Askew – We can’t believe they’re up for bids. But they are, and these could be yours. Highly recommended. At presstime, the signs are sitting at $75 which is a REAL STEAL.

Hit up the official Auctions Askew site for more photos, details, and of course, those precious ebay bidding links. And good luck. We’re jealous of each and every one of you who have these arrive at your doorstep. Especially the one of you who gets those parking signs. SO cool! Take care of ’em folks, and good luck with your bids!

Holiday Commentary…

December 20th @ 6:50 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Here we are folks, at one of the busiest times of the year for us and likely many of you personally, thus, a bit quiet in the world of News Askew and View Askew. We’re hitting sort of a double-whammy this year, as Kevin and Co. typically take a breather after a film’s release, so couple that with the holidays and Hollywood in general takes a bit of leave from publicity. This, of course, all makes it a little tougher for us to come up with news to share, but of course we’re always on the lookout. As always, times like this make YOUR scoops key important, so please hit up our scoops page if you see anything on the web, theaters, tv, or print, and let your voice be heard. We’d love to hear from you.

Next week, we’re eagerly anticipating another installment of SModcast, where Kevin and Scott promise to continue discussing the “Zack And Miri” experience in their open forum. If you missed last week’s episode, it’s absolutely compelling listening, we highly recommend you grab it.

Also, to wind up the year, we’re now prepping our annual “Year In Askew” which will run next week. This story, usually a two-part affair, will run down the entire 12 months of 2008, looking back on another year with View Askew Productions making headlines. It’s always incredbile to look back and see everything that happens in a single year. Watch for that, SModcast, more news, and be safe during the crazy holiday season. Just a couple quick newsbites for ya today…

  • Moviefone’s “Year End Movie Poll” features “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” in several categories — Surf on over and let your voice be heard, show the film and its stars some much-deserved love and praise. It looks like you need to answer each question to move on to the next, and our heroes are scatered throughout.
  • The Digital Bits announces the Blu-Ray arrival of a modern classic, “Donnie Darko”, which will again feature the commentary track featuring directory Richard Kelly with Kevin Smith:

Also newly announced by Fox for BD release on 2/10 is Donnie Darko (SRP $34.99). This will be a 2-disc set (one Blu-ray and one DVD). Extras on the BD disc will include both the theatrical cut and the director’s cut, 3 audio commentary tracks (one with writer/director Richard Kelly and Jake Gyllenhaal on the theatrical cut, a second with the cast and crew on the theatrical cut, and a third with writer/director Richard Kelly and Kevin Smith on the director’s cut) and D-Box enhancement. The DVD disc will include more extras on SD format, including a Donnie Darko Production Diary with optional commentary by director of photography Steven Poster, 2 featurettes (They Made Me Do It Too: The Cult of Donnie Darko and #1 Fan: A Darkomentary), a storyboard-to-screen featurette and the director’s cut theatrical trailer. Cover art is available below.

Sounds like nothing new, but hopefully a beautiful looking and sounding Bluray worth adding to the collection. It’ll be nice to have both cuts on one disc, as many have spoken out preferring the more ambiguous theatrical version to the director’s cut.

SModcast Has RETURNED!!!

December 16th @ 6:21 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris, Bob

  • The last time we spent some virtual time with Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier, it was on October 26th – Today, December 15th, marks the historic return of the dymanic duo to the airwaves — the longest wait since SModcast‘s very first broadcast on the web. Facing a full 5 day week of work in the middle of this crazy holiday season, we couldn’t be more thrilled. Even better, this is a SUPER-SIZED edition despite being labeled as a “part one”. This one runs a full hour and forty five minutes, almost double the size of a typical episode.

This cast, titled “The Talking Cure, Pt. 1” focuses on the guys chatting up the less than expected box offce take of “Zack And Miri Make a Porno”, seemingly in much better spirits due to the downtime. While some in the biz may have simply ignored the topic, Kevin and Scott not only embrace it, but go into incredible detail on the entire ordeal of bringing the movie to fruition, from the planning stages, early screenings, and worlds more. And when it’s over, they’re not even done. The entire episode (save some sidebars about the dogs around the one hour mark) focuses on a single subject, another milestone for SMod.

