  • Throughout the pages of Comic Book Resources site are advertisements for Erik Larsen’s savagedragon.com site. The ad says “Kevin Smith reads it. Why don’t YOU?!”. Due to the nature of ‘net ads, you’ll probably have to reload the page several times to see it (or just look at our local copy above), but it’s kinda cool to see that Kevin’s become some popular in the comic biz that they use his name in other book’s ads!
  • Claire Forlani is mentioned in Premiere at “covering her face and laughing in embarrassment” when her previous Police Academy and Mallrats credits are mentioned. Alright, we can see being ashamed about that first one, but ‘Rats? Cummon!
  • Another Jay & Silent Bob sighting, folks! This one’s in DC’s Secret Origins. It’s an 80-page giant size book , The Young Justice Issue, which went on sale Wednesday, November 4. On page 48 in the bottom right-hand corner, a Jay and Silent Bob poster is on The Spoiler’s wall. Just a tidbit for the interested…
  • Finally today, a couple guys named Mike and Alex have stuck up a View Askew/Jay & Bob dedicated site chock, great for newcomes to the Askewniverse but also cool to read for us veterans, too. Check it out HERE.

State Of The Askew-nion…

  • Kevin made QUITE a post yesterday, answering a ton of questions and filling us in on a TON of upcoming projects, as well as some good news about what’s been going on in the Red Bank area. Let’s just let him do the talking here. As always, our comments will follow:
Quite a raging debate ya’ll got going on down below. I love it when folks stay on topic.

Anyhoo, here’s what’s going on in my (which always eventually becomes your) world:

We got the flick down to two hours and thirty one minutes. At the end of the month, Scott and I are heading to Skywalkerout near San Fran for a three day temp mix. After that (on Dec. 3 or 4), we’re test screening the picture in a TBD city.Should be a lot of laughs.

Due to a time constraint, the composer we were hoping to land won’t be doing the flick. I believe we’re out to other cats next week.

I’ve been asked to contribute a segment to Dimension’s sci-fi anthology flick, and I think I may do it. I’d be flankedby a piece by the ‘Trainspotting’ team, and a Phillip K. Dick piece, crafted by Gary Fleder. More on that as it develops.

Next week, Mosier and I head out to LA to meet some folks about this thing we’ve been working on for quite some time, that oughta make many frequenters of this site quite happy. While I’m out there, I’m sitting down to talk with Jerry Bruckheimer about this flick I’m re-writing for them. Should prove interesting.

I’ve been asked to be a juror on the Sundance jury. It’s quite flattering, and I have to mark the moment here: fiveyears ago from this coming fest, I was competing. Now, I’ll be judging. Who says life isn’t weird?

Met with Schreck and Joe (of Oni fame) and Chapman (of Graphiti fame) to discuss the coming year’s comics/merchandise.There’s some cool stuff we’re lining up, kids. Save your pennies!

The ‘Playboy’ piece was a great read, though I caught some heat for portions of it – not much heat, but heat just the same.

Finally saw ‘The Butcher Boy’, and man was it good.

I’ve heard most of Kim’s songs, and man are they great.

The new Stash won’t open until the first week of Jan. Ratface (who did ‘Amy’ and ‘Dogma’ with us) is designing theplace, and it’s going to be sweet – just loaded with stuff that’ll make the trip to Red Bank even more worth it.

We say goodbye to Broad Street with the office at month’s end, as we head into far bigger digs. When it’s up and running (along with the comic book store), we’ll probably have a gala opening. More on that in the coming weeks.

And finally – we welcomed a new addition to the View Askew family this afternoon. Walt and his wife Debby had a babygirl. Her name?

Caitlin.

The test screening should be a blast. The film’s incredible, so it will most certainly test WAY up there. And 2:30 isreally a sweet spot for running time, too, though we can’t imagine what was removed from the 3 plus hours the film thatwe saw a while back. Kevin had said that most if it was just dialog chops here and there, but that’s a pretty good chunk! Regardless, those of you who get lucky enough to see the flick early will enjoy it immensely. Shame about thecomposer, though, but since Kev never revealed who it was going to be, we better not say, either. Hopefully they’llfind a suitable replacement.

Congrats to Kev on all the upcoming projects. Needless to say, a sci-fi anthology flick with a segment by him is anexciting concept. And being a juror at Sundance? WAY COOL!

Congrats to Kim on her blossoming musical career…

And, finally, congrats to Walt and Debby…Hope that Caitlin’s not afraid of dogs!

  • Welcome to News Askew’s update on this lovely Friday The 13th…

Wow, we’ve been sloppy! Sometimes we mention these appearances so long ago and then forget them when the actually come around! Anyway, if you want all the details on where Kev’ll be this weekend, read the top story for today. Also, we’ve been working on some enhancements to the look of the site, and hopefully a few new features as well. Look for them soon. As always, if any bugs pop up on the site or you see any of the “old look” code laying around, let us know. But don’t freak out if the site looks different when you connect one day. We’ll fix all the problems if any pop up. And now, on with da news for Friday…
