• Corona’s excellent Coming Attractions website has posted a bit of a scoop on Ben’s status with the Preacher project, as revealed by Kevin in one of his recent appearances:

• Okay, we haven’t seen it for ourselves, but this show called “Station Zero” (which is a Beavis and Butthead type video show centered on Hip-Hop music on MTV, like they need MORE hip-hop on that channel, but we digress) played “Thank U” by Alanis (Once in a while, they’re forced to play an alternative or pop video by “The Man”. Funny!). While playing the video, The character Chino, who got knocked out, groggily moans “God?”. His partner Karaz replies “Naw, man…she’s just playing God in a movie. She’s a DOGMA”. And the plugs continue…
• The evil (since we know if we played, it would consume our lives) Hollywood Stock Exchange recently listed Kevin Smith as the “autuer to watch” recently. Glad to see he’s doing well on the cyber circuit, as always.
• Finally, there’s a DD review on today’s Tony’s Tips. Check it out HERE.

• Brian O’Halloran made a rare post over at the View Askew board yesterday, with details on how you can catch him performing his new play! Here’s Brian…

They say: The New Jersey Repertory Theater on Broadway in Long Branch, NJ is now accepting reservations for their next mainstage production “A World I Never Made” by Bryan Williams. This world premiere is directed by Arlene Schulman and stars Steve Carroll, Kendal Ridgeway and Brian O’Halloran. Previews begin April 13, 14. Opens April 16 and plays thru May 2. • We’re currently working on a story covering your upcoming chances to see “A Better Place” up on the big screen, the way it was MEANT to be seen, prior to it’s home video release…But in the meantime, be sure and check out the jam-packed OFFICIAL SITE with pics, interviews, the press packet, news, and lots, lots, more. Vincent and webmaster Jesse Ray Boehm have done a nice job.
• Canadians take heed: A chance to see Clerks, uncut, for free! It’s being shown on SHOWCASE this Thursday, April 1st, at 11 PM eastern time. Tune on in. You’re SUPPOSED to be there that day.
• A new favorite site of ours, upcomingmovies.com, has added a Coyote Ugly preview page. For the uninformed, Kevin’s writing on the script for Mike Bey as we speak (possibly finished, who knows?).
• And finally today, we thank The Den over at Daily Movies, who gave News Askew (and our trilogy of drinking games) a very kind writeup today:

They then go on to print the rules for the Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy games. By the way, for you newer arrivals to News Askew, these were the suckers that we created at the inception of this page (that grew into the monster that you see now!). ‘Til next we meet…

• Here’s something pretty cool that we hadn’t seen or read about anywhere…Of course, we ASSUMED it would come, but hadn’t heard a peep about til now: Kevin’s ENTIRE Daredevil run collected in one trade paperback! Our scooper peeked at a recent Production memo that was routed to certain people’s desks and spotted something called DAREDEVIL VISIONARIES: KEVIN SMITH added to the list. A closer look revealed that this 192-page trade paperback, set to go on sale in September, will collect DAREDEVIL (vol. 2) #1-8 into one handy volume! This is great news for collectors as well as those of you who missed a few issues or were just too damned lazy to buy them (what’s WRONG with you?). We’ll have more on this one as soon as we can confirm.

• Lots of nice stuff to talk about today, some small, some big, but all equally important. On our side, we’ve got a few cool things in the works, as well – First of all, the kind hosts extended the red carpet to us for the Rider University screening next Thursday night (April 8th), so we’re planning to attend. It’s been close to 2 years since we’ve seen Kevin speak, and Rider’s not TOO big of a drive for us, so plan on some first-hand coverage of that event (though we still welcome your own stories and pictures, of course). Also, we’re hearing the rumblings of what could be a major event here at News Askew, but aren’t going to say more until we get some details worked out. Stay tuned, you won’t be sorry! And now, the news:

• From Yahoo.com today comes a story about the shoe-ins and other likely contenders for competition in this May’s festival…And Dogma was pretty high up in that list…

Cannes takes place from May 12-23. Deadline for entries is April the 22nd. From what we’ve heard the View Askew gang plan to have as complete a version as possible submitted by that deadline. We’ll keep our eyes open.

• A scooper who attended the Kansas City Planet Comicon this past weekend met local Action Planet artists Phillip Hester and Ande Parks, who revealed that they’ll be working on a ‘Clerks’ one-shot! This is the first we’ve heard any rumblings of an outside source putting together a ‘Clerks’ comic. We’re working on verifying the story, but for now, here’s a scan of their drawing of Jay and Silent Bob, which was on the cover of the Comicon brochure. The book is due for release later this year. We’ll drudge up some more info on this book before that happens.

• Well, we’ve been holding onto this one incognito for a while, but it now looks to be officially announced: Synapse Filmswill be releasing Vincent Pereira’s “A Better Place” on DVD, laserdisc and possibly videocassette. Here’s the full press release:

Now that the cat’s out of the bag, we’ll do our best to keep you covered on what’s going on with the transfer, expected release dates, and, hopefully, an advanced look at the DVD itself! Stay tuned.

• Well, we’ve finally got some stories to load up an update today…After a slow few days, we’re sure that a screenful of text is a welcome change! Lots of good stuff here, so read on…We gotta run downstairs to watch the just-released Special Edition of The Evil Dead on DVD! Here ya go:

• Maggie Thompson of the Comics Buyers Guide gave the Daredevil collection of issues 1-3 a good review. This was in issue #1324. It’s great to see an established comics fan enjoying Kevin’s work as much as us twentysomething (and younger) fans are:
