- Star Wars as a RELIGION? Some folks think so. Even Kevin got a mention in a recent Village Voice piece on the topic:
Where Time hailed Star Wars as a “subliminal history of movies,” filmmaker (and Star Woid) Kevin Smith remembers encountering classical mythology in school and assuming that the Greeks had ripped off Lucas.

Pitch: Young adult Anakin Skywalker is infatuated with Queen Amidala. She just wants to be friends, and doesn’t really swing that way. Anakin threatens friendship with wisecracking Obi-Wan Kenobi, who makes wry, unnecessary comments about future films in series. Ends in threesome with handmaiden Amidala and Queen decoy.

Dogma: Latest From Cannes..
- Word has it that there’s going to be ANOTHER screening of the flick before the official date, private as well, on May the 17th. We also hear that yet ANOTHER one-sheet is hanging up in the Miramax office. This one is basically a montage of a bunch of stills from the film, mainly highlighting Matt and Ben, with DOGMA written across it in a “graphitti” style. Nothing special, but cool none the less. Under “Dogma,” it also said: “A Kevin Smith Flick”. This sounds similar to the Camp Chaos design we posted a couple months back, but we’re not sure if they’re one in the same. Buzz is strong at the festival, and lots of folks are anxiously awaiting their chance to see the movie!
Dogma NYC Screening Reviews…
- As we’d heard, the Dogma screening did in fact take place in New York City last night, and several News Askew scoopers managed to sneak through the door! Reactions were mixed, most folks highly enjoying the film, but still having some critiques as far as content, pacing, and effects. We’re offering all points of view — Meaning we’re not only printing positive stuff here, anything and everything that gets sent in will get its fair shake here. All of these reviews DO contain spoilers of some sort, though we’ll try and judge the degree of spoilage so you know what you’re getting into! Also take note, with many reviews sure to start pouring in, we’re using our very generic look for these reviews and sharing them with the Dogma: Rumor Control page. Here ya go:

By the way, we hear that a great deal of the general public was admitted to the screening, but that there WERE 2 rows roped off in the back of the show, possibly for potential distributors as we’d heard. Kevin, Scott, Harvey, and Vincent were also spotted in attendance (though Kev & Scott snuck in after the lights had gone down and stood in the back). More reviews and info as it comes in…
