Oh, and the flick was just as good, if not better, in the second viewing. It definitely holds up. Don’t miss a chance to catch it on the big screen. Vincent says it should definitely see video distribution, and still hopes for a theatrical run in large cities if he can pique some interest.

In the new issue of Rolling Stone (the one with Sarah Michelle Gellar on in a nice leather suit) there is a small section in the movie part where Peter Travers (I think) has a little article called Also Dissed by the Academy. The first paragraph reads:

We all have favorites that didn’t make the cut. I would have liked a Best Picture nomination for Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights, acting nods to Johnny Depp and Al Pacino (Donnie Brasco), screenwriting acknowledements to Neil LaBute (In the Company of Men) and KEVIN SMITH (Chasing Amy), and a place on the directing honor roll for John Woo (Face/Off).

That isn’t the entire paragraph, just the important part.

Also, he puts Good Will Hunting as the closest runner to Titanic for Best Picture, and says it is a lock for Best Screenplay. However he says that it can’t beat Titanic because of the Academy’s love for epics- Dances With Wolves, English Patient, Schindler’s List, Braveheart, you get my point.

The Unlikely Link Between Metallica And Matt Damon

In six-degrees-of-separation news, there appears to be a unique, if not immediately obvious, connection between Oscar nominee and Hollywood golden boy Matt Damon and metal mainstays Metallica.

Damon recently told “Movieline” magazine that the love of his life was a doctor with whom he had carried on a long-distance relationship for years. Damon would not reveal the name of the woman, but did tell the magazine that she went on to marry “a f***ing rock star who’s got $80 million and his own jet… a bad rock star too.”

Those who have seen Damon’s multiple Oscar-nominated film “Good Will Hunting” will recall that the actor/screenwriter’s on-screen love interest in that movie is also a doctor played by Minnie Driver. Damon has denied that the character is not named after anyone in real life, but Driver’s character (named Skylar) shares the same first name and occupation as the wife of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich.

A publicist for Metallica confirmed that the drummer’s wife is in fact Damon’s old flame. For the record, the normally loquacious Lars had nocomment on being dissed by Damon.
