Commentary…

May 12th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Whew! Whatta day…Nothing like showing up in front of the local theater at 12 PM assuming that tickets would go on sale at 3. After chatting with some fellow line members, we discovered that, yet again, our theater was totally screwing with us and not selling until 5:30!!! So, 5 and a half hours and a HUGE, much deserved dinner later, we’re back with tonight’s update. By the way, we’ll be seeing TPM at 10 AM next Wednesday. We decided the midnight show would be just a bit much.

Problems continue to plauge us with our web server. It seems that whenever we try and add something new to the page (to assist us with the millionth hit contest), the entire server can’t take the load…crash and burn! So, sorry again for all the downtime and messiness around here.

The good news is that, if you’re reading this, we’ve gotten around the problems for now. The bad news is that, until we figure out what’s causing all this to happen, problems may continue without warning. After the contest, all of this stuff should be over and calm down. In the meantime…

AFA: The Final Word From Us…

May 10th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • The AFA printouts have proven to be one of the most popular (or should we say infamous) topics of discussion around this site in a long, long time…The e-mail box has been filling up quickly with tons of letters that folks are sending to the AFA and such, and many folks asking for their e-mail address. We’ve been told that it’s buddy@afa.net, but we’re not up for sponsoring yet another write-in campaign, especially against these folks, since we don’t think anything we say will change any minds. Just keep in mind that if you DO write them, make it a coherent, non-obscene, and intelligent letter stating your opinions. From what we’ve been seeing, everyone’s been doing an excellent job informing the AFA of their points of view, but the plain truth is, these guys are using Dogma as a major fund-raiser for them, and won’t change their tune no matter how much sense you make. Regardless, we’ve said our peace on the AFA situation.

Also, we’d like to give a shout out to all our peeps over at TNT Roughcut for printing our story on the AFA’s attack on Dogma. Thanks to ChrisKfor the info. You can read the story, which is basically a reprint of the May 9th story below, HERE.

Dogma Screening In NYC Tomorrow!

May 10th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Paul Shin & Jay Brennan

  • There will be yet another Dogma screening TOMORROW night in New York City. Again, this is a PRIVATE screening and closed to the general public. Only those with tickets will be admitted, but in case there’s a few extra seats, you may wanna stop by the Manhattan Loews on 3rd ave. and 11th. We’ve got a few scoopers attending the show, but could always use a few more! Again, we don’t think there’s any more seats available, but be sure to thank us if you somehow make it in. And give Dogma some good test scores, dammit! It’s totally deserving.

Kevin On Clerks DVD, Dogma, Series, More..

May 10th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Kevin Smith

  • Kevin made a long-awaited stop at the board last night with one of his summary posts that was basically full of tons of good news, a key point being the fact that he confirms that the Clerks DVD will indeed have the “controversial” commentary. Looks like, whether we influenced it or not with our e-mails, we’ve won the battle. Huzzah! Here’s the full post, containing that info and lots more:
WOULD YOU LIGHT MY CANDLE?

Anyone seen ‘rent’? I saw it a few months ago, and I was listening to the soundtrack today (no day but today), and I have a thought or two…

Those are some of the most damn simplistic lyrics I’ve ever heard – and that’s not a good thing. Some of the songs make me cringe, the lyrics are so grade school.

I thought the first act dragged to the point of me taking note of the theatre’s architecture. By the end of the second act, I was sort of onboard, but I still couldn’t get over how lyrically remedial the songs were (“…see what becomes of it, instead of my old shit.”). I don’t know – maybe I’m getting old. Maybe I’ve just got zero sympathy for a bunch of slackers laying around, whining about being junkies and such. There were times I wanted to get up and yell “Get a job, you fucks!”

Anyhoo, my apologies go out to anybody over at KSU who was put out by my cancelation. Rest assured, if it wasn’t hectic and weird here, I’d have gone. There are just ‘Dogma’ and animated series things going on that bend my mind right about now. Without going into detail at present, let me say only this to those of you with creative aspirations akin to mine…

99.4% of the time, the suits don’t understand what you’re doing, and never will until someone else (or a lot of someone elses) tells them it’s good, funny, etc. You will deal with idiots most days, folks. The people in charge are mostly scared shitless of losing their jobs. Periodically, you’ll make it through the morass of nonesuch, and some of your ‘vision’ (for lack of a better artsy fartsy term) will reach the masses, but it’s a very big uphill battle to get to that zenith. Bring a canteen.

In the way of good news: I’ve got some proofs of the ‘Clerks’ DVD menus in my hand, and they list the commentary.

The script for the aforementioned animated series is down to a lean, mean 45 or so pages, and it’s pretty funny stuff. Can’t wait for ya’ll to see it. We had a reading of the longer draft last week, during which I heard Brian and Jeff as Dante and Randal for the first time in over five years. It was really cool. They both did stellar jobs. Mewes, as usual, was great too.

We head to Cannes in a little over a week (we’re going at toward the end of the fest). The screening’s on the 21st. For those of you toying with the notion of making the trip, let me save you a few sheckles: the screenings are closed. You can’t get in. There’s no one scalping tix out front. Just sit tight, and we’ll have our own screening toward the end of the summer/beginning of the fall. Promise.

I saw a pair of flicks that I got into over the weekend: ‘Go’ and ‘Election’ (maybe it’s the one word title thing). I know some of you are saying “Election?!? He hates Reese!” True as that may be, you gotta give credit where credit’s due: she’s good in the flick. Broderick’s the man, though, and hats off to helmer Alexander Payne (who also did the entertaining ‘Citizen Ruth’ two years back) for breathing visual life into what seems like a great script. Both he and Liman (the fellow who directed ‘Go’) are gifted, gifted visual storytellers who apparently know how to do justice to decent scripts (gentlemen – I’ll be expecting my checks in the mail). If you get a chance, check out both flicks.

Talk to Lee a few weeks ago, who – as most of you know by now – is doing Cameron Crowe’s next flick (which is still untitled). He’s having a blast, getting ready to play the lead singer in the fictional band in the flick. He said he’s been rehearsing with Peter Frampton for a few weeks to get ready for the part, but doesn’t think he’ll be singing his own songs. I expect great things from this flick. I can’t think of a better pairing: Lee and Crowe. Renews a brother’s faith in Hollywood.

And lastly: having been married for two weeks now, I highly recommend it.

To someone else, though. You can’t have my spouse. I’m a generous guy, but you gotta draw the line somewhere.

Needless to say, we’re happy to hear that work on the Clerks Animated Series, which is definitely Kev’s second priority after Dogma, is going well. We’re highly anticipating the first look at some of the animation and artwork from the series, as well as hearing all those familiar voices in one room again. As for Cannes…We’ll have some scoopers in the area, hopefully, to get you all the latest as it happens. Especially if Kevin brings his WebTV and it works from France!

Commentary…

May 10th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Hiya folks. Apologies in advance for the downtime, some of it was our fault, some our provider’s fault, but a lot of it stemmed from our security preparations for the millionth hit contest (see below). The prize is just too cool for us to mess it up, so we want to make sure that everyone has an honest, fair shot at it.

E-Mail also went down for almost a day, which explains the delay with some of these scoops as well as getting back to you. There’s a ton of stuff to talk about today, naturally, and we’ll be gone tomorrow in line waiting for Star Wars tickets, so we’re going to get to as much as we can here.

Unfortunately, there will be no unveiling of the millionth hit contest today, due to a few more minor problems we want to work out. We just want to make sure the bugs are worked out before we let the information out. Hopefully we’ll have that for you tomorrow. In the meantime, there’s PLENTY to talk about, including ANOTHER contest, so read on:

Rushmore (Dogma cinematographer Robert D. Yeoman) – 6/29

Though we warn you: The Faculty is crap! Can’t go wrong with the other 3 though…

Clerks DVD Price & Info

May 9th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad, Matt Brown, & Ford Prefect

  • Probably the bulk of our mail lately has been folks writing in about the Clerks DVD fiasco. Seems that the major retail outlets online still list Kevin’s commentary as being part of the package, which is a good sign, but with no definite confirmation from Buena Vista yet, we’re still a little worried. Also, Amazon indeed DID raise their price, but Ken Crane’s did NOT, so if you wanna get a bargain, surf on over to Ken Crane’s and order this DVD for $20.99! I thought it through, still hoping the commentary WILL be included (otherwise I don’t really want the thing), but if it is, this is a fantastic deal. We’ve also added the DVD back to our ever-growing list of VA countdowns.

DareDevil #7 Covers, Sketches…

May 9th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brian Wolski

  • Surprisingly, it seems like DareDevil #7 has been announced for a May 19th arrival date! That, coincidentally, puts the series back on track, and arrives the same day as the Bluntman & Chronic Oni Double, as well as a little movie that some of us have been looking forward to. Anyway, we’re not sure if this date can be hit or not, but the issue sure is shaping up to be another fantastic one. Joe Quesada’s posted a sketch of the new cover is http://www.marvel.com/news/news4.html (which contains a spoiler for those of you that didn’t read issue 6, and if you didn’t, what are you waiting for?), as well as some rough sketches of a few other panels.

Private West Coast Dogma Screening…

May 9th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Emmiline

  • Sounds like some lucky fans out on the west coast were handed some passes for a private Dogma screening this Wednesday, May 12th, out in L.A! We’re sure a few of those folks have gotta be NA readers, so we’ll have all the info on how the flick is shaping up, we’re sure. We’ve yet to see the flick ourselves since the rough cut, so we’re curious to hear about the digital effects, sound effects, and of course Howard Shore’s score. Ah, screw it: Anyone got an extra couple tix to L.A? 🙂 These lucky folks will be the last to see the film before its official world debut at Cannes later this month.
