What goes on? Weeeeeeeeeelllllll!!!

Little early P.E. for you there, folks.

So the Nike spots we shot last week – the ones that were supposed to feature Vincent Gallo? We wound up going another way, and as of October 4, you’ll start seeing a very familiar face plugging Nike Tuned Air…

Mewes.

He did quite well, and the clients (that’d be Nike and FootLocker) loved him. The spots are pretty funny. Look for them first week in Oct.

Scott and I are into reel three on the second pass of ‘Dogma’ (there are nine reels total). We’ve already cut out fourteen minutes, bringing the running time to 3 hours, three minutes. Hopefully, we’ll find at least another fourteen to shave before handing in our ‘Director’s Cut’ (though I was kind of hoping to get it down to at least 2:45 for the first ‘Max screening).

We’ve also cut a boss, two minute trailer for the flick which I wish to God we could post here. Perhaps in a few months, if we get permission. It’s very dialogue light, ironically enough, but good Lord, does it excite.

Short of that, no new tales to tell.

Recently I had the opportunity to be a Production Assistant (PA) on the set of a new movie directed and starring the writer of “Liar, Liar,” Mike Binder. It also features the return of Mariel Hemmingway, Steven Baldwin and Kevin Pollock. I didn’t realize until yesterday that it features a famous character from Kevin’s almost-a-mastery, “Mallrats.”

Tricia “Trish the Dish” Jones was played by Renee Humphries. She plays Didi, a bisexual ditzy nymphette in this movie, “The Sex Monster.” It never struck me who it was because she is older (about 23 now) and was made to look older, sexier and more mature in “The Sex Monster.” Her part is large and she is funny and sexy in this comedy coming out next year.

The Internet Movie Database doesn’t even have this info. They list her as Renee Humphrey however all of my casting sheets direct from the set of this movie list this Hollywood Hills native as Humphries.

Criterion does it again! It’s no doubt that you’ve heard about the excellent extras and hilarious audio commentary that accompanies the theatrical feature on this disc. Now own your own AUTOGRAPHED copy! And autographed by whom you might ask? This disc is signed by three of the stars of this movie – Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, and none other than BEN AFFLECK. Disc one contains the theatrical release of Chasing Amy along with a running audio commentary. Pop in Disc Two and be treated to a multitude of cut scenes, outtakes, the trailer and introductions. A must have even if you don’t own an LD player!

A strategic partnership between Event Comics and Marvel Entertainment, entitled Marvel Knights, launches into comic stores everywhere in September. Unleashed on the Museum September 18, Daredevil (seen on the cover of our latest newsletter, Contact Us for a copy) is joined by Black Panther, The Punisher and The Inhumans to create our most exciting super hero exhibit to date.

Event Comics, the publishing house founded by Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, both recognized stars has teamed up with Marvel Comics and bring to the Marvel Knights partnership the all-star creative teams seen above. “This is a chance to take a set of characters and give them a fresh and unique spin without changing the formula that Stan Lee gave the world, ” Quesada noted in a recent interview. He added “we will take that classic formula of super heros with human frailties and bring it into a new millennium.”

Words & Pictures is delighted to unveil this terrific line up of work and guests. The exhibit will showcase work from each of the four titles including covers, interior work and scripts. Additionally we’ll showcase work exclusively in the Event Comics lineup, including Ash and Painkiller Jane. The four Marvel Knights titles are linked not so much through their storylines as through their distinctive visual style. Quesada and Palmiotti are handling the art chores on Daredevil and are being joined by writer Kevin Smith, best known as writer and director of such films as Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and the upcoming Dogma.

While this is not the first appearance at the Museum by many of these creators it does mark the first time we’ve brought together so many super heros at one time. This also marks the ONLY appearance by so many of the creators for Marvel Knights at one time. The appearance of Hollywood film maker Kevin Smith spotlights the unique ongoing partnership that comics and the movies share.