As always, this is TOTALLY FREE to you and available via an exclusive download at our entertainment portal on the web, Quick Stop Entertainment. The guys don’t ask for a dime for this fantastic entertainment, so we urge you to visit any of their sponsors you see over there and throw some support their way. As always, we thank Kev, Scott, and the gang who produce the funniest most entertaining podcast in the land.

  • Could it be closer to reality? We posted a rumored DVD release date for “Zack And Miri Make a Porno” as February 10th a while back — Now, Amazon is also listing this date . While we have not yet had an official confirmation anywhere, Amazon typically hits the mark, so it’s looking a lot more likely that we’ll be adding the flick to all our DVD catalogs this February. Stay tuned.
  • This article on Russian propaganda film “Strangers” (not to be confused with the recent U.S. flick of the same name), mentions that, though it was thought to be a big hit, got TROUNCED by “Zack And Miri Make a Porno”, which took in 13 million rubles during its opening weekend there.
  • Those of you watching NBC’s “Chuck” (recommended, a nice fun easy watch every week) will notice that “Mallrats” alum Michael Rooker makes a cameo appearance, along with an iconic character from the “Die Hard” franchise that’s just too good to ruin. Check it out, and we’ll see ya again soon…

Toronto Friday Show: Tix Now Open To All!

December 13th @ 3:20 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris, Laura Shannon, Cameron Tremblay

  • The presale’s over, so if you missed out on the first round, you may now proceed to the Ticketmaster site to purchase your tickets to Kevin’s 2nd just-added night in Toronto for this February — The first event sold out in record time, so we’re expecting the same to happen on this one. Don’t delay, buy today.

The show takes place on Friday, February 6, 2009, 7:00 PM in Roy Thomson Hall, Toromto. Kevin’s Canadian appearances are among the all-time greats, so don’t miss out — This historic two night event is sure to go down in View Askew History as one of the greats. Some fans attending Saturday have been buying seats for Friday as well, now that tix have opened back up, which is fine, as no two Kevin shows are ever the same. In fact, his last Red Bank Show was a completely open forum that went in any direction Kevin would allow the audience to take it, no preset stories among the night. If this trend continues into February, we may very well see two totally different shows in Toronto. Here’s hoping to see many a News Askew fan among the crowd. Enjoy the show(s)!

  • You’ve seen it at the top of the event list for quite some time now, so we’re happy to report that tix for the Bushnell show, “An Evening With Kevin Smith”, are now on sale. The show takes place on January 24th in Hartford, Connecticut. Visit the official page to order online. Tix range from $36.50 to $42.50 and, at presstime, are still available. As always with Kevin’s live shows, these have high risk of selling out. If you are on the fence, don’t delay, get your tickets now for what’s sure to be a hilarious evening to brighten up the cold winter months here in the Northeast.
  • Jay & Bob join Unreality Magazine’s list of “Memorable Movie Stoners” :

At a minimum, Jay and Silent Bob induce a chuckle when they’re on screen. Silent Bob, as his monicker implies, usually doesn’t have much to say. Jay, on the other hand, is the personification of vulgarity. He’s as quick to make a d*cksucking joke (Make like a circus seal? Nice.) as he is to light up a joint, and when the reins are loosened in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, the result is one of the funniest pairs of stoners in movie history. What a lovely tea party.

Another “Toronto” Show Likely!

December 10th @ 8:12 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris, Larry Daguanno

  • As we sorta warned when we posted it, Kevin’s fans in the Toronto area are DEVOTED, to the point that his upcoming February 7th show sold out in record time. Not one to disappoint the public, though, Kevin’s acting quick and it’s looking likely that a second show will be announced very soon. This is what Kevin posted on the WWWBoard this week:

      Pssssst…

I’ve heard rumor that the show sold out so quickly, and the demand is still so high, that they’re thinking about adding another show.

      Just something I heard.

We’ll take it a step further – We just heard a rumor that if the show is true, the next presale will be THIS THURSDAY. Nothing confirmed yet, but stick close to News Askew if you want the details. It’ll be our jobs to ensure that fans get tix for this next one as quickly as possible. Stick around.
