Supes Rumor Explained…

November 16th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Quite a few days back a rumor was posted on Corona that Kevin Smith’s “Superman Lives” script was once again being considered. D’oh and Alex sent us the story, which we put no credence in whatsoever, but if you’re interested, here’s the text:
November 12, 1997… Our wonderful SuperSpy flies brings us up to speed after spending some time by himself at his Computer of Solitude. Wesley Strick’s script has apprently been trashed and Avika Goldsman (screenwriter of Batman and Robin and Lost in Space) was brought in to revise Smith’s original storyline. Goldsman’s script was trashed, and production was halted and was not slated to begin until around April or May of next year. After pressure from the big execs (who were fretting about their 1998 summer tentpole film absence and upcoming competition from the Star Wars prequel, Jon Peters is reconsidering Kevin Smith’s original draft and the possibility of releasing the film by late 1998. Again, there are schedules that conflict with this plan, including Nicolas Cage’s upcoming Iron Man duties. So far, our spy reports that only Cage has been confirmed in the casting pool. Great news for fans of Smith’s treatment — we’re hoping Kevin or someone from View Askew can confirm the scoop. As for Mr. Peters and the other studio execs out You think every theatre-goer will want to see the SW all summer long? In today’s day and age?? Trust us — we’ll see other films besides Mr. Lucas’ contribution (the three or sixteen times that we do see it…) If you make a faithful and fun new Superman film, one that both the fans and the new generation of kids will both enjoy, it’ll be successful. [Scoop sent by the ‘Superspy’ — the two cents of our position came from out of own pocket.]

Basically, we were about to post this story in the last news and decided to drop it at the last minute since it seems like SUCH a stretch, which is why it was in the headlines but not in the actual news text. Sorry about that. Now you know what the fuss was about, even though we don’t believe this story at all. Now that we’ve adopted this story, if Kevin confirms or denies this, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Chasing Amy Release Info…

November 13th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Just to clear a few things up, Chasing Amy WILL be out on video on Novemeber 25th, as this site reported from the very beginning. The kickass Criterion LD release WAS scheduled for December 10th, but we’ve just heard from an inside source that that’s been pushed back to Tuesday, January 7th, 1998. Sorry to report that, but that’s just what Criterion does. Believe us, we’re JUST as upset as you are. Anyway, back to the video release: Our local BlockBuster video will be getting a whopping 33 COPIES, so you shouldn’t have much trouble finding it for rental. This is pretty unheard of for a 12 million dollar film, but a good sign for sure! Finally, this tape will NOT be available for sale for at least 6 months, most likely. So just rent it and enjoy, or wait for the laser!

State Of The Askewniverse

November 12th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • There’s been quite a few questions on the boards lately about what’s going on with the “offshoot” projects of View Askew. Vincent was kind enough to post a summary about what’s been going on, and we think it’s both interesting and informative. Give it a read:
The fact is, Miramax has first look on ALL View Askew Productions- basically, that means they get the first option on distribution. They’ve already looked at “DRAWING much every day, and BHD director Brian Lynch stops by sometimes as well, so we tend to give out lots of info on the project.

Both films are progressing quite nicely through editing, I assure you. VULGAR finished it’s first cut last week, and came in at about 105-mintues or so- not bad for a first edit. BIG HELIUM DOG is about halfway through editing, and it’s running time for the first cut is working out to be almost exactly one page to one minute (the shooting script is 94 pages).

VulgarThon 2: What ELSE We Know…

November 12th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Just a few things have come to light since we posted yesterday’s blurb on the event. First of all, NO, we have NO IDEA when tickets will go on sale, all we said was just speculation. Johny just sent me a message saying that Oz was pretty sure that there would be notice before tickets went on sale, and they wouldn’t just pop up outta nowhere. ALSO, Kevin has CONFIRMED that January 5, 1998 will be the official date of VulgarThon, so mark your calendars NOW!

“Good Will Hunting” Review (Minor Spoilers)…

November 12th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

Anyway I saw the new “Godzilla” preview when I saw a sneak screening of “GOOD WILL HUNTING” (can’t tell location b/c you know how it is) anyway. The Trailer wouldn’t have been suspicious if you hadnt posted the description, but at first i didnt recognize it but it looks like The “Independence Day” team has another mega hit on their hands. Getting to GOOD WILL HUNTING, Gus Van Sant did an excellent job with the film, and Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s script was great.

The film is one that makes you want to not like the main character played by Damon named Will Hunting. But as Will makes friends with his new physchiatrist played by Robin Williams we start to open up to him and eventually you feel for how everyone doesn’t undertsand him. You see Will is a genius.

Well anyway I thought you might like to know about it. This is like one of those sleeper films that will probably get looked over at the Oscars(TM) but it has best picture potential. In closing The film is great and Godzilla looks great as well.

VulgarThon: What WE Know, So Far…

Anyway I saw the new “Godzilla” preview when I saw a sneak screening of “GOOD WILL HUNTINGwing%20Flies%20(1996)”>”Drawing Flies”, “Clerks”, “Mallrats”, & “Chasing Amy” will be shown, and a Q&A session will take place between EACH flick. For $40, you’ll get admission to the whole shabang and an exclusive limited edition t-shirt that you’ll wear as your “ticket” to the event.

Hope that clears it up and answers all your questions! Now, you know JUST as much as we do! Hope to see you at VulgarThon ’98!