The exhibit will be open to the public from September 18 – November 15 with most members of the creative teams appearing at the Museum on October 17. The day long events will begin in the morning with a panel discussion at 10:30 AM. This event is FREE for Museum Members and $5.00 for the general public, and admission is limited to 75 people. The afternoon signing runs from 1:30 to 4:30 PM, and signings will unfortunately have to be limited to two per creator given the terrific line up and number of guests we anticipate. This is not our usual policy and we regret any inconvenience it may cause but we want to ensure that anyone who joins us gets an opportunity to get a Marvel Knights book signed. Don’t forget that, time permitting you can always join the line of eager fans again and make the rounds to get more material signed. General admission fees apply to the signing ($3.00 adults/$2.00 seniors and students/ $1.00 under 18).

In the evening from 7 – 9 PM we’ll host one of our ever popular gala gallery receptions to honor all of our Marvel Knights VIP guests and give you the opportunity to mix and mingle with them. The evening reception is the opportunity to chat with your favorite creators and these receptions are always attended by a number of other creator friends of the Museum, you never know who may show up. Tickets for the evening reception are $15.00, $10.00 for Museum Members and include hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Attendence for the evening reception is limited, so get your tickets now. All profits from these events benefit the Museum’s ongoing fundraising campaign.

JAY AND SILENT BOB #2, scheduled to ship back in August, has been fraught with problems leading to it being delayed. Oni Press regrets the situation and wishes to extend an apology to its fans and supporters, along with an assurance that they are doing everything possible to get the issue out and the rest of the series back on track.

Initial problems began when writer Kevin Smith’s latest film production, DOGMA, not only took longer to shoot than planned, but also required a large amount of post-production work due to its elaborate story and special effects. As a result, the script was late going to the artist.

Due to this delay, a scheduling conflict forced artist Duncan Fegredo to finish a previously begun story for another publisher. When he was finally ready to start the issue, he contracted a virus that slowed him down even more.

“This may all sound like excuse making,” commented Oni publisher and editor-in-chief Bob Schreck, “but that is not our intention. This is really one of those situations where circumstances got beyond our control. Oni has always been committed to delivering its product in a timely fashion, and up until now, we have done well. Our biggest concern at this point is getting the book into the hands of the retailers and fans without the quality of the material suffering. Once we are over this hump, the last two issuesshould follow every six weeks.”

“This is unfortunate for everybody,” added publisher Joe Nozemack. “We are working double-time to get this issue together. If all goes as planned, JAY & SILENT BOB #2 will finally hit the racks in mid-October.”

JAY & SILENT BOB #2 is the second installment of a four-issue miniseries. Each issue contains 32 pages of black-and-white story and art intended for a mature audience. The cover for #2 is illustrated by Mike Allred (MADMAN, RED ROCKET 7) and colored by Laura Allred (MONKEYMAN & O’BRIEN).

Filmmaker Kevin Smith co-hosts SPLIT SCREEN with John Pierson tonight at 8pm ET on the INDEPENDENT FILM CHANNEL. The pair host the show from Red Bank, New Jersey, with a look at Crispin Glover‘s new film WHAT IS IT?, a spoof of SHINE entitled SHINEY, an interview with Frank Vincent, and a look at the production of film trailers.

Just saw the Pic of my triplet Makeup and the shot is ok, to be honest I have some premo pics of the makeup, and to be honest I’m pissed that you have posted it. The Noman shots that you guys posted was no biggie to me BECAUSE it was of something that was in progress and was not the Noman that appeared on film. So honestly I did not care that that it was released even thou Miramax was pissed, but to have my actual makeup from the film posted kinda turns me off.

And I can’t beleave Kevin is gonna be anymore happy about it either. To be honest to keep showing the stuff so early in advance, from stuff that is in the movie itself, kinda spoils the film. Showing drawings, ideas, rough outlines, to wet fans taste is one thing. But to show the stuff itself I think not only takes away from what you guys are trying do for View Askew but also takes away from the film itself.

Buts its your site you can do as you please, but I very much don’t like the tricks in the magic hat tipped for everyone to see, post, or do as they please with it before the Magic act itself has gone on. You can post this letter if you like on your web site.
