The Latest On Dogma…

March 29th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • With filming just a day or two away, a lot of speculation has been going on surrounding Dogma. We’re still working on a format to keep Dogma: Rumor Control up to date with the latest, so we can stop putting all this info in 2 places, but here’s what we know:
  • Dogma was scheduled to begin filming on Friday (under the shooting title “Bearclaw”). Equipment DID begin to arrive, and all the stars are in town, but filming was pushed back to sometime this week. We’ll tell you for sure when shooting has actually started. Any day now…
  • Yes, we know where everyone is staying, but we’re keeping that under wraps to at least try and give the folks SOME privacy, although it’s bound to be posted on the WWWBoard somewhere.
  • Latest Rumors: Kevin‘s brother will play a priest. The first scenes filmed will be the clinic and restaraunt scenes. We didn’t read the script, so we can’t elaborate. We just report what we hear.

Hope that at least fills you folks in. We still plan on being your number one Dogma source during the entire process. Visit often!

  • Updates have been a bit slow lately, we realize, but the weather’s recently turned gorgeous outside, and we DO get out once in a while…Ya know, the cars needed washing, the beer needed drinking, etc. So yeah, we’re around, just a little slower on a sunny 80 degree day. Let’s get caught up, shall we?

Kevin & Ben In Entertainment Weekly…

March 29th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by DHannen

  • Once again, Entertainment Weekly‘s got some News Askew for us. This week’s issue features a picture of Kevin with his ISA, where he said his screenwriting award for Chasing Amy is going “right on my f—ing desk, and I’m going to point it out to everyone who walks into my office every day until the day I die”. Also, ben Affleck admitted that “We forgot Kevin Smith,” referring to the director who got Miramax to take a second look at the Good Will Hunting script and is now directing Affleck and Damon in Dogma. “He’s goingto kill us.” (The duo also neglected to thank Hunting producer Lawrence Bender.) Anyway, no NEW news really, but it’s nice to see it getting mentioned in national print. Now if we could just get those E-Weekly folks to plug our website…

Kevin & Comics: Update

  • Here’s the latest on Kev’s involvement with Green Arrow:
The Future of Green Arrow (a Prestige Mini-Series in the works)

Darren Vincenzo told me: “GREEN ARROW #1,000,000 comes out the month after #137. Kevin Smith will start writing sometime after that. But his first issue will not follow immediately after that. Right now it seems likely his first arc will be a mini-series followed by a re-launch. That’s all I can say right now. ”

Kevin Smith confirmed a little while back that GREEN ARROW will start with a re-launch. Kevin told me: “… that this mini-series that’s going to re-launch the book is going to be a four to six issue prestige format event . And wait’ll you see what we’re going to do with the character…” After the mini-series, look for a new ongoing series starting with issue #1.Kevin stated that, “We’re starting over, actually.” Also, so far, no artist(s) have been named officially.

And here’s what’s going on with DareDevil. Quick Memory-Refresher: Kevinoriginally wanted to do a story about the return of Daredevil’s sight, but Lobdell ended up doing that, so Kevin opted not to write the book (his new plan is a totally different story).

Lobdell also commented on the future of DD that almost wasn’t. “Now also might be a good time to apologize to KEVIN SMITH. My understanding is that I sort of worked a storyline out from under him in and that he wanted to do a story where MATT got his eyesight back…and that FLYING BLIND put a kink in those plans. Had I known this, I would worked towards a different arc. I think Kevin is brilliant, and I would have loved to have seen his take on that story. That said, I’m looking forward to his upcoming run on DD.”

No price has been announced, but we’re guessing a retail of $19.95. Also, Good Will Hunting will be released FOR RENTAL on July 7th. More reasons to visit the local video store. We’ll remind you as the dates draw closer.

Pittsburgh ComicCon…

  • I picked up a detailed flyer for the Pittsburgh ComicCon at the comic shop this week, and let me tell ya , I’m impressed! There’s some great guests coming, and they’ve got a spectacular movie & anime line-up for the weekend as well. The con even takes places in Monroeville, so we can stop by the Monoreville Mall again and see all the spots where they filed “Dawn of the Dead”. Even cooler, Kevin’s the headlining guest. Here’s the first paragraphs of the flyer:
This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Comicon and we are celebrating in style with some of the biggest stars of comics, science fiction, movies, and television. We are thrilled to announce the first Pittsburgh Comicon appearance of Kevin Smith, writer, director, and star of Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy. We’re glad Kevin could stop by while filming here in Pittsburgh.

Needless to say, we’re definitely coming in. Drop by the website for more details. Kevin should be doing a panel with Oni Press on Sunday. If any of the organizers or guests at the event could write us with more details, we’d love to hear from ya. Perhaps we can drop by the con and say hi while we’re around. Drop us a line!
